Unity of Spirit By Fr. Mark Haydu, LC
© 2020 Liguori Publications
The whole group of believers was gathered with Mary, Jesus’ Mother, in the upper room. They were waiting for power to be given to them from on high, as Jesus had promised. They were like children with their mother, keeping the family together. Being the one on earth closest to Jesus, Mary was the disciples’ physical and spiritual connection to him, and they listened to her.
Consider what a colorful group the first Christians were. Each believer was different, each unique, each had his or her own background. Yet when the Spirit called them together with Mary, there was a beautiful harmony and complementarity. Opposite of the spirit of the evil one, which causes division and exaggerates individuality, the Spirit of God celebrates legitimate diversity while creating from these different parts one body and one spirit in Christ.
If you have ever been in Rome for an audience with the pope on Wednesday morning or at a large papal Mass like World Youth Day, you have experienced how the Spirit brings unity amid diversity. These gatherings comprise thousands of people of many different nationalities and languages, but all are united in prayer and a common spirit. This is the miracle brought about by the Spirit.
It’s not easy to maintain this unity. It requires we each listen to and strive for the unity Jesus asks of us. Selfish
individualism is a constant tendency, but it’s much easier to resist it when we are united by Mary and the Church to Christ’s Spirit. +
A Word from Pope Francis
Receiving the joy of the Holy Spirit is a grace. Moreover, it is the only force that enables us to preach the Gospel and to confess our faith
in the Lord. Faith means bearing witness to the joy that the Lord gives to us.
A joy such as this cannot be the result of our own efforts.
In a Message to the Pontifical Mission Societies, May 2020
Ponder and Pray How can I encourage greater unity within my family
and parish?
Is there a way I can be of more support for those around me?
When the Spirit called the first Christians together, there was a beautiful harmony.
"Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God.
Do not disdain the entreaties of those who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger,
O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen" (an excerpt from Pope Francis' prayer during the Pandemic)

At Home With Faith: Family activities & practices during the Crisis
In Sharing the Holy Spirit
Our response to a disaster follows a pattern. At first, shock and a little denial: “What’s the big deal? Isn’t it just like the flu?” Then, when we realize the threat, we all rally together with common purpose. But after that, we enter into a difficult phase. The threat isn’t going away, we’re sick of dealing with it, and we aren’t sure how to go forward. Believe it or not, that’s pretty much how the disciples feel in this Sunday’s Gospel. As Christians, they aren’t welcome in the synagogues or with the Romans. Jesus appears and gives them the Holy Spirit. He doesn’t give them solutions to their problems. What he does give them is the Spirit to equip them for mission. Our world needs the Holy Spirit, especially during these difficult times. Jesus gives us His peace and the Holy Spirit. He does this to strengthen us so we can share the gift of that Spirit with others. https://marriagefamilylife.seattlearchdiocese.org/athomewithfaith

Farewell for Fr. Anh Tran
Fr Anh Tran has scheduled drive-by opportunities for parishioners to say goodbye: June 22-23 at St Martin and June 24-26 at All Saints. Each will take place 10:00 -12:00 noon. More information will be posted on our parish Facebook page and webpage.
Priesthood ordination for Fr. Thomas Tran
This ordination will be live-streamed at 10:00, June 6th. Join us online on Saturday, just prior to the 10am livestream on vimeo or Facebook.
As Deacon Thomas Tran is called from the midst of the people your participation in the livestream is more important than ever. Although the congregation will not be present in the cathedral, the livestream is a unique occasion for us to be closer to Thomas and the elements of the Ordination Rite as we all gather together in a different communal way - up close and personal - to serve witness to this ceremony that carries profound meaning for the life of the Church.
Archdiocese of Seattle Prayer for Vocations
God our Father, You call each of us to use our gifts in the Body of Christ
We ask that You inspire those whom you call to priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life to courageously follow Your will.
Send workers into Your great harvest so that the Gospel is preached, the poor are served with love, the suffering are comforted, and Your people are strengthened by the sacraments. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Resumption of Public Masses: We are committed to the health and safety of parishioners and the greater community. Our parish has received reopening guidelines that include a number of things that need to be in place before the public celebration of Mass.
Once we have informed the Archbishop that required safety measures are in place, the Archbishop will then approve the resumption of public celebrations of the Eucharist in the parish according to the new protocols. Due to the measures and milestones we need to achieve, our parish will not be ready for public masses this weekend. We will keep you informed as the day approaches when the Archbishop has given us the go ahead and what protocols parishioners must follow.
