    Parish Financial Report

We are pleased to once again make available the annual parish financial report. The Archdiocesan fiscal year reporting is July 1st through June 30th, we will therefore aim to have all future reports available to the parish by August 31st.

To no surprise, the fiscal 2019/2020 proved to be a challenging year with the last one third of the year being plagued with the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, our collections experienced a decline this year, but with attention to expense reductions by Fr. Wayne Wilkerson and careful budgeting by all staff, the year finished positively. The parish recognized a surplus which was utilized to pay down on the bank note from our past land acquisitions, capital improvements and the construction of a new school. Additionally, the parish council initiated a program at the outset of the pandemic involving personal pleas to our top 300 giving parishioners. This "ask" proved to be a great success. We heartily thank those very generous parishioners, and ALL who supported St. Michael Parish throughout the year.

In fiscal 2019/2020 St. Michael the Archangel Parish received total revenues of approximately 3.8 million versus outlays (expenses} of 3.2 million. As mentioned, this surplus allowed us to reduce the outstanding bank note to $625,000.00. The parish currently maintains approximately $2 million in cash reserves. Additionally, we continue to hold the $1 million seller-financed note for land acquisitions on Del Monte Street purchases made years ago. It is Fr. Wayne's desire and ours to do away with all outstanding campaign, land acquisition and capital improvement debt in this fiscal year. With your generosity, this desire can become a reality.

The St. Michael the Archangel School fared well despite very challenging obstacles through the pandemic. We thank Dr. Kathleen Cox, her staff, and teachers for their hard work in overcoming the challenges and delivering excellent education to our children. The St. Michael School Gala had a most successful fundraising event in February 2020. With the COVID-19 pandemic just around the corner, these additional funds were gratefully received and deeply appreciated. We look forward to school resuming on September 1st of this year.

Indeed, the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church prays for a safe return to all community activities. In the meantime, the clergy and staff are here to minister to and serve the needs of our parishioners virtually, and when possible, in person. We appreciate your continued generous support, and we hope to fill the Church beyond 25% soon. May God Bless You, One and All! St. Michael the Archangel, Pray for Us!

REFLECTING ON T H E G O S P E LPeter wants rules about how much to forgive. Jesus replies that forgiveness is the rule. Given the teaching right before this one, how-ever, it seems that Jesus is telling us to forgive some-one who repents. He also wants us to pray in order to know how to respond to a persistent sinner. The parable doesn’t quite fit Peter’s question. It doesn’t describe forgiving someone many times but forgiving them on a large scale. The debt of the first servant is so great that he couldn’t have ever repaid it. The second servant owes an amount that could be repaid. The situation of the first servant changed but not the servant himself. His heart was unmoved by hisexperience of having his debt forgiven. Because he didn’t share the forgive-ness he received, he lost it. The parable warns us that God’s gift of forgiveness must be shared if we are to keep it.What might have prompted Peter’s question? What does the parable teach you about yourself?Source: oursundayreadings.wordpress.com

The Story of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross: September 14Early in the 4th century, Saint Helena, mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine, went to Jerusalem in search of the holy places of Christ’s life. She razed the 2nd-century Temple of Aphrodite, which tradition held was built over the Savior’s tomb, and her son built the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher on that spot. During the excavation, workers found 3 crosses. The cross immediately became an object of veneration.Source: franciscanmedia.org
