FORGIVENESS. Near ly ten years before, a son and father had parted ways when the business they shared went bankrupt. The son blamed the father. They did not speak to each other again. Then the father became seriously ill. The mother called the son
and told him he had better come soon. The son walked sheepishly into the hospital room. The father motioned his son to him and whispered: “Did you ever think you could do anything that would keep me from loving you?” Resentment and anger are foul things, the first reading from Sirach tells us. Remember the last things. Stop hating. Live by the commandments. As St. Paul writes to the Romans, we are to live for the Lord and die for the Lord. Jesus’ parable in today’s Gospel reminds us of God’s compassion. The immense sin of humanity has been forgiven and stricken from the record. We are to forgive others in the same way. .

The Vigil Mass on Saturday is offered for Marge Gagnon., at the request of Marion & Carl Rosenthal. The Mass at 8:00 a.m. is offered as a Missa Pro Populo (Mass for the People). The
Mass at 10:30 a.m. is offered in loving memory of her husband, Joe Schelble, on the Anniversary of his death, at the request of Rose Schelble. The Sunday Evening Mass a 5:00 p.m. is offered for the repose of the soul of Daniel “Danny” Jacob Daley.
We will now live stream the Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass using BOXCAST and FACEBOOK Live Links provided on our parish web site and in the Weekend Reminder. Note: BOXCAST has the best streaming!
IMPORTANT REFINEMENTS TO OUR CURRENT COVID PROTECTION PRACTICES: PLEASE READ!! If you have to touch a door handle going into the church, please instead use the newly installed handicapped button (Thank you Women’s Club!!), and hit the button with your elbow. The door will open without you touching a thing! (Same thing on the way out!)
There is always a door open between the Narthex and the Nave. Please use that door so you don’t touch anything.
You don’t have to genuflect, but you do have to show respect, and bowing shows that respect. Many people use the end of the pew to remain stable while genuflecting. All those hands mean the potential for contaminated surfaces. It is safer to bow, from a COVID perspective. Similarly, when going from sitting to standing during the Mass, most people reach out to the pew in front of them, potentially contaminating the pew back, or becoming contaminated themselves. If you can stand without touching the pew in front of you, this is safer for you. Do not touch the pew on either side of you.
In the pews available for worship, please do not sit on the blue ‘X’ adjacent to the main aisle. The ‘X’ keeps people waiting in line for Communion at a six foot distance from parishioners sitting in the pews.
When coming into Mass, please sit as far forward as safe distancing allows. This means fewer rows for the Clean Team to sanitize. If you are sitting by yourself at the back of the church, you are causing more work. Please move forward.
If you must touch something that may be contaminated e.g. the door handle leaving the bathroom, use a paper towel over your hand to provide a barrier against contamination (others to you, or you to them). Another cheap device to keep in your car, is the old fashioned fold-over sandwich bags (not zip lock) that are under a penny apiece at our local discount stores. These are great when you have to pump gas or use a PIN pad.
Many people think wearing gloves protects them from all kinds of contamination. It is better to think of gloves as a second skin. If your gloves touch a contaminated surface, and then you rub your eye, nose or mouth, you have now passed the germ onto yourself. Gloves only protect so far.
In general, try to observe your own behavior. Many people are not aware of how often they touch their face. Try to be aware, and be aware of the behavior of loved ones. Lots of people wash their hands and then unknowingly participate in habits that put them at risk. Be healthy!
Flowers for the Altar Flowers on the altar this weekend were provided by Randy & Stella Kasten in celebration of their 23rd Wedding Anniversary; and, by the Wade Family in loving memory of sister, Susan Ann Wade.
Last Weekend’s Flowers were provided by the Hrica Family in loving memory of William P. Hrica, Jr. and Debra Anne Kubik on their Birthdays in Heaven; and, by Jim & Darcy Assemany and Ange Ploussard in loving memory of Marion Ploussard.
A collection basket will be on the offertory table before and after Mass. Please use this basket to
donate to the Parish. Thank you for your support.
WILL YOU CONSIDER ONLINE GIVING?
Not surprisingly, our weekly collections have been impacted by this crisis. If you are receiving Father Dennis' Constant Contact emails, you know the details). Donating Online allows the church to
operate with a more consistent revenue stream, and saves time and money for those involved in processing bank deposits. It will save you time too! You can individually donate to "Special Envelope" offerings as well. Go to ollchapin.org/online-giving and click on "Choose Here to Give" image.
If you are a registered member of the Parish and are providing your Offertory on-line and no longer need your Envelope Sets, PLEASE call the Parish Office so we can stop sending you Envelopes and the incurred printing and mailing costs. MANY THANKS!

Unlocking Relativism
Relativism has become so pervasive in our society that we encounter it at every turn. It is now such the norm that those in the secular world cannot recognize how relativism blocks the path to truth. How do we navigate a conversation about truth without running into the wall of relativism? Discussing moral issues with family and friends can be a challenge in a
culture that strongly promotes the idea that there is no objective truth. Speaking from a wealth of personal experience, renowned author and theologian Dr. Edward Sri provides 5 “keys” to enable Christians to oppose with logic and love what Pope Benedict XVI called the “dictatorship of relativism.” He also clarifies the proper understanding of what it means to judge, and the importance of making good judgments.

These parishioners are celebrating Birthdays this week. If you see them, don’t forget to extend your Best Wishes

Urgent Appeal from Catholic Charities of the Midlands: The homeless men and men's prison ministry needs men's pants, khakis, jeans, for 32/29, 32/30, 32/32, 32/30 34/30, 34/32, 34/34. If you
can help us with a donation, please put it in the pull out drawer of the Vollkommer Bell Tower on the right hand side and indi-cate the size on a piece of masking tape affixed to the donation. Much appreciated for all of those that can help!
The Senior Monthly Luncheon will take place on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, September 15, 2020 after the 12 noon Mass. If you would like to
attend, please call Coordinator, Suzanne Gooch at 803.298.5038. Safe distancing and guidelines will be in place. The theme will be “A New Way of Life this Fall” and the lunch will be an individually boxed one.
At the conclusion of the Recessional Hymn, we will kneel and pray ONE HAIL MARY, asking for Mary's intercession for an increase of Vocations to the Religious Life and to the Priesthood. Additionally, we will pray to St. Michael the Archangel asking for his protection. As our
Parish is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and as the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholics, it is most appropriate for us to pause before we leave Church on Sunday (or a Daily Mass) to ask her intercession for an increase of Vocations to the Religious Life and to the Priesthood. Further, given the pandemic it is likewise appropriate that we ask for protection from our God-given defender, St. Michael the Archangel.
Rite of Christian Initiation
for Adults. All Are Welcome
What if................ I am unbaptized, but want to grow spiritually in my life? ~ I have a different faith background, but want to learn what Catholics believe and why? ~ I am a baptized Catholic, but never made my First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation?
We would love to assist you in your faith journey through an exciting and deeply enriching process in the Catholic Church, called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.).
For further information please contact Deacon Jim Atkinson: (704) 246-0034
Our policy regarding face masks: It strongly recommend-ed that all parishioners use face masks for your protection and for the protection of others when safe distancing cannot
be observed. That said, masks are not mandatory at OLL for the simple reason of enforcement. It is not fair to require volunteer greeters and ushers to enforce a mandatory use policy. Volunteers need not be in the position of having to "police" others or to turn some one away because they are not wearing a mask. Masks are strongly suggested if safe distancing cannot be observed while at Mass.
This must be said: we can not guarantee you will not contract the Covid-19 virus by attending Pub-lic Mass. We do believe our precautions are suffi-cient to minimize the risk. If you have any doubts, please, stay at home and join us on Sundays for the live streamed 9AM Mass.
Please take a moment to thank our volunteer Greeters, Ushers and Cleaners when you see them! Without their support we could not hold public Masses. Please con-tinue to BE PATIENT with one another during this time. THANK YOU for following all instructions.
