WELCOME

Welcome to Coventry Cathedral! We’re delighted that you’re worshipping with us today. In

this leaflet you’ll find more about what is happening in and around the Cathedral in the next

week or so.

We’re joined at this morning’s Cathedral Eucharist by a group from the friends of the

Frauenkirche, Dresden, who will be taking part in the Litany of Reconciliation and as

Delegates. The sermon will take the form of a conversation between the Dean and Pfarrerin

Ulrike Birkner-Kettenacker from the ‘Maria am Wasser’ Evangelical Lutheran Church,

concluding with a time of informal prayer.

Sunday 20th November

10.30am The Cathedral Eucharist

4.00pm Choral Evensong

6.30pm OPEN Table

Open Table Soup

OPEN Table is looking for volunteers to help make a simple soup for the supper church on the

20th November and 11th December. If you would like to volunteer for one of these days,

please contact Haley Jones at [email protected] or speak to Canon

Kathryn. We like to prepare soup for a full table of 32, and we invite teams of people to help!

Cathedral Community Prayer Focus for November

The Dean's suggested prayer points for November are:

Thanksgiving for the Cathedral's Reconciliation ministry and the work of our six Canons for

Reconciliation over the past 40 years, and

Prayer for a positive response to the Dean’s ten-minute challenge for each Cathedral

community member to set aside ten minutes a day for prayer - whatever form that prayer

might take.

The Dean, Canons and assisting Readers this week

Canon Sarah is Canon in Residence this week. The Reader assisting at the Eucharist this

morning is Donald Parr.

Canon David is celebrating and preaching at St Paul Foleshill this morning.

This evening’s service at 6.30pm will be City Praise and Prayer at The Welcome Centre

Parkside CV1 2HG.

Cathedral Team Supporting St Oswald’s Tile Hill

Fridays 7pm to 10pm

There are still some Friday evenings when more volunteers are needed to help with putting

up beds, setting tables, making drinks, washing up, and, most importantly, eating with and

chatting to guests and maybe playing cards or dominoes with them. If you can commit to any

evenings please sign up on the Community table or contact me.

Cathedral Stewardship

Please collect your letter!

If you are a member of the Cathedral’s Stewardship Scheme and have not received a letter

from the newly formed Stewardship Group (which comprises John Copas, Dave Goodall,

Deryck Horton and myself) please look for it on the Community Table; there are many

letters which have not yet been collected. If you are also able to assist by helping to deliver

to any members of the Community who are currently unwell or absent for other reasons

please do so.

If you are unable to find your own letter please speak to one of us and we shall correct the

oversight as quickly as possible. Many Thanks David East, Senior Church Warden

Help Needed

Is there anyone who would be able to steward Evensong on Wednesdays when the boys

sing? This would be from 5-6pm during term time. If you are interested please contact

Barbara Mobbs 024 7659 8106.

Bread-making for Sunday Eucharist

It would be really nice if we could have a few more bread-makers. If you would like to help

with this important part of our Eucharist it’s easy! JPlease ring 07887 991778 or speak to me.

Many thanks. Eileen Third

The Coventry Telegraph

Is there anybody who takes the Coventry Telegraph every day and would be willing to take

over the job of keeping these scrapbooks? It's not a difficult task - just cutting out items that

mention the Cathedral and sticking them in. I've done this for several years but no longer

want to buy the newspaper. Sue Parker 024 7644 9195 or [email protected].

The Rev Canon Chris Burch

Canon Chris Burch, formerly Precentor of the Cathedral, died suddenly on Sunday 6th

November. We give thanks for his life and ministry and pray especially for his wife Roz and

their children Martin and Rebecca.

Cathedral Prayer Circle

In an emergency, a group of us are ready to pray for you and those for whom you are

concerned. Contact Meg Bowen on 01926 856928 – brief details would guide our prayers

for God’s grace and healing.

CATHEDRAL COMMUNITY NOTICES

Prayer for Christian Service in Coventry

The Chapel of Unity community is setting up regular monthly prayer sessions to support

Christian social service across Coventry. These will be held in the Chapel of Unity from

4pm to 5pm on the first Monday of each month (excepting Bank Holidays).

To build up a picture of what is happening citywide, so that we can be united in prayer

support, each month we are inviting a representative from a city church or Christian

organisation to tell us about their involvement in serving the needs of the city (about 20

minutes) before we spend the rest of the hour praying for those projects.

First meeting: Monday December 5th;

Theme: Good Neighbours, a new project of support for older people, a partnership

between Hope Coventry, Together for Change and Age UK (Speaker: Jess Day-Pollard,

Project Manager);

Contact: John Lloyd (Chapel of Unity Joint Council co-chair) at [email protected].

Canon Lisle Sharp

It was with great sadness we received the news that Lisle died on 5th November after a

short illness. He had been a Reader for 56 years. For most of those years he came to

assist us at the Sunday Eucharist twice a year, the last occasion only a few weeks ago. In

addition to his commitments to his parish at Alveston, he was for many years heavily

involved in the administration required for Diocesan Readers, on successive Reader

committees and as West Midlands Coordinator for the Readers Course. While awaiting

the appointment of a new Warden he and I shared that role for a year. He became

Honorary Lay Canon in 2001 in recognition of his Reader ministry. May he rest in peace

and rise in glory.

Canon Margaret Sedgwick
