CHRIST’S CHURCH CATHEDRAL

A Place of Community, Compassion, and Hope

This two-part bulletin insert is the fourth in our Fall 2017 -

Winter 2018 series about who we are, and what we do.

MORE ABOUT OUR

WORSHIP TEAMS

The Welcome Speaker Prior to the conclusion of the organ prelude, an assigned lay

person arrives at the front of the nave to a microphone

equipped podium and issues a general welcome to the congre-

gation, a special welcome to newcomers and visitors, and any

special announcements.

Responsibilities of the Welcome Speaker:

• Working with the sound system technician, performs a

micro phone sound check 15 minutes or more prior to

the service.

• Arrives at the lectern 5 minutes before the start time of

the service.

• Speaks clearly, slowly and directly into the mic, and projecting to the back of the narthex.

• Introduces self

• Welcomes worshippers and refers them to print materi al for the service

• Introduces the presiding clergy, preacher, and music

director by name.

• Is aware of other activities in the building and any situation that would interfere with the worship service,

and makes appropriate announcement

• Ensures that special needs such as church school location and hearing device availability are communicated clearly

• Issues invitation to all to receive communion and

welcome to all to attend coffee and hospitality events

following the service.

Example of a typical Welcome

Good Morning. My name is __________. Welcome to

worship at Christ’s Church Cathedral. A special wel-

come if you are joining us for the first time.

The Very Reverend Dr. Peter Wall will preside and

preach this morning. Our choir is under the direction of

our Director of Music Michael Bloss.

The service is printed in its entirety in the bulletin except

for the hymns which can be found in the blue hymn book.

All are invited to receive communion - there will be vari-

ous locations for communion at the altar and in the nave,

and you may go to the station of your choice.

You will have met some of our greeters when you came

in – you may ask them for assistance for washrooms,

child care, hymn books, extra bulletins, hearing devices,

and more. Washrooms are located in the hall adjacent to

the church – to your right as you leave the church at the

back – greeters will assist you.

This church is equipped with a very good sound system

but if you have trouble hearing, you need to help yourself

to hear well. Note the speakers on the pillars in the nave

– sitting near them will help you to hear well.

It is more difficult to hear at the back of the church or off

to the sides of the church along the walls, so feel free to

move to hear.

Lastly, please turn off your cell phones and pagers.

And do join us for refreshments, conversation and fel-

lowship at the back of the nave at the end of the service.

Let us take a few quiet moments to gather our thoughts –

the service will begin shortly. Thank you

Skills and Experience of a Welcome Speaker:

• Good communication skills

• Regular attendance at services

• Familiar with the flow of the worship service

• Well acquainted with building and facilities

BISHOPSGATE –

AN EXAMPLE OF GOOD STEWARDSHIP

Because of the vision and generosity of one parishion-

er, we have a beautiful garden in front of the Cathedral

providing much needed green space and beauty for our

neighbourhood. Because of the dedication and hard

work of an indefatigable team of gardeners, we main-

tain this wonderful space for all to enjoy.

Created in cooperation with the Diocese of Niagara as

a gift to the local community, Bishopsgate is meant to

be a shared place. The benches are an invitation to sit

and enjoy the beauty around you – the water feature,

the magnificent gardens in bloom, the architecture of

the building, and the neighbourhood itself.

Bishopsgate also hosts a variety of outreach and social

events. During fair weather months, Makers’ Market

vendors use the space to display their wares and during

Art Crawls, the space just hums with people, music,

and sounds of the city. Occasionally, we hold an out-

door church service in Bishopsgate. Whether you’re

looking for a moment of peace and tranquility or a con-

venient meeting spot, Bishopsgate exists for your en-

joyment.”

Stewardship of our Ministries

Your gifts of time, talent, and treasure make possible

vital resources and services to be provided through our

Outreach ministries and by our clergy, staff and volun-

teers.

Your Stewardship is remarkably generous – thousands

of volunteer hours, your extraordinary talents, and

abundant giving to our offerings budget – and we thank

you sincerely!
