Servicing ease is designed into the 992C:• Swing out doors on both sides of theengine compartment provide easy access toengine oil dipstick and filler spout, rear axlefiller spout, fuel filters, engine oil filters,fuel priming pump, alternátor, air cleaners,disconnect switch and air conditioner com-pressor. Batteries are accessible throughhinged doors in the bumper.

• Hinged doors in the platform provideaccess to hydraulic tank and filters, imple-ment filters, steering filter and pilot controlfilter to the right of the cab; transmissiondipstick, filler spout and filter to the rear of

the cab and fuel tank dipstick and fillerspout to the left of the cab.

Stations oné and two hávethree fittings each and are located on dif-ferential lever in front of each front tire.Station three is located to the right of thearticulation joint and has nine fittings. Loader tower and box-section main frame resist twisting and bend-ing on rough ground. Two hardened-steel pins couple the front andrear frames. Both pins ride in double-tapered roller bearings. Bucketlift arms pins and hydraulic cylinder mounting pins are supported onboth ends by steel plates in the loader tower, rather than on a singleend as with cantilever mounting.

Pilot-operated control valvesprovide control . . . plus ease ofoperation. Hydraulic controllevers are in a console to theoperátor's right. When the leversare engaged, pilot hydraulicpressure actuates the main con-trol valve to meter oil flow tothe corresponding lift oř tilt cyl-inders, while the remote pilotvalve maintains a constant pres-sure. No reaction delay, and liftarms and bucket can be inchedand feathered with accuracy.

Caterpillar steel shoe BeadlessTires . . . an optional arrange-ment that can provide increasedtire life, reduced total tire costsand greater machine productivecapabilities in abrasive applica-tions and load-and-carry. Steelshoes help protéct against sud-den tire failure from rock cutsand phort tread life from abra-sion. They bolt directly to a re-placeable mounting belt. Ovalair chamber carcass is helicallywound with tough steel cablefor strength and protection.

Four-wheel oil disc brakes háve4748 sq. in/30 635 cm2 of brak-ing surface per wheel. Each brakehas nine discs and ten platescooled by oil for long life. Theyare completely sealed and re-quire no adjustment.
