ROLL 2026LET ME TELLYOU BABY ITSCALLED ROCK’N’ ROLL!CLIFFRICHARD &THE DRIFTERS

Another UK ‘first’ from Rollercoaster ...the first ever ten-inch vinyl LP by CliffRichard and The Drifters. The LP containsrecordings which have not been heardsince they were first broadcast on theBBC Light Programme’s Saturday Clubshow in 1958. In these recordings wehear Cliff and his Drifters at their rockin’best. Their music was wild, sexy, anddemonstrated that at last Britishrock’n’rollers could compete with theAmerican originals. Cliff had it all,slicked-back hair, sideburns, pink jacket… and a great voice. These earlyrecordings were often hurriedly made to astrict studio budget or even broadcast livefrom Manchester or Birmingham whileCliff and his group were on tour, but theyremain superb examples of spontaneityand youthful enthusiasm . Fortunately,Saturday Club employed the talents ofengineer and producer Bernie Andrews, which guaranteed superb qualityrecordings and also ensured that most ofthese broadcasts were preserved ratherthan being discarded, as was then BBCpolicy.Dynamite!; Move It; High Class Baby;Don’t Bug Me Baby; Apron Strings; NeverMind; Mean Streak; Rip It Up; ReadyTeddy; Guitar Boogie (The Drifters)

A CD version of the album will followlater this year and will contain twenty-fivetracks, all from the same era. ROLL 2027THAT MAKES ITSOUND SOMUCH BETTERBUDDYHOLLY & THEJACK HANSENCOMBO

In the autumn of 1958, Buddy Holly andMaria Elena Santiago were married in thegroom's home town of Lubbock, Texas.Afterwards they travelled to New York, the bride's home, where they settled intoa one-bedroom apartment at 11 FifthAvenue, just north of Washington Square.Holly wouldn't be there long – he waskilled in a plane crash while on theWinter Dance Party tour in February1959 – but long enough to commit aseries of songs to a tape machine that hehad bought from his producer, NormanPetty. These solo recordings often referredto as ‘The Apartment Tapes’ demonstratenot just his skill as a singer and guitaristbut the seriousness of his approach to hiscraft.A few months after his death, inpreparation for a posthumous single andLP, six of these solo recordings wereoverdubbed by Coral Records houseproducer Jack Hansen, in New York, using seasoned session musicians.Remastered and remixed versions by ourgenius re-mixer Chris Hopkins, createdfrom the original master tapes. Terry Wayne might be described asBritain first Rockabilly Cat; in the 1950she heard – and recorded – songs like¨Teenage Boogie¨ and ¨She's Mine¨; songsthat became popular in the UK rockabillyrevival in the 1970s when most of usheard them for the first time. A&R men,not Terry, decided on the arrangementsfor these songs and probably lost Terrythe opportunity of becoming a major starin the 50s. They just didn't get it, andthere are few examples of great Britishrockers, like some Tommy Steele andBilly Fury recordings, that really 'cut it'.Fortunately, Terry made a few demo andbroadcast recordings with his band, TheDukes, that came pretty close to The RealTerry Wayne. So here are those 50srecordings plus a few more recent tracksand the best of his UK 45s. As you willhear, he really is - The Terrific TerryWayne. RCCD 3055ROGER BUNNPIECE OFMIND

A great 'lost' album from the 1960s -we've heard that claim before - but thistime it really was an essential andgroundbreaking album that got 'lost'.Through replacing the Beatles at the StarClub, Hamburg, and a request from PaulMcCartney, Roger recorded some demosat the Beatles office in London in 1968and somehow the tapes were sent toPhilips Records in Amsterdam. Dutchproducer Frans Peters teamed Roger upwith arranger Ruud Bos and some fineclassical and jazz musicians to record inHolland. All the album songs - includingmusic and lyrics by Roger and JohnMackie - were very original and far aheadof anything that was happening in the UKand USA at the time. Remember that in

those prehistoric pre-Euromusic daysthere was little co-operation betweencountries for projects of this sort. This LPwas one of a kind and that's probably thereason the album got lost. Deals werestruck for it to be released in Germanyand the UK - but both were on labels thatgave Piece of Mind minimal or nopromotion. We have added seven demosand studio recordings to the set, amongthem Roger's predictive vision of "In TheFuture" and the cynical "You and I" whichtell of a world of never ending wars andhome computers. And "Life Is A Circus", aclassic song of its time - recorded - butnever released - by David Bowie. Rogertells his own story in the 36-page bookletwhich includes tales of the musicians heworked with and for in his strugglesagainst the machinations of the powerfulbig labels and reward organisations of therecord industry - both then and now.Piece of Mind is a difficult album to putin a musical bag, with its fusions of jazz, blues and rock - and it is easily seen whyRoger's music influences others ratherthan allows itself to be influenced byanyone. But if you liked the 'Top Gear'sounds of the late 60s and had thoughtsof travelling East to Afghanistan alongwith Roger on the Hippy Trail, you'll likeit. And as you take the Coltrane/McCoyTyneresque "Road To The Sun" you'llwonder why this album never got to beone of John Peel's fave raves....Road To The Sun; Jac Mool; Fantasy InFiction; Jac Mool (slight return); CrystalTunnel, Three White Horses; Catatonia;Suffering Wheel; Guido The Magician;Powis Square Child; Old Maid Prudence;Humble Chortle; Jason's Ennui; 1100 East +1070 North; Previously unreleased: AWeekend In Mandraxia; Life is a Circus;Falling Ships; In the Future; Lin-da’sJukebox; You and I; In love with you babe;Up for GrabsBarcode 5 012814 030550

Monday; Honky Tonk; Blue Suede Shoes;Shake, Rattle & Roll; Bo Diddley; Brown-EyedHandsome ManNearly all of the twenty-four studio tracks onthis CD were sourced from the originalquarter-inch tape masters. Because of theage of these tapes and the fact they were notalways stored in optimum conditions, wehave done our best to restore the sound andtechnical quality to what it was originally asmuch as possible. In doing so and in orderto present some fragmented recordings foryour listening enjoyment, we have alsocreated complete versions of two trackswhere they did not exist originally. It isunfortunate that Decca Records did notretain all the out-takes of their sessions in1956 as these would be fascinating to heartoday (they were taped over or removedfrom the original reels so that the tape couldbe re-used) Some idea of the quantity ofthese can be guessed from the take numbers– although 'take 76' in the case of ModernDon Juan can hardly be taken seriously, especially as the 'slate' does not include themaster number as most others do. It isfrustrating to hear a take number announcedand realise that the actual take has beenremoved. You may also hear the remains ofprevious recordings which were recordedover but not completely erased - examplesof these can be heard very faintly at theends of a couple of tracks. We are fortunateindeed that a couple of out-takes didsurvive, probably by accident, and that afterall this time Buddy's fans are able to hearthem in such great quality. Please bear inmind that most of the nineteen tracks onCD2 were not recorded in professionalstudios and thus some defects in the soundquality will remain. We have done our bestto minimise any faults on these historicrecordings. They are, simply, the best andmost exciting early recordings of BuddyHolly, featuring for the most part, Buddy onvocals and guitar and Jerry Allison on drums– forget the White Stripes, this is rock'n'roll'sfinest duo! Please specify the packaging you would likewhen ordering: RCCD 3056 (Rolapak) orRCCD 3056J (Jewel case)Barcode 5 012814 030567

charts. His popularity was also significant inthe U.K. and his lingering influence there issuch that his praises have been sung by thelikes of Paul McCartney (who covered"Fabulous," one of Gracie's earlyrecordings), George Harrison, Van Morrisonand Graham Nash. This album is a realrarity - a live recording of a rock'n'roll showtaped in 1957 during Charlie's tour of theUK. The sound quality from a single michung over the stage by the stage managerand recorded onto his own tape-recorder, issurprisingly good (despite what RichieUnterberger, who fails to appreciate thehistoric significance and the state of the artat that time) says elsewhere! Charlie'senthusiasm, his vocal and guitar technique -and ability to deal with a rowdy audience ofteddy boys and adoring girl fans - isimpressive.Ko ko mo; Long tall Sally; Trying; Tutti Fruitti;Flip flop and fly; Sway; Hound dog; Guitarboogie; Butterfly; Ninety nine ways; I love youso much it hurts; Fabulous; Bonus tracks (notlive): Ling ting tong; DreamBarcode 5 012814 060243
