Since 1946There has been one landmark product, event or sponsorship after another at Karrimor. Over 60 years of outstanding products are what inspires us to bring you even higher standards and better products. Bragging and resting on our laurels is not really the British way, but heritage and historical facts are…

1946Charles and Mary Parsons, along with Grace Davies founded the Karrimor company in Lancashire and started producing cycle bags.

1948Karrimor introduce weathertite® products, way ahead of their time.

1957First climbing sacs produced in conjunction with the climbers of the day Jimmy Rostron and Dave Thomas.

1959Karrimor starts work with Joe Brown and introduces the Joe Brown Rucsac.

1964Karrimor starts a decade of domination of the UK market with the Alpiniste sac born of a partnership with Don Whillans.

1966Karrimor introduce pack frames and the Karrimat®.

1972Karrimor appoints Dougal Haston as technical advisor and the ‘Haston Alpiniste’ in purple becomes the most famous alpine sac ever.

1975Chris Bonnington's Everest South West Face expedition is successful, fully equipped with Karrimor products. Junko Tabei of Japan becomes the first woman to climb Everest using a Karrimor pack frame sac.

1978Peter Habeler achieves the first ascent of Everest without oxygen using Karrimor equipment. ks100e introduced, considered to be the worlds first waterproof texturised fabric.

1980

ksb’s introduced.The first outdoor footwear made from lightweight fabric, instead of heavier leather, and outdoor footwear revolution begins.1983Introduction of the size adjustable back system for sacs make load carrying comfortable for everyone.

1986Karrimor introduces a range of polar garments and accessories.

1991Karrimor receives a British Design award in the course of duty.

1997Introduction of volume adjuster fit kits to the ksb footwear allow further refinement of footwear fit for better comfort and performance.

2000ADD introduced to ksb footwear to (again) improve the fit, function and performance of ksb’s.

2001ksb’s diversify into sandals and approach footwear.

2007Karrimor develop new X-Lite products; lighter weight yet without sacrificing performance or durability. Karrimor introduces Fine Moulding a technology that increases durability of fabrics by up to 50% versus standard walking boot fabrics without sacrificing breathability.

X-LITE from Karrimor is an award winning design philsophy. X-Lite products from Karrimor are lightweight without sacrificing durability or function. X-Lite offers improved performance with less weight so you can go higher, further, faster, more efficiently. X-Lite product features:

• durable supportive Vibram outsoles (developed specifically with Karrimor for the X-Lite programme). Durable grip at fraction of the weight.

• lightweight frameflex® technologies ensure support and rigidity of the product are not compromised. Support and flex in the right areas.

• new support footbed features highly wicking, anti-bacterial, memory foam (so they mould precisely to fit), cushioning pad and heel support cradle. Aid comfort and stability.

• memory foam collars and tongue Layer of memory foam - memory foam (develop for the space programme by NASA) moulds to the shape of your foot, creating more even pressure (reducing the likelihood of blistering). Helps to enhance overall comfort both initially on both initial wear and over long periods of wear.

fit kit footbed standard footbedA Karrimor innovation in it’s newest innovation. The fit-kit footbed has a removable lower section, in place it reduces the volume of the last to customise to a lower volume fit. Without the lower section in place the fit will be the full higher volume last that the ksb is famous for.The upper section has a highly wicking top sheet and moulded heel support.Removable and machine washable.

frameflex mid-sole technologies provide 3 dimensional support, rigidity and flex throughout the natural cycle of movement in the walking or running gait. Frameflex are specific to every size in the range and for both mens and ladies lasts, why compromise? Different Frameflex technologies provide different levels of function and are utilised differently depending on the design and end use of the product.

how much do we sweat?All humans sweat. A lot. Especially athletes. Humans simply walking produce 0.25 to 0.5 liters of sweat per hour, and up to 1.5 liters during strenuous activity. All this sweat has to move through your clothing system, your gloves, and your footwear.

forerunners: PU membranesMost common waterproof/breathable membranes do not literally "breathe". Instead they move sweat in two slow steps by a process of diffusion through a Polyurethane (PU) layer. Because PU absorbs and retains sweat, the inside of the fabric becomes wet. Then, body heat begins to push that dampness through to the outside of the fabric where it can finally evaporate - a very inefficient process.

First introduced in 1948 and undergoes continual improvement in line with technological advancements to provide durable waterproofness and breathability. Footwear weathertite is a laminate used in a bootie construction and offers an excellent overall performance.

• Uppers made from high quality waterproof and stain resistant suedes, leathers, nubucks, mesh and Cordura® materials offering durable, high quality, protective, supportive, easy-care and comfortable designs.

• The ksb classic collection is built around the unique ksb last, this is a higher volume last, more suitable for gradual activities particularly those will added loads (eg walking and trekking).

• Added fit and comfort features of the lateral tongue post, asymmetrical collar and internal pockets and pads can be found internally to aid further the fit and support of these styles.

• Certain styles are lined with eVent® fabrics which are durably waterproof and significantly more breathable than competitor fabrics.
