La liquirizia o Glycyrrhiza è un genere di pianta perenne a fioritura estiva che appartiene alla famiglia delle leguminose. Cresce in un areale che si estende lungo la cosiddetta “cintura della liquirizia” collocata intorno ai 40° di latittudine nord, lungo una linea che si estende dalla penisola iberica al subcontinente indiano, sino alla Cina. Ne esistono 18 specie diverse, la più pregiata delle quali la G. Glabra typica, è coltivata nel bacino del Mediterraneo ed in particolare nelle pianure che si affacciano al mare. Sin dal XVII secolo la liquirizia calabrese, in particolare, è stata esportata nei più grandi mercati europei e nordamericani. Resistendo ad una assai spietata concorrenza industriale internazionale è divenuta nei secoli un simbolo di eccellenza italiana. Liquorice or Glycyrrhiza is a genus of perennial plant, flowering in summer, that belongs to the family of pulses. It grows in a region that extends along the so called “Liquorice Belt” lo-cated at a latitude of around 40° North and along a line extending from the Iberian Peninsula to the Indian sub-continent, and even further towards China. Today 18 different species of Liquorice are known to exist, the most highly prized of which being G. Glabra typica which is cultivated widely across the Mediterranean basin and particularly upon the plains along the coastline. As far back as the seventeenth century Calabrese liquorice in particular was exported to all the great markets across Europe and North America. Resisting very strong and often more industrialised competition it has become and has remained, through the cen-turies, a symbol of Italian excellence. The Reglisse capsule collection is born of a philosophy based upon the captivating local and, indeed, global history of the Liquorice plant that has profoundly influenced the great and historic cultures of the past including those of the Greco-Roman, Indian and Chinese worlds. The use of ‘GOTS’ certified fibres and materials are the starting point from which a variety and typology of clothing has been created that continues to catch the eye of those in the world of fashion. Colour dyeing gives additional prestige to all the items of clothing realised. An innovative technique allows us to offer a vast range of colours derived entirely from purely vegetable resources with no recourse, for entirely ethical reasons, to those colour dyes derived from animal products.
