SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ATS SERIES WITH A GLYCOL % DIFERENT TO 30%
A partir de estos datos de partida se procederá del siguiente modo;
Pseleccion= Pdisipacion/ C1.
Find below defined the selection criteria based on the graphs for the different models of the ATS series when operating conditions are: room temperature 35ºC and 40ºC, liquid thermal difference (inlet-outlet) 10ºC and different percentage of glycol.
The basis of this criterion consists of applying several coefficients to adapt the data to the new operating conditions.
Datos de partida
- Capacity dissipated in kW.- Inlet temperature (ºC).- Outlet temperature (ºC).- Room temperature (ºC).- % Glycol in the mixture.
From the input data, we proceed as follows:
1) Calculate average temperature: Average temperature = (Inlet temperature + Outlet temperature)/2.
2) Determine the percentage of glycol coolant, according to ANNEX I.
3) Apply the C1 coefficient corresponding to the power to be dissi-pated to obtain the power of selection.
Pselection= Pdissipation/ C1.
Glicol 15% 20% 30% 40% 50%
C1 (Pot/ Cap) 1,02 1,01 1 0,99 0,97
Caudal (m3/h) = (Pdisip x C2 x 0,860) / ΔT.
4) Select the chart based on the room temperature 35 ° C or 40 ° C, and enter with the average Temperature. If obtained point does not match with any model, you shall choose the superior one.
CALCULATION OF FLOWRATES FOR THE HEAT TRANSFER FLUIDOnce the model is selected, we should determine the flow rates of the heat transfer fluid. To do this, we will follow the following procedure:
Flow (m3/h) = (Pdissip x C2 x 0,860) / ΔT.
Glicol 15% 20% 30% 40% 50%
C2 (Caudal/ Flow) 1,03 1,05 1,08 1,12 0,97
P dissip is the dissipation power in kWC2, is the flow correction factor due to the glycol % in the fluid.ΔT, is difference in the temperature between the fluid inlet and outlet.
- 11 -Aerotermos solares / Heat dissipation units
Let us suppose that we need a heat dissipation unit for an installa-tion located in Caceres (Spain) with a dissipation power of 28 kW.
For calculations purposes, room temperature is assumed to be 40ºC. It is estimated that the inlet glycoled water temperature will be of 95ºC and 85ºC for outlet of the heat dissipation unit.
We proceed to apply the calculation procedure described above.
1) Calculate the average temperature= (inlet temperature + outlet temperature) /2.
Average T= (95+85)/2= 90ºC.
2) Determine the percentage of glycol in the coolant agent, accor-ding to table of minimum temperatures per province capital ac-cording to ANNEX I. We may check in the table for Caceres that minimum temperature is -18ºC. We have to subtract 5ºC to that value. Thus the value to consider for Caceres is -23ºC.
Within the table of temperature and glycol percentage, we may verify that for a temperature of -23ºC the correspondent wei-ght percent of Glycol is 40%.

Pseleccion = Pdisipar / C1= 28 /0.99= 28,28kW.
4) En la gráfica Serie ATS. - Tª Amb. 40ºC. Propilenglicol 40%.
Glicol 15% 20% 30% 40% 50%
C1 (Pot/ Cap) 1,02 1,01 1 0,99 0,97
3) We use C1 coefficient correspondent to the dissipation power to obtain the selection power.
In the table below, we may see that C1 coefficient takes a value of 0,99 when glycol percentage is 40%.
Pseletion = Pdissipation / C1= 28 /0.99= 28,28kW.
4) In graph ATS Series. - Room Temp 40ºC. Propilenglycol 40%. Li-quid side temperature difference 10ºC, we enter in with the cal-culated average temperature 90ºC and with the selection power 28,28 kW.
The intersection between the two lines is located between ATS-241 y ATS-391. Of those two models the superior one is selected, in this case ATS-391.

CALCULO CAUDAL FLUIDOPara ello emplearemos la expresión; Caudal (m3/h) = (Pdisip x C2 x 0,860) / ΔT.Se puede comprobar en la tabla que el coeficiente C2, toma el valor de 1,12 cuando el porcentaje del glicol es del 40%.Caudal(m3/h) = (Pdisip x C2 x 0,860)/ ΔT= (28 x 1,12 x 0,860)/(95-86)= 2,70 m3/h.
CALCULATION OF FLOWRATES FOR THE HEAT TRANSFER FLUIDFor doing so we use the equation; Flow (m3/h) = (Pdissip x C2 x 0,860) / ΔT.In the table below we see that C2 coefficient has the value 1,12 when glycol percentage is del 40%.Flow (m3/h) = (Pdissip x C2 x 0,860) / ΔT= (28 x 1,12 x 0,860) / (95-86)= 2,70 m3/h.

Pseleccion= Pdisipar/C1= 198/0,99= 200Kw.
Let us suppose that we need a heat dissipation unit for an installa-tion located in Caceres (Spain) with a dissipation power of 198 kW.
For calculations purposes, room temperature is assumed to be 40ºC. It is estimated that the inlet glycoled water temperature will be of 95ºC and 85ºC for outlet of the heat dissipation unit.
We proceed to apply the calculation procedure described above.
1) Calculate the average temperature = (inlet temperature + outlet temperature)/2.
Average T= (95+85)/2= 90ºC.
2) Weight percent of Glycol is 40%. Obtained in the ATS SERIES example.
3) We use C1 coefficient correspondent to the dissipation power to obtain the selection power.
In the table below, we may see that C1 coefficient takes a value of 0,99 when glycol percentage is 40%.
Pseletion = Pdissipation/C1= 198 /0.99= 200kW.
4) En la gráfica Serie AMS - Tª Amb. 40ºC. Propilenglicol 30%.
4) In graph AMS Series - Room Temp 40ºC. Propilenglycol 40%. Liquid side temperature difference 10ºC, we enter in with the calculated average temperature 90ºC and with the selection power 200 kW.
The intersection between the two lines, and following the same selection criteria as in ATS series, corresponds with the model AMS-2171. Therefore, AMS-2171 model is selected.

CALCULO CAUDAL FLUIDOPara ello emplearemos la expresión;
Caudal(m3/h)= (Pdisip x C2 x 0,860)/ΔT.
Caudal(m3/h) = (Pdisip x C2 x 0,860)/ΔT= (198 x 1,12 x 0,860)/(95-85)= 2,12 m3/h.
CALCULATION OF FLOWRATES FOR THE HEAT TRANSFER FLUIDFor doing so we use the equation;
Flow (m3/h) = (Pdissip x C2 x 0,860)/ΔT.
In the table below we see that C2 coefficient has the value 1,08 when glycol percentage is del 30%.
Flow (m3/h) = (Pdissip x C2 x 0,860)/ΔT= (198 x 1,12 x 0,860) / (95-86)= 2,12 m3/h.

NOTA DE APLICACIÓN / APPLICATION NOTE
SELECCIÓN DE POTENCIA DE DISIPACIÓN
Según el C.T.E. en su Apartado Sección HE 4 Contribución
solar mínima de agua caliente sanitaria.
De modo general:
“3.2.2.3 Sobrecalentamientos

In general:
3.2.2.3 overheating
3.2.2.3.1 Protection against overheating
It must be provided to the solar facilities manual or
automatic control to avoid overheating of the system
that can damage equipment and materials or penalize the
quality of energy supply. In case of automated devices, will
be avoided specially antifreeze fluid losses, filling with a
direct connection to the network and control overheating
by maxing mains water.
In particular:
“Special care will be taken with seasonal use facilities
where the period of non-use measures will be taken to
avoid overheating by non-use of the facility.”
To fulfill these requirements of the CTE, the solar air
heater prevents overheating of the system, dissipating
excess of heat produced at certain times of year. Such
facilities include hotels, residences, indoor swimming
pools, and in short, any facility that use and / or location
overheating may occur that can cause damage to materials
and equipment.

(4.1)
(4.2)
Donde;
