You can power your keyboard with 6 D batteries or standard AC power (with anoptional AC adaptor).Installing the batteriesThis keyboard can be powered by 6 D size (SUM-1/R20P) dry cell batteries. Makesure that the MODE selector is set to the OFF posit ion when , insta ll ing batter ies.

\1. Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the u~it .2. load new bat teries as illust rared, taking care that the plus [+] and minus [-]poles are facing in the correct directions.

I Precautions IIncorrectly using batter ies can cause them to leak or burst , and may damage yourunit. Note the following precautions: Be sure that the plus [+] and minus [-] poles are facing in the correct directions. Do not mix batte ry types. Do not mix new batte ries with old ones. Never leave dead batteries in the battery compartment. Remove batteries when not us ing the unit for extended per iods . Never try to recharge the batteries that are specified for the power supply of this unit. Do not expose batteries to direct heat, let them become shorted or try to take them apart .(If a battery leaks, clean out the battery compartment of the unit immediately, taking careto avoid let ting the battery f luid come into direct contact with your skin. )

Choosing a Power Supply

Using AC powerAn AC adaptor (AD-5, optional) is required when using household current. Use onlygenuine CASIO adaptor wi th the same vol tage rat ing (100, ,117,.220 or 240V)asthe power supply in your area to prevent damage to internal components. Be sureto turn the power of the unit off before you connect the adaptor to the unit. Plug theAC adaptor into the AC out let and the cord into the unit . This will automatically cutoff the battery power supply.

Important The adaptor may become warm when it is being used. This is normal and does notindicate any problem. Be sure to unplug the adaptor from the power source when you are not using the unit. Whenever connecting or disconnect ing the adaptor, be sure that the power of the unit i sswitched off. Never use a power supply that does not match that speci fied for the unit . Doing so candamage the adaptor or your unit.Auto power off functionPower is automatically cut off approximately 6 minutes after the last operat ion ofthe uni t. Power supply can be restored by switch ing power OFF and then ON again.To cancel the auto power off functionTo cancel the auto power off funct ion, turn the power swi tch ON while hold ing downthe TONE button. The unit will remain ON until you turn OFF manually.

Getting started1. Set the MODE selector to NORMAL. The power indicator lights.2. Adjust the volume level using the MAIN volume slider.3. Select one of the 100 preset tones (see "Preset Tones", page 11).4. Now, start playing.Be sure to switch power off when you are not using the unit.

About touch responseThis unit features "touch response" function which controls the volume of the toneproduced according to the keyboard pressure.Using TOUCH RESPONSE buttonYou can switch touch response function on and off using TOUCHRESPONSE button. When TOUCH RESPONSE isswitched off,tones are produced at a f ixed volume regardless of the keyboardpressure.

General OperationsTuningThe TUNE [+]/[-] buttons let you tune the key- rboard to anyone of 64 settings, at increments of100 cents*. To return the keyboard to its defaulttuning (440 Hz), press the TUNE l+ l and [-] but-tons at the same time.*100 cents = Half note

Key transposeUse the TRANSPOSE buttons to change the key of the keyboard in half-noteincrements to anyone of 12 settings (C, C#, D, D#, E, F, P,G, G#, A, B~,B). Presseither TRANSPOSE button ([+] or [ -]) once, and a value that indicates the currentkey set ting appears on the display for about two seconds. Use the TRANSPOSEbuttons to increase ([+]) or decrease ([-]) the value. The following shows themeanings of the values that appear on the display.

General OperationsNotes Holding down eithe r of the key transpose buttons changes the displayed value a t highspeed.

Whenever youswitch keyboard power on, the key transpose value is automatically set toits default 06 (C).

After changing the key transpose value, you can return it to the default 06 (C) by pressingthe TRANSPOSE l+ l and [-] buttons at the same time.

You can also change the key of the keyboard for playback by the Song Bank (page 23). Though you can change the key of the keyboard to play chords that you record in thechord memory (page 27) , note that the transpose setting isnot stored in memory with thechords. This means that ifyou want to play back the chords in the same key, you must usethe TRANSPOSE buttons to set the key before starting playback.

You cannot use Transpose with built-in tone No.29 Percussion.

CounterThe counter lets you view the beat count whi le a rhythm, auto-accompaniment , orSong Bank song is playing.How to use the counterWhile a rhythm (page 13), auto-accompaniment (page 16), or Song Bank song(page 23) is playing (or about to play using synchro start), press the COUNTERbutton.Press the COUNTER button.

The two digits to the r ight show tone, rhythm, or Song Bank tune selections. You can also use the counter when playing back from chord memory.

Selecting a preset toneYou can choose from 100 preset tones. The name of each tone is labeled with atwo-digit number on the keyboard's top panel (100 TONES list) . "PIANO 1" tone (No.OO)is selected automatically whenever you switch the power of thekeyboard ON.

To select a tone, follow the steps below.

1. Set the MODE selector to the NORMAL posi- t : : ion. . FN OED.=.2. Press the TONE button. I ~ ~ , . . r l . . ~ I I ~ O l60.~

You can also use [+]and [-] to change the tonenumber . Press ing the l+ l button increases thedi splayed tone number by one, and pressing [-]decreases it by one.

4. To change the tone, repeat step 3 above.

NoteYou can also change the selected tone, by press ing only one RHYTHMITONE/SONGSELECT button. Note the following:

Preset TonesWhile the MODE selector i s set to NORMAL, the keyboard is normal ly capable of 8 -note polyphony. Some tones , however , produce 16-note polyphony. Note that when youare playing along with a rhythm pattern, Auto-Accompaniment, or the Song Bank,available polyphony is reduced. Selecting an auto-rhythmThe pitch of some tones (such as No.27 TREE CHIME) may be unclear .

Keyboard split tonesSome of the preset tones split the keyboard and assign two or more sounds. Withsuch a preset tone, the sound produced depends on what posit ion of the keyboardyou play. For example, BASS/PIANO 1 (tone 70) puts BASS on the left and PIANO1 on the right the keyboard.< Example>BASS/PIANO 1 (No.70)

You can choose from 100 auto-rhythms. The name of each rhythm is labeled witha two-digit number on the keyboard's top panel (100 RHYTHMS l ist) .o Rhythm (No.OO)is selected automatically whenever you switch the power of the keyboardON.

The keyboard is normally capable of a maximum of 6-note polyphony when theMODE selector is set to NORMAL and an auto-rhythm is playing. Some tonesproduce a maximum 12-note polyphony under these conditions.

P lay ing an au to - rhy thmTo play an auto-rhythm, follow the steps below.1. After selecting an auto-rhythm, press START/STOP button to start the rhythm.

2. Adjust the tempo using the TEMPO controlbuttons. Each press of D speeds up thetempo, while pressing v slows it down. Tempo of the auto-rhythm can be adjusted be-tween 40 and 256 beats per minute.

Press ing both TEMPO control buttons atthe sametime sets the tempo to 120 beats per minute.

3. You can adjust the volume of the rhythm byusing the ACCOMP VOLUME slider.

4. Press the START/STOP button again to stopauto-rhythm play.

You can add some variation to the auto-rhythm play by press ing the INTROIENDINGand SYNCHROIFILL-IN buttons. See pages 21 and 22 of this manual for detai ls .

Song BankNoteso When you press the PLAYIPAUSE button after select ing a song, the tone, tempo, andrhythm are automatically set to the preset defaults for the song. You can manually changethe tempo setting while playback is paused, but you cannot change the other set tings.

o For songs 30 through 39, the tempo may change during some songs because of thecharacteristics of the piece.

When the MODE selector i s set to NORMAL, the ent ire keyboard can be used for playof the melody. Wi th most of the songs from 00 through 29, the keyboard has l-note polyphony (2-notepolyphony for some of the songs). With most of the songs from 30 through 39, thekeyboard has 4-note polyphony (8-note polyphony for some of the songs).

REWIND < )Holding the REWIND button while Song Bank playback is in progress or pausedmoves back through the song at high speed. The REWIND operation continuesuntil you release the REWIND button. While the REWIND operation isbeing performed, you can hear a "beat" count. A buzzersounds when you reach the beginning of the song. Note that you cannot UseREWIND while Song Bank playback is s topped. When playing back a Song Bank song with the tempo set more than 27 steps below thesong's initial default tempo setting, performing the REWIND operation may result in thetempo sett ing to become somewhat fas ter when you return to normal playback (from theREWIND operation).

The Chord Memory makes it possible to store up to 128 chords of an accompani-ment pattern into memory. You can then play along with your own accompanimentas you play it back.Chord Memory contentsThe Chord Memory records the accompaniment chord progression, in addi tion toAuto-Accompaniment (page 16) INTRO, FILL-IN, and ENDING patterns.The contents of the chord memory are retained until you make a new recording,even when you switch power off (as long as power is being suppl ied by bat teries orAC power). 4. Press the RECORD button. A metronome sounds and the, tempo indicatorflashes to indicate the tempo.

The metronome sound continues unt il you startto play.

Aunque se puede cambiar la clave del teclado para ejecutar los acordes que graba en lamemoria de acordes, t enga en cuenta que el aj uste de transposici6n de clave no quedaa lmacenado en la memoria j unto con los acordes. Esto significa que si desea volver areproducir los acordes en la misma clave, debera volver a usar los botones TRANSPOSEpara ajustar la clave antes de comenzar la ejecuci6n. Para seleccionar cualquiera de losmetodos dedigitacion de acordes (CASIO CHORD 0FINGERED), puede usar elselectorMODE.Acerca de las canciones 30 a 35... Es tas canciones son conjuntos de dos par tes. Se puede desactivar cualquiera de las par tesy tocar en conjunto con la res tante. Acerca de las canciones 36 a 39... Es tas canciones son solos de piano. Sepueden desactivar sus par tes y realizar practicas decada mano separadamente. Cuando la par te ACCOMP se encuentra desactivada, todas las teclas del teclado son parala ejecucion melodica (no hay tec1ado de acompanamiento), aun cuando ajusta el selectorMODE a CASIO CHORD 0FINGERED.Notas. La operacion REBOBINADOcontinua hasta que suelta el baton REWIND. Mientras se realiza la operacion de REBOBINADO, puede escuchar una cuenta de"compases" , Un zumbador suena cuando se alcanza el comienzo de una cancion. Tenga en cuenta que no puede usar el REBOBINADO mientras la reproduccion de unacancion del banco de canciones se encuentra parada. Cuando sereproduce una cancion del banco de canciones con el ajuste del tempo a mas de27 intervalos debajo del ajuste por omision del tempo inicial de la cancion, la realizacionde la operacion REWIND puede resultar en que el ajuste del tempo seconvierta algo masrapido cuando retoma a la ejecucion normal (desde la operacion REWIND).56

La memoria de acordes hace posible el almacenamiento de hasta 128 acordes deun patron de acompaiiamiento en la memoria.Luego las puede reproducir juntocon su propio acompaiiamiento a medida que toea.Contenidos de la memoria de acordesLa memoria de acorbes graba la proqreslon de acordes de acompaiiamiento,adernas de los patrones INTRO, FILL-IN Y ENDING del acompaiiamiento autorna-t ico (paqlna 46).Los contenidos de la memoria de acordes quedan retenidos hasta que real iza unanueva qrabacion, aun cuando desactiva la alimentacion (en tanto se suministrealimentacion mediante pilas 0CA de linea). Tenga en cuenta que los patrones de ritmos, ajustes de sonidos y ajustes de tempo noquedan grabados en la memoria de acordes .Notas La memoria de acordes puede almacenar hasta 128 acordes. Las siguientes condicionesreducen el mimero de acordes que pueden almacenarse.

4. Presione el boton RECORD. Suena un metronome y el indicador de tempodestella para indicar el tempo.

El metronome continua sonando hasta que co-mienza a ejecutar.

En la memoria nada quedara grabado, hasta quecomience a tocar a lgo sobre el teclado de acom-pafiamiento.

5. Presione el boton INTRO/ENDING para unpatron de lntroduccion. Si no desea incluir una introduccion, puede omi-tir este paso.

6. Ejecute un acorde para lnlclar la qrabaclonjunto con la reproduccion del acompafiamien-to automatico, Ejecute un acorde ya sea tocando con los dedos 0usando la funcion de acordes CASIO, de acuerdocon su ajuste en el paso 1, e n la pagina 57.

7. Despues de ejecutar el ultimo acorde, presio-ne el boton INTRO/ENDING para inser tar unpatron de finalizaclon y finalizar el acornpafia-miento automatlco, Finalizando con un patronde acompafiamiento, ocasionara que la repro-duccion se pare automatlcarnente cuando sealcanza el patron de finalizacion. Si no desea incluir una finali zacion , en lugar deINTROIENDING, presione el boton RECORDo START/STOP. La finalizacion con una opera-cion del boton RECORD 0 START/STOP,ocasionara que la reproduccion de los contenidosde la memoria de acordes se repi ta hasta que seaparada.

Acerca del almacenamiento de la memoria de acordes ...Los contenidos de la memoria de acordes quedan retenidos aun si el interruptor demodo se ajustaa OFF, en tanto el teclado se encuentre energizado. Esto significaque si el teclado no esta conectadoa una fuente de allrnentaclon de CA y las pilasdel teclado estan agotadas, se perderan los contenidos de la memoria. Debido aesto, recomendamos ut ilizar el adaptador de CA para mantener el teclado eonec-tado a una fuente de al lrnentaclon de CA, siempre que se tengan datos importan-tes almacenados en la memoria de acordes.
