Laura WenzelSenior Director, Maternal/Child Health at Staten Island University Hospital

For over 21 years, Laura has been an integral part of the SIUH family and since 2007; she has been a major driving-force behind the Joseph Maffeo Children’s Programs at SIUH. As Manager of the Pediatrics/Neonatal ICU, Laura provides exceptional comfort and care to the tiniest of patients.

The Staten Island Angel Award goes to Laura for her outstand-ing work and commitment to our community. She has partici-pated in many philanthropic activities, aside from The Joseph Maffeo foundation, which include SIUH Service Auxiliary, Circle of Hope Cancer foundation, March of Dimes; Local Staten Island Chapter, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and Michaels Cause.

The Joseph Maffeo Foundation is proud and extremely honored to once again join the elite medical team and staff at SIUH – Northwell Health. This relationship will help provide the necessary facilities and environment enabling the NICU staff to provide the outstanding care and support they strive to give.

Parents eagerly anticipate bringing their newborn home, so it is frightening if their child is admitted into the neonatal intensive care unit. Under the guidance of Dr. Philip Roth, Chairman of Pediatrics, Dr. Jonathan Blau, Director of Neonatology and Laura Wenzel, Sr. Director of Maternal & Child Health, the Joseph Maffeo Foundation will strive to enhance the capability and care, necessary to minimize these fears, by focusing our efforts on the construction of this brand new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
