how do i apply? You can apply online at commsec.com.au

how long will it take for my accounts to be opened?

Your accounts will be opened within three business days from when we receive your signed application.

do i need to provide my tax File number (tFn)?

No, you don’t. However, if you do not provide it, we are required by law to deduct tax from any interest above a certain threshold earned on your CommSec Cash Management account/s.

can i just open a commsec investment account?

The CommSec Investment Account, Cash Account and Trading Account are all opened together with one single application. Once these are opened you can apply for additional Cash or Investment Accounts.

how many accounts can i open?

You can open as many accounts as you need to manage your cash and savings.+

do i have to have a commsec debit mastercard® linked to my accounts?

No, the CommSec Debit MasterCard is optional, but you will need it if you wish to access funds in your CommSec Cash Account through an ATM, and for point of sale, online or telephone purchases.

is my commsec debit mastercard linked to my investment account?

No. Your CommSec Debit MasterCard is linked to your CommSec Cash Account. You can instantly transfer money from your Investment Account into your Cash Account.

how do i view my accounts online?

When your accounts are opened, you will receive email notification with details about how to login and view your accounts.

when i use my commsec debit mastercard® to withdraw cash from an atm, which account do i select?

You must select ‘credit’ when withdrawing cash from any ATM, and when making any other transactions with your CommSec Debit MasterCard.

can i withdraw cash or check my cash account balance from non-commonwealth bank atms?

Yes, but you may be charged a fee. See the separate Schedule of Fees and Charges downloadable at commsec.com.au

can i make cheque deposits to my commsec cash account?

To deposit a cheque to your CommSec Cash Account complete a cheque deposit form (downloadable from commsec.com.au) and post it to:

it’s important to note that you cannot deposit cash or cheques into your account via an ATM or through a Commonwealth Bank Branch. However, you can transfer funds electronically to your account at any time online.

can i manage my commsec cash account using an automated phone system?

No, an automated phone system is not currently available for CommSec Cash Management. However, you can call our Customer Service Officers on 13 15 19 between 8am and 8pm, (Sydney time) 7 days a week if you need assistance.

what is the minimum initial deposit amount?

There is no minimum deposit amount.

is there a minimum balance for my accounts?

There is no minimum balance for the CommSec Cash Account or the CommSec Investment Account.

do i have to use my commsec cash account to settle my share trades?

You can continue to settle your CommSec share trades using the method you are currently using. However, if you are CHESS-sponsored and settle your shares online via your CommSec Cash Account, you’ll benefit from lower brokerage. You’ll also be earning interest on your CommSec Cash Account when the balance is $5,000 or more.

how does the autosweep feature work?

Increase your interest earnings with CommSec Cash Management’s unique AutoSweep function. Simply activate it online and set a balance amount above $10,000, and choose between a weekly or monthly AutoSweep.

Each week or month, on the day or date you specify, available funds over the amount you’ve set are automatically swept into your higher-interest CommSec Investment Account.

Any time you need access to those funds again, you can instantly transfer them back to your CommSec Cash Account.

do i have to use the autosweep function?

The AutoSweep function is optional and you can set it up to suit your needs.

can i change my autosweep?

Yes. You can activate the facility online, and change your specifications whenever you wish.

when will my funds transfers be processed?

Transfers between your CommSec Cash Account and your CommSec Investment Account are instant, as are transfers to other CommSec accounts.‡

Most other transfers requested before 4:30pm will be processed by the next business day. Those requested after 4:30pm will be processed on the second business day.

For margin loans, transfers made before 3pm will be available in the chosen bank account the next business day.

For your security, additional delays and/or holds may be placed on fund transfers to new billers and/or payees.

‡ For security reasons we may place a temporary hold on first time transfers to non-linked CommSec Cash Accounts and CommSec Investment Accounts. Please refer to the CommSec Cash Management Terms and Conditions for more information.

is the interest on my investment account tiered?

No. You’ll earn competitive interest on every dollar in your CommSec Investment Account.

how often are statements issued?

You will receive a consolidated online statement each month if you to choose to receive statements online. If you require a paper statement it will be posted to you quarterly at a cost of $10 per statement.

are my accounts secure? Yes, your accounts are protected by sophisticated security, including:

• Two-factor password and SMS authentication.

• Transaction fraud monitoring.

• Make BPAY payments and Pay Anyone transfers.

• 28-bit encryption.

are there any fees? There may be fees associated with some transactions. Please see the separate Schedule of Fees and Charges downloadable at commsec.com.au

what are my daily transfer limits for bpay® and pay anyone?

The default daily limits for BPAY and Pay Anyone transfers are $1,000 each, but you can ask us to increase these limits up to as much as $100,000 for BPAY and for Pay Anyone online transactions. For Pay Anyone transactions up to $1m, call customer service on 13 15 19, 8am to 8pm, (Sydney time) 7 days a week.

what is my daily withdrawal and transfer limit on my commsec debit mastercard®?

You can withdraw up to $3,000 through ATMs each day per CommSec Cash Account. There are no limits on purchases including online or via the telephone.

what happens to funds in my commsec cash account or investment account when i use them as collateral for my margin loan?

When you use your funds as collateral for your Margin Loan, they are placed on hold. This means that you will not be able to access them or transfer them until they are no longer being used as collateral. You will, however, continue to earn interest on these funds.

can i have a cheque-issuing facility on my account?

No, but you can make direct payments from your CommSec Cash Account online at any time.

can i make transactions at a branch?

If you need to withdraw more than the ATM limit, you can withdraw cash over the counter at branches of financial institutions displaying the MasterCard logo.

Fees and charges may be imposed on you by the financial institution. You will incur a fee from us for this service.

i already have a commonwealth bank account — can i view my commsec cash management accounts through netbank?

No, your CommSec Cash and Investment Accounts are not linked to your Commonwealth Bank accounts. However, it is simple to transfer funds between them if you need to.
