we served ourselves insmaller dishes at the table.

Also included was alarge baked potato-we aretalking a spud the size oftwo fists-served wi th sourcream and chives as well asbutter. In .spite of its largesize, it was well cooked.

For dessert. I selectedthe cheesecake withstrawberries. The otherchoice that evening was anapple strudel.

Moist and creamy, thedessert was marred by thefact that it was served on adishwasher·hot plate. Theheated dish made me thinkafter the first bite the wholecake had.been warmed up.

Our waitresses-theone who took our order andserved us the main coursedid not last through themeal-were quick with coffee and tea refills.

The restaurant's decoris a little uneven. Weentered through a fairlyelegantly decora ted loungeand were seated in a diningroom with tables that hadplastic table coverings.

Also. slightly more subdued lighting in the diningarea would have given thespace a more intimate andopulent feeling. -RigaChavez

The gocxl impression inthe parking lot extended tothe meal and throughoutmy evening at GreatAmerican.

As is probably evidentby the name, the mainitem~ on the menu werebeef. Prices range from$16.95 for a T-bone to $7.95for a chopped steak.

Other specialties of thesteakbouse were severalba, rbecue dishes at $11.95and seafood ranging fromred snapper at $9.95 tolobster at $19.95. ~

My companion and Istarted the evening byordering wine. Unfortunately for us. it was Sundaynight and village ordinanceprohibits Sunday liquorsales. We settled for iced teaserved in what looked likesmall canning jars withhandles.

I chose a combinationof steak and lobster grilledon a skewer. as did my companion. My steak was cook·ed to a tender medium welland the wood gave thelobster just a hint ofsmokehouse flavor.

My only quarrel withthe main course was two ofthe four pieces of steak hadtoo much salt for my taste, but not so excessive as tomake them unpalatable.

My companion did notcomplain about thesaltiness.

He raved about the pinto beans and the pineapplecole slaw that were servedwith the entrees.

Not usually a cole slaweater, he liked the tanglnesspineapple added to the cab-bage. The pinto beans werecooked in a spicy barbecuesauce. Both were brought tothe table in large bowls and
