Digital Kitchen

While not being one specific title sequence designer, Digital Kitchen have created many capturing title sequences.Founded in 1955, their main focus are the connections between brands and consumers in converging media. Their work consists of design, motion graphics and animation work.

A network that Digital Kitchen often work with is HBO. Though the title sequence that I am going to be analysing is not a film, I feel that HBO’s personal achievements make them different enough fromother networking sites that its plausible.HBO were the first network that truly changed the television. They one said ‘It’s not TV. It’s HBO.’ they brought good, original series to the TV

.They charged the viewers to have their channel so that they owned the rights to play pretty much what they wanted when they wanted. This really opened the narrow minds that were working in television and made being a part of television something to be proud of, not ashamed.

Digital kitchen worked closely with this show to create and interesting original title sequence. At the time this show was being made, the topic it was based on was one of the hottest, DigitalKitchen wanted to make the title sequence completely different from all of the new films andseries out that included similar themes and storylines. They stated that they ‘sought to translate larger thematic struggles into seemingly found Imagery from the real world’ and so they did.

True Blood Title Sequence: what makes it so good?

Whilst still following the conventions of aTitle sequence such as the names of all Actors, it still completely moves away from the typical imagery that you would expect to see in a vampire based series.

It also shows you what kind of a place it will be set inAnd portrays New Orleans very well by using certainImages such as these to show the typical ‘red-neck’ area.

The images such as the dead rat and the decomposingfox show again the kind of people and town this will Be set in. It hints at the gorier side to True Blood and Slyly links in to Vampires.

The use of religion is also unexpected but links intowhat the show will introduce to its audience andalso sets a nice contradiction to the rest of the sexAnd gory based title sequence.

The sexual references not only linkinto the rating of the show and one of itsthemes but also the fact that HBO are allowed to show it.The way the images flash through fast cuts only gives the viewer a taster of the show itself.Again shows a different side to the typicalVampire story.
