The challenge

The most pressing challenge for Volvo was the worldwide distribution of its vast wealth of marketing assets.

The Volvo Car Corporation is one of the car industry’s strongest brands, with a long and proud history of world-leading innovations.

Freestyle Partners has given Volvo a way to store a wide range of content: images, video, audio, documents, as well as complete artwork files. So whether it’s a print agency in New York producing the latest XC60 billboard in Times Square, or a VCC Marketing Manager in Germany building a branded presentation, users can instantly access and share assets across the globe.

Case study

Freestyle Partners is an award-winning asset management system developed in collaboration with some of the world’s biggest brands.

This was especially important, as Volvo needed to make sure its brand was consistent across the entire global marketplace whilst maintaining close control of time sensitive imagery, video and brochure content for new and forthcoming vehicle launches.

This also meant communicating Volvo’s marketing strategy and brand values to a vast agency and supplier network, more than 50 national sales companies and thousands of dealerships across the globe.

Our solution

Working with Volvo, we started by mapping their requirements for asset management and the internal and external workflow for the distribution of assets. The outcome was a detailed understanding of the complex structure and permission levels for internal teams and external media partners and agencies.

This meant Volvo’s region-specific marketing collateral could be targeted at the right users, at the right times and in the right languages. Likewise, brand guidelines and periodic campaign materials could be disseminated to global teams at the push of a button.

In addition, our collaboration and communication features where used by Volvo to collaborate with media agencies and photographers across the globe, providing a platform to discuss projects and the refinement of work.

Security and governance was a major concern for Volvo. So, the ability to assign embargo and expiration dates, as well as rights management to photography assets was crucial. Close control of licensed images reduced the number of litigation cases and saved Volvo over £200,000 annually.

The results Implementing Freestyle Partners simplified the entire process of storing and distributing Volvo’s assets, enabling 5000 global users to access around 500,000 assets.

By improving efficiency in asset usage we cut costs across Volvo’s entire global marketing activity.

And, with no expensive internal systems to manage or buy, and using our dedicated support team to avoid increasing their internal head count, Freestyle Partners helped Volvo to achieve multi-million pound efficiency savings across the business.
