AN EVOLVING BUSINESSENVIRONMENT DEMANDS NEWER SYSTEMS AND METHODOLOGIESThe company is rapidly expanding due to the growing needs of energy in India. In a short period of time, the company has established several power generating cent-ers across the country and has plans to establish a few more.

However, to keep pace with its growth initiatives, the company felt the need to transform its business operations. Old systems and methods were incapable of handling the demands of the changing environmentof the company. Decentralized software with manual data entry processes was time consuming and error prone.

Further, there was total lack of integration among the power generating companies; though each company was independent, most of the key functions such as Procurement and Sales were handled in accordance with the head office directives.

In particular, the procurement process called for immediate streamlining and integration. As the company generates power from conventional as well as non-conventional sources of energy such as Natural Gas, LSHS, Coal/Coal Rejects and Biomass, it needed a holistic and systematic procurement system, which would enable them to enter variations in the purchase of raw materials, and manage and monitor fuel supply status continuously across the various companies.

Also, there was a need to improve the sales and invoicing process across centers. This in turn involved capturing the meter readings of power produced (sales side) and gas consumed (purchase side), and track billings and receivables on a day-to- day basis.

The company also needed a system that would help them view various financial indicators (ratios), consoli-date project-based reports on profit and loss, and map all the expenses and revenue transactions. Further, frequent inter-transfers of employees within the group called for payroll apportioning by the respective companies and diligent attendance management.

In short, the company needed an integrated, online, web-based system that would provide them with sophis-ticated and advanced tools to manage their cumbersome business processes, remain scalable, integrate the func-tionalities of new companies and aid them in meeting their corporate goals.
