The three authors of this paper are the core members of the Controlled RemoteViewing (CRV}-Random Event Generator (REG)Study Group. It is interesting toreflect that both CRVand REGshave a common origin, the United States Military, and yet we are hopeful we will use this technology to address some of mankind'sfundamental spiritual questions, such as "what is the true nature ofconsciousness?"

I am a former Pediatric Critical Care Physician who saw far too many of my youngpatients die. For years I struggled to understand why they reported, afterresuscitation, "near death experiences" while clinically dead. Finally one youngman angrily demanded me to tell him if his experience of being "in a huge noodlewith a rainbow in it" was "real, because if it was real, then you have to tell all theold people," With the help of John Stahler and his background in roboticsresearch, and Paul H Smith, I am finally finding some of the answers to that youngman's question.

The scientific evidence strongly suggests that we have an area in our brains, ourright temporal lobe, which allows us to connect to a spaceless timeless source ofall knowledge physicists call quantum non locality, and Mike van Atta calls lithe

Mind of the All", The first step to proving such a connection, for me, was meetingPaul H Smith and learning of the Controlled Remote Viewing protocol. When Itook his basic course, again and again I would question why we had to follow theprotocol. For example, I asked him, "if I have an AV (Advanced visual) that iscompletely correct, why do I have to do the protocol, why not stop there."

---------------------------

The CRV-REGStudy Group was born the minute he looked me in the eye, and saidslowly and patiently for the ioo" time, "Melvin, it is CONTROLLEDremoteviewing", that's what makes us different from TV psychics and con artists. Wecontrol the process, instead of it spontaneously happening to us. All three of ussuddenly realized that it is the protocol of CRVthen permits scientific analysis andtesting of the process.

Experienced and beginning remote viewers, trained in the Stanford ResearchInstitute (SRI) Controlled Remote Viewing Protocol were informally monitored bya random event generator (REG)while they tasked a remote target. We presentthree illustrative case studies with the purpose of introducing the concept ofmonitoring the stages and breaks of Controlled Remote Viewing (CRV)with a REG.These case studies demonstrate that CRVmay have effects on the data stream ofa REG. These effects could be used to further research the neuro-scientific basisof CRVas well as being useful as a training tool.

WHAT ISA RANDOM EVENTGENERATOR(REG)

This is a quantum source of a random stream of data, generated either bydecaying radioactive material or the signal noise generated by the junction of acommercial transistor. It creates a data stream as random as the Universe willpermit. This data stream is not deterministic, such as the random numbergenerator in a computer or simply flipping a coin multiple times would produce. This has important theoretical implications, as the REGproduces a data stream ofunlimited possibilities at the quantum level. We used the Psyleron device, developed by scientists at Princeton University.

One early pioneer of the REGwas Helmet Schmidt of the Boeing Corporation. Inthe early 1970s, he published papers documenting that he could anticipate theoutcome of the REGin a small but statistically meaningful way.(l) The McDonaldDouglass Corporation then funded Brenda Dunne and Robert Jahn of PrincetonUniversity to study possible mind-machine interactions between pilots andaircraft. A similar effect on sensitive electronic equipment, watches, and creditcards has been reported in survivors of cardiac arrest following near deathexperiences (2).

In 1997, Jahn, et. al, published their 12 year experience assessing the ability ofoperator intention to effect the data stream of the REG,which was then followedup with an effort by German investigators to replicate the Princeton Studies.Dean Radin, in Entangled Minds, recently reviewed this research. His analysis ofthe complete literature indicates a small but statistically significant ability of themind to effect the output of a quantum based REG.(3)

I have been studying the REGfor several years, but never took it seriously, precisely because the effects are so subtle. Then, my two year old daughter, andmy wife saw me with it, and showed me they can influence the data stream atwill. The key seemed to be that they didn't realize that they couldn't do it, forthem it was a fun game to play.

CASENUMBER ONE: I took my REGto my basic CRVtraining class with Paul HSmith, and had it on throughout his demonstration of the CRVprotocol. Myfellow students developed a pool of six potential targets for Paul to view. Wewrote a brief description of each target on a piece of paper and placed it in a thick

sealed envelope.

The final target was chosen at random without any of us knowing the final target.

I really had no idea what to expect from this experiment as it had never beendone before,

I was astonished to see that not only did Paul effect the data stream, he did it in away that precisely matched the stages and breaks of the CRVprotocol. During his

51 and early 52, the formerly random data stream became organized within a

99.9 % confidence level. During his AOl (analytic overlay) breaks, the data streamreturned to normal. This seemed to indicate that his contact with the "signal line"correlated with his ability to organize the output of the noise from a machinethrough quantum interactions.

CASENUMBER TWO:

Paul then contacted a student of his, a physician from Scotland. He did an RVsession for one of his clients and found the precise same pattern seen above.

CASENUMBER THREE:Both Paul and John wondered if the REGinformation couldbe used for training purposes. After I completed my Basic Course with Paul, Istarted running the REGduring my homework sessions. My wife served to bothmonitor the REG and my homework session.

My first attempt during Sl to describe a proper Gestalt of the target wascompletely wrong. I opened Paul's first envelop which gives the correct Gestalt.returned to the session and did a fairly credible job of then drawing anddescribing the target (for a beginner). When my wife and I reviewed the REGdata, we learned that my REG during the first attempt was completely random .•yet dramatically spiked in a statistically meaningful way during my second 51.

OUR CONCLUSIONS:Our easy concfusion is that this is an effect which obviouslywill benefit from further study. We did make one observation that may well helpus to understand both how the REGworks and how to best use it as a tool tounderstand consciousness.

The PEAR(Princeton Engineering Anomalous Research) lab, and its allied GlobalConsciousness Project (4) have identified operator intention as an important partof the mind's effect on the REGdata stream. After 18 years of solid research, they documented a subtle but clear effect. I have put some thought however intowhy my 2 year old daughter andourCRV studies seem to demonstrate a dramaticeffect.

The CRVprotocol itself gave me my first hint in understanding this seemingcontradiction. ltis speculated that the CRVprotocol functions to help the mindsort and identify right temporal lobe unconsciously perceived perceptions fromleft brain based analysis and intellectual overlay. If this is true, this provides anunderstanding of the informal dramatic effects seen with the REGas opposed tothe more formal laboratory based subtle effects.

Intention is a complex whole brain based behavior, which can involve one or bothsides of the brain simultaneously. If CRVand REGinteractions require right brainfunction, and the left brain inhibits those interactions, then at times intent will

71

Page 8: CASE STUDIES INVOLVING MONITORING CONTROLLED REMOTE ...spiritualscientific.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/RNG_Case_Studies... · CASE STUDIES INVOLVING MONITORING CONTROLLED REMOTE

dampen the mind's effect on the REGdata stream. Intent ultimately is ego

based.(5)

However, attention, according to neuroscience is either a right or left brain event, but not both. It has been called the gateway to consciousness.(5) Attentionbased REGefforts, as seen in play or observation of another person remoteviewing would then be expected to have a more robust effect than Intentionalbased efforts.

These are only preliminary data, but should give you some idea of how to use arandom event generator to track your progress and enhance your training duringCRV.
