Kofi Annan, Nobel Peace Prize and former Secretary General of the UN, and Plantu, French editorial cartoonist at « Le Monde » newspaper, gathered together twelve of the greatest international cartoonists at the United Nations Heardquarters in New York on October 16, 2006, at a symposium entitled “Unlearning Intolerance”. The Cartooning for Peace/Dessins pour la paix initiative started with this meeting. It aims to promote a better understanding and mutual respect betwen people of different cultures and beliefs using editorial cartoons as a universe language. The association facilitates meetings of professional cartoonists of all nationalities with a wide audience, to promote exchanges on freedom of expression and recognition of the journalistic work of cartoonists. Cartooning for Peace gathering 108 cartoonists from 42 nationalities.

To answer schools and small cultural increasing requests NGOS, Cartooning for Peace proposes since March 2013 a press cartoons travelling exhibition of eleven scrolling kakemonos (panels of size100 x 200 cms).

In a simple and effective way, this exhibition approaches important topics to Cartooning for Peace: What is press cartoon ? Can we really make fun of everything ? Cartoons and religions ; What is censorship all about ? ; The role of the Internet ; Racism ; Children in the midst of conflicts ; Women’s rights ; Let’s save the planet.

Since March 2013, the exhibition has travelled throug French schools and was presented in events and festivals such as “Jours pour la paix” in Montreal (Canada), the Honoris Causa prize-giving ceremony at the University of Liège (Belgium) or still the “Tribunes de la presse” of Bordeaux (France).

TECHNICAL CONDITIONS

ExHibitioN’s CoMPositioN 11 scrolling panels corresponding to 11 linear metres.

tECHNiCal CoNditioNs foR PRiNtiNg Expolit fireproof vinyl canvas: 1metres x 2,150 metres with 450 gr/m2.

ExHibitioN’s sEt uP A single person can assemble and dismantle the exhibition’s panels in about ten minutes.

PaCkagiNg Scrolling panels are rolled around their support and packaged in carrying bags.

Each bags represents 1,30 metres high and weights around 4 kg.Number of bags : 11 (one by panel).Total weight : around 40 kg.
