Carroll Creek Communicator Dear CCMPCS Community, Thank you for your continued support of our children throughout the month of April. We especially enjoyed seeing many of you at our Book Fair and Parent Educa- tion Night! We hope you can utilize the books and Montessori tools you obtained to support school achievement at home. I have stated this before, but I think it never hurts to repeat it….when parents are involved in their children's education, both children and parents are likely to benefit. In fact, researchers report that parent participation in their children's school- ing frequently enhances children's self-esteem, improves children's academic achievement, improves parent-child relationships, helps parents develop posi- tive attitudes towards school, and provides better under- standing of the schooling process. With that said, let’s keep up the involvement and focus on the best teaching and learning possible throughout May and June! Counseling Corner

Hi CCMPCS Families,

Tonight my daughter requested one of her

favorite stories before bedtime. She selected a

story from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean

Covey. I started to read this book to her long

before she could understand its powerful

message. And now years later, these true-to-

life stories have become part of our common

language.

The story we read tonight was about the pow-

er of synergy (Habit #6 - Synergize). In kid-

friendly terms, together is better. The story

recognizes the importance of valuing other's

strengths and learning from them. When

faced with a problem, seeking out the help of

others is vital. A team can create better solu-

tions than anyone of us can alone.

After reading to her, I reflected on this mes-

sage of together is better. I am so proud to be

a part of the CCMPCS community. I am hon-

ored to watch the amazing work that has gone

on in our school with our teachers and fami-

lies. The dedicated spirit of our entire

CCMPCS family truly shines through in every

aspect of our school. This year we have laid

the foundation of a trusting and safe environ-

ment for our kids and I am excited to see that

grow for the remainder of this year and on

into the next. Together as a team, we have ac-

complished so much. Together as a team, we

will continue to learn and grow. Together tru-

ly is better.

Yours,

Deb Herbaugh Counselor, CCMPCS

Another Dimension In the fourth quarter we are exploring sculpture. Our children are learning about three dimen-sional form and the variety of mediums and materials they can use to create in the round.

After creating a hand-painted, paper sculp-ture, all students began a mask making project. Primary classes made paper masks embel-lished with a variety of materials as they viewed, described, discussed and drew facial expressions and learned about the expressive Hahoe Masks of Korea.

Lower Elementary classes are using papier mache to develop animal masks as they learn about the Pre Columbian masks of Mexico which depicted animals and were worn during ceremonial ritu-als. After discussing ideas about what animals symbolize, children reflected on their own per-sonality traits and chose an animal that best rep-resents them. These works are in progress so please visit the art blog to see the children’s work when it is finished. http://artccmpcs.blogspot.com/

Thank you for the generous donations of recyclables!
