Food for Thought!
President’s Message for Third Quarter 2019
Dear Members,
As summer comes to an end, hopefully everyone had a successful
harvest, since conditions have been very favorable for the recent growing
season. As the county fair fades into a fond memory, we all know this
event could not have been so successful without the dedication and hard
work of our members.
The young farmers picnic was a great success and attracted
several new members. We are already working on plans for next year’s
event. A big “Thank You” to Ashley Barber and Greg Dell for their time
and effort to make this a great and fun day.
Elsie McKenzie is now our new Miss Carroll County Farm
Bureau. We are delighted to have this smart and energetic young lady on
our side to help with our mission of promoting farming. She represented
Carroll County at the Maryland State Fair Miss Agriculture Contest and
did a great job.
We are looking forward to our Annual Banquet. All our members
should make the utmost effort and commitment to attend.

— Bring a friend along! And have her or him become a new member. The hall should be
full as we had it in the past and we are open for suggestions. Let's plan this together and make this a fun
evening.
Hopefully we all have a bountiful harvest with strong prices and bumper crops. Stay healthy and
be good to your body – you got only one – message from the farm bureau president’s wife!
See you at the banquet in October!
Your president
Harry Sellers
Days move on! Seasons change! As we move from late summer into fall, let us take time. Time
to be thankful! Time to be SAFE! Time to enjoy each other! As you are harvesting crops and traveling the
roads of Carroll County, please be aware of the traffic surrounding you. They should see your large
equipment and slow-moving vehicle sign. However some (many) drivers have their own agenda and do
not pay attention to others on the highway. A moment to think for them may be life- saving.
Congratulations to Elsie McKenzie who was selected Miss Carroll County Farm Bureau. Elsie was
very busy at the county fair along with caring for and showing her own animals. On August 22nd, Elsie
competed in the Miss Maryland Agriculture Contest. She shared a good presentation and made Carroll
County proud. Have a successful year, Elsie, as you promote agriculture at numerous county events.
Thanks to Angie Bachtel and her committee for organizing our county contest.
Our Carroll County fair was a success with good weather and great learning situations for 4-H/
FFA participants. I hope you attended the fair and witnessed the many achievements of our county youth.
Thanks to all volunteers who keep the fair going. Special thanks to those reliable helpers in the sandwich
stand. We appreciate your help. We'll need you next year.
Our next Farm Bureau Women's Committee meeting is Monday, September 16th 7:00 at the
county extension office. All Farm Bureau ladies are welcome to attend. New ideas are needed!
Mark your calendar for the annual Farm Bureau banquet Tuesday October 22nd at Pleasant Valley
fire hall.
Have a successful harvest season. Take TIME!

Summer is coming to an end for 2019, the Carroll County Young Farmer group has had an exciting
year so far! In July we held a membership drive picnic at Local Homestead Products that was very well
attended, a great group of current members attended and we also signed up several new members which
we are very excited about! A big thank you to all the sponsors of the numerous prizes we were able to
raffle off and a huge thank you to Trevor and Victoria Hoff for the letting us use their venue!
Summer has also brought fair season, along with all the other various activities we are already
involved in, our Young Farmer members were involved in running the sandwich stand at the county fair as
well as the ice cream booth at the state fair for a day. In the coming months as school and harvest starts we
all have a lot on our plate, yet a few of our members have expressed interest in going to the State Farm
Bureau Convention in Ocean City. We hope to continue to see new faces at our meetings so don’t hesitate
to contact us about the next one!
Congratulations to Danielle Albaugh and Aubrey Storey for being the First and Second place
Winners of the Young Farmers Crab and Corn Raffle! Thanks to all who supported us and bought tickets.
A huge Thank you to Myers Crab Shack, Dell Brothers, Rasche Brothers, and Peace and Plenty Farm for
donating all the prizes!
As always you can reach our secretary Ashley Barber through email [email protected]
or 410-857-5503 to call/text.
