Why should kids eat healthy? This term the Health and Physical Education Program is looking at healthy eating. Healthy eating is essential for supporting childrens good health, growth and development . Healthy eating in childhood means there is less chance of developing chronic diseases like heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, obesity and some cancers in the future. Eating healthily also makes children feel better and have more energy to work and play. Crunch & Sip is one way to have children eat more fruit and vegetables and also develop healthy eating habits. Crunch & Sip is a set time for children to re-fuel with vegetables and/or fruit and rehydrate by drinking water. The school is wanting to reinvigorate the Crunch & Sip program. Last week information was sent home to all families regarding the program and with the changes to our timetable we have set a time for Crunch & Sip. To support families during our promotion of the program, we are supplementing the program by providing platters to ensure every child is able to participate. The provision of platters will also support the Health Education Program by exposing the children to healthy food alternatives and what food is suitable for Crunch & Sip. Many families already provide Crunch & Sip and we would encourage everyone to, as we will be phasing out the provision of platters over the next few weeks. Parent Engagement Last semester there were very few opportunities for family members to join in school activities. Over the School Development Days, staff spent some time discussing the importance of family support and the contribution that families make to their childrens learning. This term we will be exploring ways we can provide opportunities for families to support their childs learning and engage with their childs teacher and the school. Dear Families

It was wonderful to see the children coming back to school. The first week got off to a very smooth start. This term we are hoping that the children will be able to participate in more activities. A calendar outlining the planned activities is included with the newsletter. The children have already started preparing for the Faction Sport Carnival which will be held in Week 9, Jumps and Throws on Wednesday 16

and the whole school Faction Carnival on Friday 18th September.

Why should kids eat healthy?

This term the Health and Physical Education Program is looking at healthy eating. Healthy eating is essential for supporting children’s good health, growth and development. “Crunch & Sip is a set time for children to re-fuel with vegetables and/or fruit and rehydrate by drinking water.” The school is wanting to reinvigorate the Crunch & Sip program.

Parent Engagement

Last semester there were very few opportunities for family members to join in school activities. Over the School Development Days, staff spent some time discussing the importance of family support and the contribution that families make to their children’s learning. This term we will be exploring ways we can provide opportunities for families to support their child’s learning and engage with their child’s teacher and the school. We will be working with staff, the School Board and P&C to develop some ideas.

Extra Curricula Activities

At the end of last term, families were able to watch and support their children who participated in the cross country. The school is now in a better position to recommence some of the additional and extra curricula activities. Run Club is already up and running and it is wonderful to see the number of children who are coming along to join in. Cross Country Training 8.20 AM is on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Senior Choir will commence as will Jump Jam practice. We will keep you informed as additional activities commence.

Miss Sinclair

Last term, 20 students from Year 4 and 5 were fortunate to read an uncorrected bound proof copy of a brand new novel about to hit the bookshops. Sydney author Jules Van Mil sent out an expression of interest to review her book ‘Gemma Riley and the Fashion Fiasco’ to gauge whether the content was engaging and asked the students to respond. Our students gave fantastic feedback on their interest level and the type of language used and some were prompted to upcycle their clothing and sew friendship hearts. Jules was appreciative and elated at the student’s response and will certainly be paying them a visit when she next travels to Perth.
