Tina Dacin is the E. Marie Shantz Chaired Professor of Strategy and Organizational Behaviour in the Queen's School of Business at Queen's University. She is the Director of the Queen's School of Business Centre for Social Impact. Her research interests include social entrepreneurship, microfinance, cultural heritage, traditions and strategic collaboration. Her work has been published in leading management journals and she has served in a variety of editorial positions for these journals. She is an experienced educator teaching in programs offered by the Queen's School of Business.

Tina has previously taught in the full time and Executive MBA programs at the Kellogg School of Management. Prior to joining Queen’s, Tina was a faculty member at Texas A & M University. Professor Dacin advises and speaks to major corporations in the airline, biotechnology, defense, energy, financial services, healthcare, and telecommunication industries. Recently, she was inducted as a Fellow into Sidney Sussex College at the University of Cambridge and is an ongoing visiting scholar and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Innovation at the Judge Business School.

Tina Bailey is the Executive Director of Community Foundation for Kingston & Area. A life-long volunteer who is passionate about making a difference in her community, Tina obtained her Bachelor of Science (Environmental) degree from the University of Guelph, and her Master of Public Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees from Queen’s. She has a variety of experience in the not-for-profit and charity sectors, and spent

several years working at Queen’s in a variety of roles before assuming her current position with the Community Foundation.Tina is a member of the Board of the Land Conservancy for Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington, a Trustee of Awesome Kingston, and a member of the Rotary Club of Cataraqui-Kingston.

Elizabeth Bardon is Chief of Public Relations & Community Engagement at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston, where she has worked since 1997. Her past healthcare experience includes serving as a faculty member and education consultant with the Canadian Healthcare Association’s management programs and working as a Research Associate for a Queen’s University Family Medicine Development project in Bosnia-Herzegovina. She is a

Certified Health Executive (through the Canadian College of Health Leaders) who holds a Health 2

Services Management certificate from the Canadian Healthcare Association and a Master of Arts Degree (History) from the University of Guelph. Ms. Bardon is also Past Chair of the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC), Canada’s leading provider of healthcare liability insurance.

Donna Bishop began Green Beauty in 2009 as an online boutique where beauty lovers could have confidence in the product performance, as well as the health and safety of the ingredients. In 2012 Green Beauty grew from being a leading e-tailer to a bricks and mortar location offering a full roster of hair salon, beauty bar and brow bar services. Donna is also a makeup artist and hair stylist and has a background in public relations, having worked with leading beauty and lifestyle brands, including The Body Shop

Canada. She is a founding member of the Just Beautiful Campaign cabinet with Environmental Defense and a long-standing member of Fashion Group International. Donna has appeared numerous times on the Marilyn Denis Show (CTV) and has been featured on Green Heroes (TVO) and in the documentary Cosmetics Coming Clean (Smithsonian Canada), as well as in The Mom Shift (Random House) InStyle Magazine and many other publications including The Globe and Mail, Best Health, NOW Magazine and More Magazine, plus numerous beauty blogs. She holds a BAH in Film and Art History from Queen's University.

Trevor Dagilis is District Manager at the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. Dr. Dagilis is a professional engineer, who has led teams in R&D management, innovation, performance improvement, executive coaching, and environmental compliance. Trevor has a PhD in engineering from Queen's University, and an MBA from McGill University. During his time at Queen's, Trevor founded Queen's Project on International

Development (QPID), was a Residence Don, and volunteered at the Birth Control Centre. As a Rotarian, Trevor is Chair of Rotary District 7040's International Service Committee and is active in Rotary's international youth exchange program.

Most recently, Stephen Keith was the President and CEO of Search Minerals Inc., a company focused on the exploration and development of Strategic Metals. Prior to his work with Search, Mr. Keith was a founder and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Rio Verde Minerals Development Corp., a company he took from concept to listing onto the TSX, with over $30 million completed in equity financings. Mr. Keith led Rio Verde until its acquisition by B&A Fertilizers Limited on March 13, 2013. In addition, Stephen sits

on the Board of Directors of Aura Minerals (TSX:ORA), a company focused on the acquisition, exploration, development and operation of gold and base metal projects in the Americas; and Dominican Renewables Inc., focused on biofuels in developing countries, with a triple bottom line. As an engineer, he has worked with mining and energy companies on projects through feasibility studies, engineering

design, project management and construction. In finance and investment banking, he has engaged in over C$2 billion in financings and merger and acquisition deals for natural resource projects.He holds a BSc, Applied Science (Queen's University), an International MBA (York University, Schulich School of Business) and a P.Eng. (Ontario and British Columbia).

Steven Rose is a practicing environmental engineer specializing in contaminated sites and groundwater matters and the Vice President of Malroz Engineering Inc. He is licensed as a professional engineer and a professional geoscientist in Ontario, and as a professional engineer in Alaska and California. Malroz is a Kingston-based environmental consulting company servicing private and public-sector clients across

Ontario in matters related to environmental investigations and remediation, water servicing for rural developments, impacts and approvals for industrial permit applications including manufacturing and mining, and monitoring of the long term impacts from closed landfills. Steven is an active member of several professional and technical organizations. He holds engineering degrees from Queen's University and the University of Southern California. He has three grown children and lives in Kingston with his wife, and is a long-time supporter of Queen’s University!

“Preparing for an Academic Career”

Stéfanie von Hlatky is an assistant professor of political studies at Queen’s University and the Director of the Queen’s Centre for International and Defence Policy (CIDP). She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Université de Montréal in 2010, where she was also Executive Director for the Centre for International Peace and Security Studies. In 2010, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Peace and Security

Studies and a policy scholar with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. In 2011, she was a Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College’s Dickey Center for International Understanding. Prior to joining Queen’s, von Hlatky was a senior researcher with the Center for Security Studies at ETH Zurich. She is also the founder of Women in International Security-Canada. She has published in the Canadian Journal of Political Science, International Journal, European Security and has a new book with Oxford University Press entitled American Allies in Times of War: The Great Asymmetry (2013).

Tim Bryant holds the Donald and Joan McGeachy Chair in Biomedical Engineering at Queen’s. As a member of the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies, and the Department of Surgery, he is recognized for fundamental studies in biomechanics and biomaterials. Most recently, Dr. Bryant has participated as the scientific lead in an international consortium that was awarded the

Medical Design Excellence Award Gold Medal for a high performance affordable prosthetic foot now used throughout the world.

“Innovation & Entrepreneurship”

Greg Bavington was appointed Executive Director of the Queen’s Innovation Connector in November 2012. His latest innovation challenge follows five years as President and CEO of KN Rubber LLC and roles helping to design smelters in South Africa and GM’s modernized assembly plant in Oshawa. Greg was also exposed to several high-profile

engineering projects, including the English Channel Tunnel and the SkyDome roof. He is an elected member of Queen’s University Council and an alumnus serving on the Queen’s Engineering Society Board of Directors. Greg also serves on the board of several private companies, income trusts, trade associations and not-for-profit organizations.

Scott Selbie has been the Director of Research at C-Motion (Germantown, MD) since 1998, Scott has been the President and Director of Research at HAS-Motion (Kingston, ON) since 2008. He is currently an adjunct Professor at Queen’s University (Canada), and the University of Massachusetts (USA). He got his PhD in Biomechanics from Simon Fraser University (1990), he received post doctoral training at the University of Geneva, the University of Leuven, and Queen’s University. He was a staff scientist at the U.S. National

Institutes of Health where he focused on biomechanical modeling of the human larynx, and three dimensional reconstructions of biological structures from various medical imaging modalities, and was an inventor on 3 US Patents. He is the former Director of Biomedical Visualization for Medical Consumer Media (MCM) where he developed an immersive virtual environment for Oncologists. Scott has been the Principal Investigator on nine of C-Motion’s NIH grants and contracts.

“The Employable YOU - Identifying your Program Specific Skills”

Jim Banting is President and CEO of PARTEQ Innovations and has garnered over 15 years of experience in the life science sector. He transitioned to PARTEQ from the head of business development position at Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals, a U.S. company focused on rare diseases. Previously, Dr. Banting was in the business development group of the U.S. biotechnology company Human Genome Sciences. Dr. Banting graduated from Queen’s in

1993 with an honours degree in Life Sciences. He went on to earn his doctorate in pharmacology at Queen’s. His career began as a co-founder of the Queen’s spin-off company Vaxis Therapeutics.

Chad Gaffield, Professor of History and University Research Chair in Digital Scholarship at the University of Ottawa, was President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada from 2006 to 2014. As president of SSHRC, he helped define a new model of innovation that places knowledge and understanding of human thought and behaviour in the past and present at the centre of our efforts to make a better future. In this

people-centred model of innovation, graduates from the humanities and social sciences make key contributions across the private, public and non-profit sectors. Dr. Gaffield is a former president of the Canadian Historical Association and the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Tatiana Lomasko has more than 15 years of experience in strategic planning as a scientist, project manager, and IT specialist in healthcare/research organizations and government. Over the course of her career and her academic training, she has acquired solid expertise in bringing together and working with people with a wide range of backgrounds (e.g., scientists, clinicians, executives, business and IT professionals, etc.), a critical skill that she

leverages in her role that interfaces with researchers, hospital administrators and the healthcare system. In addition to having earned a Master’s (Informatics, Mathematics and Software Engineering) and a PhD (Medical Sciences), she also completed an MBA to further advance her business and leadership expertise, allowing her to continue to pursue her passion for healthcare and to apply her business and talent administration skills into a strategic management career in Ontario's healthcare reform. Her MBA was funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)’s Science to Business Grant.

Julia L. Pomoransky, (formerly Julia Rintoul) currently manages the pre-clinical development of novel cancer therapeutics called oncolytic viruses, at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). Working in collaboration with the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, the unique grant-funded project has recently transitioned into a biotech start-up. As part of a small management team in a start-up biotech environment, Dr. Pomoransky

has acted as both the dedicated Project Manager, and Production Manager since 2012. Her role at the OHRI initially involved the set up of a project management culture, and the set up of a quality management system. With the goal of submitting Clinical Trial Applications (CTA), Dr. Pomoransky manages all aspects of translational research including the execution of toxicology studies, the development of clinical testing assays, the development of a high-quality virus manufacturing process, and the preparation of regulatory documentation. She also managed the setup of a virus manufacturing facility at the OHRI, and as Production Manager, oversees the manufacturing of virus product for clinical use. In her spare time, Dr. Pomoransky has also worked as a project management and/or medical writing consultant for several biotech/pharma companies. Prior to holding this position, Dr. Pomoransky conducted her Ph.D. training with Dr. John Bell at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute investigating the use of oncolytic viruses in the development of novel cancer treatments. She received her BSc (Biotechnology) from Brock University.

Bruce Seet earned a B.Sc (Honours human physiology) and Ph.D. (Microbiology and Immunology) from Western University (London, Canada), followed by a post-doctoral research fellowship at Mt. Sinai Hospital (Toronto). He later completed his MBA (part time) at the Rotman School of Management (Toronto). Following a decade of research in academia, Dr. Seet joined GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 2006 and held a variety of roles in

Medical Affairs, Marketing, Policy and Market Access and Reimbursement and supported a range of therapy areas such as vaccines, oncology and other specialty care products. The guest lectures at the Rotman School of Management and is the President and founder of the Science to Business Network (S2BN), a not-for-profit organization that promotes life science commercialization and health care innovation in Canada.

René Stock is Director for Quantitative Analytics and Methodology and a key subject matter expert in emerging trends in market risk and counterparty credit risk at Scotiabank. He leads a team to oversee risk measures as applied to the bank’s trading and investment books, including counterparty credit risk processes, capital reporting, and risk methodology. He also represents Scotiabank in discussions with regulators and policy

groups on key methodology and risk measurement issues. In previous roles at Scotiabank, he established the Methodology and Research group and has supervised several large-scale model validation projects. He has been engaged in projects around market and credit risk, including spearheading the Bank’s first counterparty credit risk backtesting program. Prior to moving to finance and risk management, René completed a PhD degree in Physics from the University of New Mexico. He has authored and co-authored 17 publications with over 300 citations in distinguished journals such as Physical Review Letters in the areas of quantum information, atomic physics, and optics. René holds an MBA degree from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He is also Director for Policy for the Science to Business Network.
