Spotlight
Junior Justin Wisinski has been able to use his enthu-siasm for the sport of fishing to earn high school credit since becoming a Youth Apprentice for Gollon Brothers Wholesale Bait. He started his ap-prenticeship in March of 2016, and plans to contin-ue in this position until he graduates in May of 2018. This position offers him the opportunity to learn many things regarding the fishing industry, and his duties include cleaning holding tanks and trucks, loading minnow trucks, helping to seine minnows, and setting traps in hold-ing ponds.
Justin has found the Youth Apprenticeship program to be very rewarding, and has welcomed the chance to gain hands-on experience in a job that relates to his future career. And, as a bonus, he has earned cred-it toward graduation.
After he graduates from SPASH, Justin plans to attend UW-Stevens Point , majoring in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences or Forest-ry. Being in the Youth Apprenticeship program at SPASH has helped to con-firm his career choice , and he is looking forward to the future.
Three SPASH stu-dents recently trav-eled to Madison, Wisconsin with their instructor, Mr. Corey Opper, to compete in the SkillsUSA state competition. Ac-cording to the SkillsUSA website, it is an organization that “improves the quality of America’s

Senior Adam Pryor competed in the Infor-mation Technology Services Division. He took first place in this division, making him the state champion. He also received a gold med-al. Senior Baylor Braatz received a bronze medal for his third place finish in the Preci-sion Machining Division. Senior Casey Rzentkowski also competed in the Welding division. Speakers from the community recently visited our classroom to explore career options with students. Ad-missions Representatives from the University of Wis-consin Stevens Point, North Central Technical College and Mid State Technical College came in to inform stu-dents about the admission process. In addition, Mrs. Judy Rannow came in to start self assessments and stimulate thought on strengths and weaknesses. Junior Achievement also ran its program called “JA: It's My Future!” Students are currently learning how to tie ties and iron to prepare for the Part 1 of his/her final exam. Agriculture is a highly technical and ever-changing
industry upon which everyone is dependent. In order
to maintain agriculture as the nation’s number one
industry, it is crucial to understand the importance of
agrisciences, marketing strategies, safe food produc-
tion and continuous research. Strong, relevant
agriscience programs are one way to can maintain the
nation’s agricultural edge.

SPASH Welding Students Featured in City-Times
Several SPASH students enrolled in Mr. Strobel’s Advanced Welding class were recently featured in an article in
the Stevens Point City-Times. The article highlighted their work with the city to make new bike racks for Mead
Park. These racks were made by students and can be completed in less than 60 minutes, with about $30 in ma-
terials. This is the first time the class has partnered with the city on a project like this. The article also men-
tioned popularity of the class, and the great job prospects for students interested in welding as a career. Mr.
Strobel stated, “These kids could walk out of here and right into a job as a fabricator making $25 an hour, no
joke.” Check out the article in its entirety at https://www.spcitytimes.com/2017/05/02/spash-students-leave-a

SPASH Personal Finance students recently participated in an Egg and Spoon Insurance activity. Students lined up as
a team where one student has an egg on the spoon in their hand and tries to move as quickly as they can to go around
the green space to bring the egg back to the next person waiting in line and then transfer the egg (without touching it)
to their spoon. In order to successfully complete this game students must look at some of the risk factors associated
with the egg and spoon game and determine if it is a good idea if you should purchase risk protection aka EGGSUR-
ANCE.
