CREW TEAM :The GP crew involve with all kind of day to day activities to assist either to Chief officers in Deck side or Second Engineer in Engine side. One can get Promotion from GP crew position to Captain level or Chief Engineer level with proper exams and sea experience. The catering crew will perform the food preparation and kitchen activities. The specialized fitters & welders are very much needed for various types of vessels.

Career as a Deck Officer

A career at sea is both arduous and rewarding. It offers a high level of job satisfaction; a wide experience and challenging work environment. Experienced Mariners are in great demand in various shore assignments because of their ability to handle all types of job, their resourcefulness, sense of responsibility and ability to work under most demanding circumstances.

A Deck officer is a very valuable and responsible member of a shipping crew. He has to navigate the ship from one port to another in all circumstances with caution and safety at all times and maintains the equipment operated by him in good working order. This gives him watch keeping experience and tremendous confidence. However, it must be understood that the life of an officer is tough, and not suited for the weak hearted. But there are compensations as well. A class III Certificated of Competency holder starts as a third officer (approx. Salary US$ 3500) with prospects of becoming a Master in about 8-10 years (approx. Salary US$ 10000 - 14000) plus leave and allowance. Following courses are conducted by Government approved training institutes.

Course Name: One year Pre-Sea Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc Nautical Science affiliated to Indian Maritime University

Eligibility : (a ) Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60%

(b ) B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year.

(c ) B.E./B. Tech. Degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE with an average of not less than 50% of marks in the final year. The candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th Std or in the Degree course conducted by recognized Board or any University.

Career as a Engineer Officer

Naval Architecture

Naval Architecture is an engineering discipline dealing with the design, construction or Maintenance of ships, boats and all types of marine vessels and offshore structures like merchant ships, oil tankers, gas tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, passenger ships and ferries, cruise ships, frigates, destroyers, aircraft carriers, amphibious ships, submarines, underwater vehicles, icebreakers, offshore drilling platforms, semi-submersibles, high speed crafts, hovercrafts, multi-hull ships, fishing boats, tugs, platform supply vessels, pilot vessels, rescue crafts, yachts, power boats and other recreational crafts, the opportunity is immense.Naval architecture involves basic and applied research, design, development, design evaluation and calculations during all stages of the life of a marine vehicle. There is a huge demand for naval architects in the countries where ship building industry is in a large format like US, Korea, Singapore, UK and Netherlands. Naval architects can not only fit in the ship building industry but also in Naval dockyards and ship design and research centers. They are in demand both in the private and government sectors. Ie: Surveyors in DG Shipping, Classification societies Since Naval architect is an engineer who is responsible for the Naval architects can also join ships for on-board duty after undergoing pre-sea course for GME (Approved by DG Shipping, Govt. Of India) and become 4th engineer.

G.P. Rating (General Purpose Rating Course)

Introduction : Shipping is continuously growing industry, and trained persons find jobs in Indian and foreign companies. Attempts are being made to create new openings and facilitate employment of ratings. GP Rating candidates are those who have been trained in both Deck and Engine Room duties. Such ratings may be employed in either department according to the needs of the company. Ratings participate in seamanship activities, cargo handling, maintenance work, operation and maintenance of machinery.

Duties of a Saloon Rating :As a Saloon rating you’ll perform a variety of jobs as well as being cook or cook/steward – such as forming part ofemergency response teams involved in firefighting, security and passenger control or rescue duties. B.Sc Nautical Science (DNS)

The above program is approved by Director General of Shipping, Government of India. The design of the course is as per the guidelines laid down by the Directorate.

This training provides a School (10 + 2) / ('A' Level) leaver sure path to become a qualified Deck Officer. The training at Academy where apart from familiarizing him with various aspects in workshop comprising of carpentry, plumbing, machine shop, electrical shop and hot - work. Also required to mandatory STCW Course as required for seafarers.

On successful completion of the semester 1 & 2 Diploma in Nautical Science is awarded by INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY (IMU) on completion of the pre-sea training he undertakes the sea phase compressing of 18 months comprising semester 3,4 & 5 of on board ship residential training along with correspondence course with INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY (IMU).

On successful completion of phase II (semester3, 4 &5) IMU will award the trainee with Advance Diploma in Nautical Science, Trainee is required to undergo 4 months post-sea training in any training institute (2nd Mate Function) on Successful completion of the training & 'Passing the exam he will be awarded Certificate of Competency by Director General of Shipping and B.Sc. Degree in Nautical Science by INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY (IMU).

Eligibility / Academic Standard :(a) Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 55% OR b) B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 50% of marks in the final year. OR (c) B.E./B. Tech. Degree from l.l.T. or from a college recognized by AlCTE with an average of not less than 50% of marks in the final year.The candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English Language at 10th or 12th Std. or in the Degree course conducted by recognized Board or any University.

Age :Maximum 25 years.

Medical Fitness :Medically fit with eyesight 6/6, without external aids. No color blindness.

B.Sc Nautical Science (3 Year Course)

(Approved by Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India)This course will lead the candidates to become the Captain of the ship. Captain of the ship is also referred as Master mariner. On successful completion of this pre-sea training, the candidates are eligible to become nautical Deck Cadets on board a ship. The leading international shipping companies are regularly conducting campus interviews at our Academy for the job placement. Our Academy has achieved 100% placement record for our cadets.

This course consists of six semesters. The B.Sc (Nautical Science) degree will be awarded by the University and Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India on the successful completion of three years duration, the cadets will be joining as the Trainee Navigating Officer Cadet on board ship. They will have to obtain 12 months sea experience. On completion of 12 months sea experience, they will be promoted directly as SECOND OFFICER without any further examinations. With further sea service & exams, they will be promoted to Chief Officer and then becoming Captain of the ship.

B.Tech (Marine) 4 Year Degree Course

This 4 years degree course duly approved by Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India and / or approved by University. The Academy imparts comprehensive training in Marine Engineering and shipboard practice. It comprises of academics and ship familiarization along with marine Workshop

This Program trains Candidates in the theory and practice of marine Engineering and completes workshop training as per the IMO module courses. It provides Ship owners with a ready Marine Engineer.

This 24 Months Pre-Sea courses for Diploma (Mechanical / Electrical) at the Academy imparts comprehensive training in Marine Engineering and Shipboard Practice. Graduate Mechanical Engineer (Approved By NewZealand School)

These 5 months Pre-Sea courses at the Academy imparts comprehensive training in Marine Engineering and Shipboard Practice. It Comprises of academics and ship familiarization along with Marine Workshop training (as per IMO modules) done at academy.

After completion of the courses at the Academy the candidate undergoes the four basic STCW course. The candidates then join the shipping company's vessels as Junior Engineers for sea time of 8 months where they undergo further practical training and maintain their TARB to ensure that the entire syllabus is covered and they get to do all tasks as prescribed. After this he goes for his Class III Examination at New Zealand

COURSE CONTENT:The course is conducted over 3 stages, as follows:

STAGE 1: Pre Sea Program (PSP).5-month duration, conducted in India. Upon completion, trainees will be awarded the GMEC3 Preparatory Course Certificate issued jointly by IMETA.

STAGE 2: Shipboard Attachment Program (SAP) 6-months Sea going training on board merchant ships of more than 750kW propulsion power, as junior or assistant engineers. A Distance Learning Program (DLP) will have to be completed by all the trainees during this stage.

STAGE 3: Marine Engineer Class 3 Certificate of Competency (Motor) A 6-week preparatory program leading to the trainees obtaining their Marine Engineer Class 3 (Motor) CoC issued by Maritime New Zealand, provided they satisfy all the assessment and other criteria. This is an IMO White List certification and accepted globally in the maritime world.
