Pauline Saggers sat on the sofa, hooked up to oxygen and started talking about the care she has received from Isabel Hospice. “I was admitted to the Hospice from hospital, following the diagnosis of life-limiting secondary lung cancer in October. It was a massive shock for me and my family.

I knew of Isabel Hospice by reputation, and living in Waltham Cross they are a well known local charity. I never expected to use them myself though. When I was in hospital the nurses were good and so was the care, but it wasn’t the expert palliative care I needed. It’s just the little things that make all the difference in the Hospice. I love my baths and in hospital the nurses are so busy, with so many patients to see, I was offered a bowl of water for a wash.

The Hospice nurses had the time to ask me how much I felt able to do, how much help I needed. Just taking to the time to talk to me was so refreshing. I knew I could get to the bathroom on my own, and get myself ready for a bath, I just needed help bringing my oxygen in. I felt empowered to be able to do things for myself again. One of the best moments was when the nurses asked if I’d like 10 minutes to myself. I just lay in the deep bath, and relaxed. I hadn't had time like that for weeks.

I had prepared my sons and daughters for the fact that once I was in the Hospice, I wouldn’t be coming home. That was my own misconception. Once there I was surprised to be discussing going home! I thought that was it, I was

in the Hospice until the end now, and would be going home occasionally for visits. In fact it’s the other way round!

After a home visit where the Hospice Physio and the Occupational Therapist measured up my house and checked it was suitable for me to return there, I was discharged to home. I have made my plans and know that I don’t want to go to hospital as an emergency at the end. I want, if at all possible, to go back to the Hospice. My children know I will get the best care there, and that has lifted a weight off my mind as well as theirs.

But, with the help of the Hospice, I am able to cope at home, and have more confidence. I now have visits from the Hospice Clinical Nurses, the Physio Team and the Occupational Therapist. I have been taught relaxation techniques that help with the breathing and have a stair lift and special equipment at home to help me.

I don’t quite know how to explain how wonderful all the staff and volunteers are at Isabel Hospice. They all work together there as a team. They have something special about them.

Now, I just take every day as it comes, knowing the Hospice will be there when I need it.

I thought I was going into the hospice to die

I just lay in the deep bath, and relaxed. I hadn’t had time like that for weeks. ‘

This is not how I expected to be spending my 60th year. ‘ ’

Jane was an inspiration and loved by everyone

Hospice nurses show they care4acuppa4

Jane Branford was a much loved and respected teacher when she retired as Head of Physical Education at Presdales School in Ware. She was described as ‘fantastic and inspirational’, ‘loved by everyone she met’, ‘a lovely and special lady who embraced life with care and kindness while being fun, witty and good humoured.’ After her retirement she spent time over the next five years travelling in camper vans and RVs with her husband Peter, also a retired teacher, both in the UK and further afield to New Zealand.

Peter said “Jane and I met when the Presdales hockey team, played my boys' team from Richard Hale School in Hertford. As you can imagine it was a hard fought match, and whilst the teams had their half time refreshments, Jane and I had a cup of coffee, and that, as they say, was that. We married in 1973 and had two children, Julia and Michael.”

“We first came into contact with the Hospice when Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer” explained Peter. “However we didn’t need to use their care services until her secondary cancer diagnosis in 2011. We had a Hospice Community Nurse come to see us, Jackie Watts who was so professional and reassuring. She gave us confidence to feel that we could cope, and that there was all the support of the Hospice team should we need it. When you have never been through an experience like cancer before, you need someone like that supporting you as you don’t know what you’re doing.

The care we got from the staff and volunteers at Isabel Hospice has been first rate. They helped Jane so much, including giving her physiotherapy and referring her to the Day Hospice at Hall Grove in Welwyn Garden City. We also both took part in some of the art

We are asking our supporters to hold tea and coffee fundraising mornings as part of our care4acuppa summer fundraiser. We have a fundraising pack with lots of ideas, including a quiz, so why not get together with friends, maybe have a bring and buy or a cake sale, all over a lovely cuppa of your favourite hot drink.

Call Maria Alexander on 01707 382500 for a pack or see page 19.

and craft activities whilst there, which we enjoyed and was quite a distraction from what was going on in our lives. The Hospice was there as much for me as it was for Jane. One time I hurt my back lifting her from a bed, and I was able to benefit from a massage, so they cared for me as well.

The level of care at all levels, from the cleaners, the cooks, the patient volunteers and the consultants has been of the highest standard. Everyone has been amazing, and we are pleased to have been able to raise over £2,000 in Jane’s memory by requesting donations to the Hospice rather than flowers at her funeral. It’s not until someone has gone that you often realize how well loved and greatly appreciated they were."

The Hospice nurse gave us confidence to feel that we could cope, and that there was all the support of the Hospice team should we need it.

Corporate Care News

RMGRMG's Social Committee decided to change the way in which we raise money for charity. Rather than having a different charity each month, RMG wanted to choose a charity that is local to Hoddesdon, that supports our community, that has a special association or meaning to many of our staff and one which we could provide continued support for each year.

From talking to staff members and from my own personal experience of the care provided to my father-in-law , some 14 years ago and more recently, the care and support offered to Jo Castley, my daughter's much loved PE Teacher and Netball Coach at Goffs School, the name of Isabel Hospice came up.

We made a visit to the impressive In-Patient Unit in Welwyn Garden City, and had a tour of the warehouse which supplies the Hospice shops. We saw for ourselves the wide range of help and support provided by Isabel Hospice our choice was an easy one to make. We feel that working together we can make a real difference.

Grill 55Jamie & Yoli Christopoulos of Grill 55 in Bishop’s Stortford have become great Hospice supporters, hosting last year’s Corporate Come Dine evenings as well as The 3rd Thursday networking with heart monthly lunches.

Jamie said “Grill 55 is a family run business and because of our Mediterranean background we believe strongly in the family coming together to enjoy a meal in a very relaxed atmosphere. We support Isabel Hospice because we are all part of the same community, and like extended families feel it important to take care of each other”

Heather Nesbitt PIWhen I heard about the work of the Hospice I was amazed to find that all the services are offered for free.

After I met the Hospice’s Corporate Relationship Manager I found out that I could support them by sponsoring lunches at their The 1st Thursday and The 3rd Thursday networking events. This is a great opportunity for me as a business owner to give back to our local community and in some small way help others who are in need. I also hope that it will encourage other business owners to step forward and do the same. So many people are affected by cancer and I have known people who have lost the fight against it.

I am delighted to be in the position to assist and we are coming up with new ways in which to raise more money for the charity over the coming months.

www.heathernesbittltd.co.uk

By reading the testimonials of companies who are currently helping Isabel Hospice you will see the wide variety of support we have from businesses large and small. If your business or company can help us in any way, please get in touch by contacting our Corporate Relationship Manager.

A team of dedicated cyclists are taking part in an extreme challenge next month. They will cycle from England through France, Belgium, Germany and Holland, covering around 500 miles. All the cyclists have funded themselves to take part in this epic event but would be delighted if you could sponsor their mammoth efforts. Just a few pence per mile would be fantastic.

1p per mile will raise £5, 2p per mile will raise £10.

Rob is 63 and was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) two years ago. He knows his condition is terminal and has found the strength of mind to make his End Of Life plans. Here’s how he got to that place…

When I was diagnosed with MND my consultant at the time put me in touch with a palliative care team more or less immediately” explained Rob from Welwyn Garden City. “I had a visit from an Isabel Hospice Clinical Nurse Specialist, and to be honest, I wasn’t in a good place to see her at the time. I had never had contact with a Hospice before, and the thought put the fear of God into me. To me it was a building where people go to die and this was still very early in my diagnosis.

When I saw the Hospice Nurse, she explained that they could do so much more for me than I imagined and so initially she arranged for the Hospice physio team to see me as I had some shoulder problems. Although I have a phobia of hospitals, and always have had (so much so, that when I drive past the QEII I have to look away), I went along to the Hospice’s In-Patient Unit to meet the team. That was quite a thing for me. However, as I was shown round the Unit, my fears began to diminish. The atmosphere of the place was so different to what I ever imagined.

The physiotherapy on my shoulder gave me great relief, and soon it was suggested I went along to Hall Grove to see what they did at the Hospice’s Day Care services.

Again I was quite reluctant. I thought "I know I’m old, but I’m not that old!" But I decided to go along on a Wednesday afternoon as I knew it would give my wife Sue a break from caring for me. I am on a ventilator most of the time to help me breath, including at night, but I don’t use it on Wednesday afternoon when I visit Day Care. It’s a way of having a bit more freedom. Now, I just love it at Hall Grove and wouldn’t want to not go! I go along to see my friends, I’ve spoken to the Hospice Benefits Advisor, and even managed to find a good barber through word of mouth! I’m amazed at the scope of the Hospice Service. The attitude isn’t all “there, there” and have a cup of tea, its practical help given by people who really care about each patient as an individual.

Looking towards my death, I have always been aware of my own mortality. I have never found it particularly hard to talk

about, and so when I was diagnosed with MND I was able to accept it, not deny my fate. I talked to my consultant and wanted to know exactly what to expect as my condition

progressed. I wanted to know in effect how I was going to die and know what my options for living my life

with MND would be.

My End of Life Plan means I have visited a funeral director and got that side of things sorted. I know I want my ‘do’ at the local golf club and have even chosen the sandwiches. All the household

bills have been transferred into Sue’s name to make things easier after my death. I know I don’t

want to go to Hospital or be resuscitated should I have a heart attack, but am happy to be admitted into

the Hospice. I have also stipulated what kind of medication I will accept if I fall ill. I have a red

folder at home with all the information in and stickers on the fridge to indicate to the

paramedics that I have my Message in A Bottle* in there. I have planned as much as I can

to make things for Sue that bit easier at what is going to be a terrible time for her.

My attitude towards my condition is that I may as well get on with it. I retired at 56 after years in the motor trade. Sue and I had some great times together and when I was initially diagnosed we went on a couple of cruises. I can’t travel now but I can either

accept it or fight it and become bitter. What’s the point in that? The Hospice is helping me

live my life as well as I can. I’ve never been one to cry over something that gets broken, so that’s my

attitude for the rest of my life however long that may be.

When I saw the Hospice Nurse, she explained that they could do so much more for me than I

imagined.

My End of Life Plan means I have visited a funeral director

and got that side of things sorted.

I just love it at Hall Grove and

wouldn’t want to not go! I go along to see my friends.

I know I want my ‘do’ at the local

golf club and have even chosen the

sandwiches.

* Message in a Bottle holds the patient’s key information including their wishes for End Of Life Care and their medication. It is kept in the fridge as this is an easy place to access in times of emergency by medical professionals.

The working day of a Clinical Nurse Special ist

Throwing Caution to the Wind Lauren Ames, 25, is going to jump out of a plane in July to raise money for the Hospice. There are still places available if anyone fancies joining her!

Being scared of heights, Lauren is facing her fears because we cared for her grandad, Leslie Ames, who sadly died on 3rd March 2012.

Lauren said “My partner is a massive thrill seeker and loves anything like sky dives and bungee jumps. I, on the other hand, cannot think of anything worse! For his birthday recently, I bought him a sky dive in Las Vegas. He loved it. So I said that I would add it to my bucket list... thinking that with age would come bravery!!

My Grandad was diagnosed with terminal cancer 18 months ago, and stayed in the Hospice when we thought he was going to need a blood transfusion. They were fantastic and provided an immense amount of support to my Nan, who up until very recently was caring for him 100%. We are all heartbroken at his death.

I follow Isabel Hospice on Twitter and a tweet popped up asking for volunteers for a sky dive.... to which I responded... not really thinking about it! Then before

I know it I've got an application form and I'm sorting out a Just Giving page! The only thing keeping my mind off the jump is the fundraising! I'm trying to organise events to boost the funds and am spreading the word via my JustGiving page – http://www.justgiving.com/Lauren-Ames

or text NUTS86 to donate £5 to 70070

Everyone at the Hospice has been so supportive, sending me words of encouragement.

I can't believe I'm actually going to do it, but it's a great cause and it's better to do something and regret it, than to regret something you haven't done.”

If you would like to join Lauren, we still have a few places left for the skydive on 15th July. For more information call Lisa Seccombe, Director of Fundraising on 01707 382500.

There is no such thing as a typical day for a CNS. Each day brings new challenges and successes but the general format is often the same with an underlying ethos being to provide holistic assessment and care to both the patient and their family.

I usually start the week at Head Office, checking emails and sorting out any issues that the CNS covering the weekend may have dealt with for my patients following calls to the 24 hour advice line (we work seven days a week on a rota system).

During this office based time I will also arrange visits for the rest of the week. I will contact patients to check that their symptoms are well controlled and any medication or interventions that we have instigated are working. This information is then inputted onto our patient record computer system, a skill I am gradually building up speed in doing! This record system ensures that any colleague can see what symptoms and issues I have been dealing with for a particular patient. As the Hospice service is so extensive this

means that I am able to make referrals to other parts of our service, be this our In-Patient Unit, Day Care services, Benefits Advisor, Family Support, Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapy Team.

Following my initial office work, visits are then made to patient’s own home. For a first-time visit a full assessment is made and I explain both my role and what the Hospice offers as a full service. The patient’s needs are assessed, including psychological, spiritual and symptom issues, which could include blue parking badge information and attendance allowance / disability living allowance if eligible are applied for.

The role of the CNS can be very demanding and challenging at times and usually involves working beyond normal working hours. People are sometimes surprised to hear that I enjoy my job because of the nature of the work but being able to support patients and their families at a time of change and uncertainty is very satisfying.

My name is Ann Blackman and I am one of the Hospice’s Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS). I work within the Community Nursing Team alongside 11 other CNSs and our role is varied and demanding, but ultimately extremely satisfying. Broadly speaking, each CNS covers a specific geographical area. My work involves supporting Isabel Hospice patients who are registered with Hatfield and North Mymms GP surgeries. I liaise with GPs, District Nurses and other medical professionals on a daily basis. There are now no Macmillan funded community nurses in eastern Herts. If a patient in our catchment area has been visited at home, this will have been an Isabel Hospice Nurse, Marie Curie or District Nurse, depending on the type of care received.

Make A Will Week

TRUST NEWSThanks to the Adult & Children's Workforce Development (PVI Partnerships), Health & Community Services, Hertfordshire County Council for providing funding for end of life non-cancer education and training over the last four years.

Thanks to this funding Isabel Hospice will now be able to provide specialist end of life care for those patients and families affected by a range of illnesses other than cancer. These include conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease, end stage heart and renal failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Thanks to Hertfordshire PVI Workforce Development Partnership, both professionals and volunteers have been able to use their new knowledge and skills to support people for whom there was previously no specialist end of life care available. We will continue to extend this learning in the future, both within the Hospice and externally.

A big thank you to those of you who supported our second Make A Will Week and to the following solicitors who gave their time so generously: Betteridges, Bernard Pearce & Co, Braddon & Snow Solicitors, Breeze & Wyles, Crane & Staples, Curwens, Duffield Harrison, Ewart Price, Garden House Solicitors, Gisby Harrison, HRJ Law, Lever & Co, MacLeish Littlestone Cowan, Male & Wagland, Reynolds Johns Partnership (now Pellys RJP), Stanley de Leon, Tees Solicitors, Whiskers LLP.

We will let you on how much was raised in our next issue of Care News.

Isabel Hospice SocietyThe Isabel Hospice Society is a group of people who have remembered Isabel Hospice in their Will and would like to keep in regular contact with us. Because they have done this, we know they are interested in our current and future work. Twice a year we write to them with news updates, and once a year we invite them to an informal gathering where they can meet some of our staff and hear about current events, for example, in June last year they were given a presentation on the plans for the QEII hospital site by our Chief Executive, Nigel Furlong

If you have remembered Isabel Hospice in your Will and would like to be kept updated on our work by joining the Isabel Hospice Society, simply call our Deputy Director of Fundraising, Charity Warnes, on 01707 382544

Give to charity and reduce your Inheritance Tax Bill– your questions answered

We may think that it is only the very wealthy or philanthropic who give to charity in their Wills. The Government is keen to encourage charitable giving by Will. In the 2011 budget a reduced rate of Inheritance Tax was introduced and this has now come into effect. So that if you leave 10% or more of your estate to charity the rate of Inheritance Tax applied to your estate is reduced from 40% to 36%. This is becoming ever more attractive when taken into consideration that the Inheritance Tax threshold has remained at £325,000 since 6th April 2009.

The aim is that by reducing the tax rate, charities and your beneficiaries will benefit at the expense of HMRC. If we assume an estate of £500,000 with no gift to charity, the first £325,000 of the estate will be tax free and the balance of £175,000 will be taxed at 40%, giving rise to £70,000 Inheritance Tax bill.

However if 10% of the chargeable estate i.e. £17,500 is left to charity then the estate after the charitable gift amounts to £482,500, of which £325,000 is tax free and the balance of £157,500 will be taxed at 36% giving rise to a tax liability of £56,700, the beneficiary of the estate will receive £425,800, the charity £17,500 and HMRC £56,700.

If the Will had not included the charitable gift then Inheritance Tax would have been £70,000 and the beneficiary would have received £430,000. So under the new rules the beneficiary receives £4,200 less and HMRC receive £13,300 less and the charity receives £17,500.

This approach is welcome and should increase charitable donations at the upper end. In some cases if a Will already includes a gift to charity then under the new rules this charitable gift can be increased to 10% of the chargeable estate with no resulting loss to the beneficiaries who will receive the same amount, as HMRC bear the difference in a loss of tax received. It is hoped that such a measure will lead to a situation where charitable gifts at all levels in a Will are considered the norm. So however large or small your estate may be, please do consider whether there is room to include a gift to charity, especially the Isabel Hospice, in your Will.

We at Tees Solicitors are waiting to talk to you about your Will and we offer a 10% discount on our fees to supporters of the Isabel Hospice.

Volunteering

About 18 months ago, a request came from our nursing staff at the In-Patient Unit for some volunteers with a particular set of skills to help care for our patients.

Nurse Helpers – you make all the difference!

If you would like to find out more about volunteering at Isabel Hospice, give Jane Hollowday or Glynis Cracknell a ring on 01707 382500.

We are currently in need of drivers in the Bishops's Stortford area to take and bring home patients from our Day Care Service at the Barnabas Centre in Thorley. However, we have lots of opportunities throughout our many service areas in patient care, administration, in our shops and in fundraising. It’s a lovely way to make new friends and do something worthwhile for your local community. Full training is given.

We needed volunteers who had nursing or care background to assist and work alongside our nursing staff as a Nurse Helper.

Claire Gratton started volunteering in this role in February 2011, and explains how and why she gives up her time, once a week to do it.

“When I moved into the area I was no longer working, and I decided to do voluntary work for a local charity. A friend told me about Isabel Hospice and I signed up to their induction and training programme. My background is in gynecological and fertility nursing, but I have also done a bit of GP nursing, school nursing and taught PSHE in schools.

I was looking for volunteering that would take me back to my roots, and I absolutely love my time at the In-Patient Unit. As a Nurse Helper I work alongside the staff there, and there is a real team feeling and a great social aspect to my morning. I do complete basic nursing care: bed baths, feeding,

washing and personal care. It’s great to get back to basics. I have been a sister of a ward and had my career in the NHS but this is so satisfying.

One of the things I love about the Hospice is that there are no time limits on the care I give patients and their families. I can take all the time the patient needs to carry out the care. No one is looking over your shoulder looking at their watch as we are time rich as a volunteer at the Hospice.

Patients as they near the end of their life are quite often dealing with lots of emotional and psychological issues. They are closing things down in their mind, putting their affairs straight and need time to talk. I can be there for that, chat through worries and spend real quality time with them.

I have come from nursing where I specialised in the beginning of life, but I really love my time with the dying. It is a real privilege and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Roy Powell (74) from Bishop’s Stortford has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has had two heart attacks. ‘I was on holiday in Butlins and the family had gone to watch the wrestling but I wasn’t that bothered so I stayed in the chalet. I didn’t feel well and the next thing I knew, I woke up in hospital having had a heart attack. Whilst they were treating that, they found a shadow on my lung, and I was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Since then, I have had another heart attack and am being cared for by the Hospice Services.

I would give the Hospice the world if I could

This isn’t the life I thought I was going to have, it is a second kind of life but it’s a good one, now I have Shirley by my side. I met her when I was 13 when I played football with her brother back in my home town of Wrexham. She was in a children’s home and as we got older we lost touch. We both married other people, and life moved on. By the time I lost my second wife to cancer (she too was cared for by a hospice), I had worked at lots of jobs. I had spent four years in the RAF which was brilliant; I had also worked on the beer wagons, in a launderette and had been a taxi driver. Whilst working in a tyre factory I had an accident, and wasn’t able to drive any more. One day I was sitting having a coffee in a café in

Wrexham meat market when an old friend walked by. We chatted and she told me she was in touch with Shirley, whose husband had died from cancer, so she was single again.

I came to visit Shirley in Bishop’s Stortford for a week’s holiday, and never went back to Wrexham. I have been with Shirley for 7 years and got married 5 years ago. My time in the RAF and now are the best years of my life.

The care I have had from the Hospice and the Princess Alexandra Hospital Stroke Unit have been marvelous. I have talked with Sharon Watkins, my Isabel Hospice nurse who visits me at home, and decided if I have another heart attack I don’t want to be resuscitated. I have a plaque on the front door so the ambulance crews know that, and a ‘message in a bottle’ in the fridge which says the same thing. Sharon visits whenever I need help with controlling my symptoms, she chats to me and has arranged for me to visit the Day Hospice at the Barnabas Centre in Thorley where I have had reflexology which was wonderful. I get picked up from home by a Hospice volunteer, Malcolm, and driven there and back. That gives Shirley a bit of a break from me!

I get a bit panicky when Shirley goes out, so another Hospice volunteer, Steve, comes and sits with me and we chat and

have a cup of tea. He took me back to the Stroke Unit at the hospital too, so I could give the nurses a tin of biscuits for looking after me recently.

I know it sounds corny, but if I could, I would give everyone who has looked after me the world.

When you sign up for this popular fundraiser, you will be taking part in a Sunday morning walk with a pub lunch. There are 17 simultaneous walks to choose from across eastern Hertfordshire, ranging from 5 to 20 miles in distance.

All are circular, with a stop for lunch at a local pub, led by an experienced leader. To find out more, call Maria Alexander on 01707 382500.

This isn’t the life I thought I was going to have, it is a second kind of life but it’s a good one, now I have Shirley by my side.

Charlotte donated the money to the Hospice in memory of her grandad. Charlotte hopes to have a career in catering, so good luck and thanks for her altruistic actions!

THANK YOU to Mr & Mrs Graham Lale from The Foresters Charity Stewards UK Trust for their generous donation of £200.

THANK YOU to St Josephs Catholic Primary School for the donation they made following a sponsored bounce in memory of Igor Bogdanowicz’s dad (year 2, left of photo).

THANK YOU to Hatfield Rotary and all the volunteers who are cleaning the Olympic Village to raise funds for Isabel Hospice.

Are you harbouring any publicity or fundraising items from lsabel Hospice like long plastic banners, pull up advertising banners or yellow collection cans, buckets or hi viz waistcoats in the back of the cupboard or in your car boot or shed? Maybe you packed it away after you did an event for us and forgot about them? If you have anything like that, we would like it back so we can save money by not having to buy more. Drop it in to your nearest Isabel hospice charity shop. No questions asked! Thank you!

Thank you to all our marathon runners, both London Marathon and other events around the world! We had 16 London Marathon runners this year, including Paul Winspear, editor of the Herts & Essex Observer, and veteran runners Eleanor and Dennis Draper who have each run 22 London marathons. Amazingly Dennis had a hip replacement only a few months ago. The ballot for the 2013 London Marathon opened on 30 April. Did you get a place? If so, please consider running for us.

Also we still have places in Run To The Beat on 28th October (note the date change) and The Great North Run. If you would like to run in aid of the Hospice, give Maria Alexander a ring on 01707 382500 or fill in the expression of interest form on page 19.

We forgive you!

"We were all so excited when they stayed to hear us sing most of our repertoire! Kim cried with emotion when we sang some of the songs (no, not because we were so awful, I hope!). They commented that they loved the way we sang and moved, and we all looked so happy. Hal is an accomplished singer, and he sang to us in our own acappella style. We all listened in awe at his amazing voice. Kim spoke about the show she had been performing in during December, with such famous groups as Status Quo and Roy Wood/Wizzard. Kim and Hal posed with us for photos, and chatted before they left. They are such a lovely couple, and we feel so honoured that they came to see us." JUNE WRIGHT PRO – WELWYN HARMONY CHORUS

Welwyn Harmony Chorus put on a Variety Show to raise money for Isabel Hospice. They were delighted to learn that Kim Wilde, a Hospice patron and her partner, Hal Fowler wanted to know more about them.

Regular Giving is precious to us

A Regular Gift

To provide this service annually costs £4.5 million. Of this £3 million must be raised from charitable sources. To achieve this we rely heavily on the generosity of our supporters.

By making a regular donation you can help us to be there for more people who need our care and support. This also means we can plan for the future with greater confidence. Ensuring the security of the Hospice means we will be there for future generations.

Your Regular Gift will enable us to continue to help those living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

‘Thank you’
