Financial Rollover Mrs Richardson has the complex task of completing the school Financial Rollover starting this week. I would like to publicly thank her for the high standard of her work as well as the outstanding quality of handling day to day issues in such a professional and effective manner. We are so fortunate to have both her and Tracy Lucas as our first ports of call for parents as nothing is ever too much trouble and things are dealt with calmly and warmly. Mobile Phones These should be left at home. If for some reason parents need to be called we can do this using school phones. Our school cannot take responsibility if they are damaged, stolen or lost. They are to be handed in to the front office and collected in the afternoon if they are absolutely necessary for a particular day. Leavers / New Enrolments /Classes for 2014 We soon begin planning for staffing and classes for next year before informing the DEC of our numbers. It certainly helps to have our numbers as accurate as possible. Please notify your child’s teacher or the school Administration Office if your child will not be attending Lakelands next year. Also if you are aware of any new enrolments for next year please let us know. Talent Quest The Lakelands Talent Quest is being held on Tuesday, 17 December in the School Hall. Children from all classes and ages are being asked to audition. We are aiming for at least three to four acts from each class, primary can have more. Please encourage as many children as possible to ‘have a go’. Infants may wish to make it a ‘class item’, maybe even a song from the Junior Choir? Some ideas for acts can be singing, dancing, magic acts, poetry, comedy routine, telling jokes (must be appropriate) playing an instrument, a short play, A Christmas Story….anything at all, (no fighting acts) be creative!! Children in acts do not have to be in the same class or age group. Brothers and sisters may wish to do something together. Practice must be in the children’s own time at home or in the playground at recess and lunch times. They can use a classroom if supervised by a teacher. The TALENT QUEST will begin at 9.30am and continue until it concludes. We will go out for recess then come back to the hall and continue the acts.

Please Note: Our talent quest is for children at Lakelands only and space considerations don’t allow us to invite parents along. It is a great experience for children to perform on stage and have a few minutes of fame. A time to dress up and have FUN !! SRC Fundraiser Congratulations to all children and teachers who participated in the fundraiser for the fire affected Winmalee Public School. The magnificent amount of $436.40 will be sent off this week. I am sure this generosity will be gratefully accepted. Hamish Anderson in 2R deserves special mention as he brought in over $20 to donate. Well done everyone!

Raffle Tickets A big thank you for the wonderful response to the P&C Raffle so far. Don't forget tickets are due in by Tuesday 3 Dec. If you are unable to sell your tickets could you please return unsold tickets to the Office Administration so they can be re-issued, we thank you for your help in this matter. Don't forget our wonderful 1st prize a $300 WISHCARD, wouldn't that be nice for Christmas. Good luck everybody. P&C Dinner All 2013 financial P&C members are invited to the end of year dinner. This year it will be held at FABRICE in Dapto on Thursday 12 Dec at 6:30pm. If you would like to come please call or message Shannon on 0416138306 so we can book in numbers.

Headlice There has been an outbreak of head lice at our school once again, and your child may have contracted the condition. We are asking that all parents examine their child’s hair for signs of lice infestation. The lice themselves are often hard to find because they move around the head. Therefore, you should be looking for eggss. These appear as tiny silvery white specks

attached to the hair shaft near the scalp. Dandruff and hairspray may look similar but these are easily brushed away, the eggs are not. Other signs of lice infestation may be a red rash and scratch marks on the scalp, nape of the neck or behind the ears. Please examine your child very carefully and regularly. If your child has contracted head lice do not be alarmed. Although the condition is unpleasant, it is easily treated with a specialised treatment which is available from your local chemist. It is important that after using such a preparation as directed, considerable care and time should then be taken to comb the hair with a fine tooth comb to remove all the dead eggs and lice. However, for complete treatment, the product needs to be reapplied after 7days. While the hair is still damp comb it a few strands at a time outwards from the scalp, with a fine-toothed metal comb until the nits are removed. Most preparations will not remove the nits from the hair. They can only be removed by combing. However the nits may come out more readily if the hair is dabbed with vinegar before combing. Clothing, hats, towels, pillowslips, combs and other articles that may be contaminated should be dry cleaned or washed (using the hot water cycle of a washing machine) to help prevent the problem recurring.

Wash the whole family’s brushes and combs in hot soapy water and afterwards dry them in the sun. As head lice are highly contagious it is suggested that you examine and treat all members of the family at the same time.

    Week 8 – Attendance Challenge
