It has helped save lives in many countries and helped women and girls across the world fulfil their potential. None of this would be possible without you so thank you.

1. Ecuador In April last year, a massive earthquake rocked Ecuador, leaving an estimated 720,000 people in need of assistance. Thousands of people were left homeless but with your help, CARE was there to provide life- saving emergency support, including hygiene kits, mosquito nets and mattresses.

Your support is invaluable to the work we do around the world. Thanks to you, we save lives in emergencies, and help communities rebuild safer and stronger for the future. And thanks to you, we tackle the underlying causes of poverty, providing people with the skills they need to change their lives for good. Without your support, none of this would be possible.

CARE around the world

3. Zambia We’re constantly seeking new ways to bring sustainable improvements to people’s lives. In Zambia, working with our private sector partners GSK and Barclays, we’ve launched a new social enterprise that trains people to provide health advice and products to rural communities. In addition to providing access to vital health support for people in remote regions, Live Well will create jobs for 7,000 Community Health Entrepreneurs.

2. Niger In 1991, CARE set up its fi rst Village Savings and Loan Association in Niger. 25 years later, we’ve supported 200,000 VSLAs in 35 countries. It’s brought lasting change to communities like Kagadama, where generations of women – like Aboubaca, member of one of the fi rst VSLAs, and her grand-daughter Nana (left) – have been empowered to save money, earn an income, and help their children get an education.

nHelping refugees stuck in Serbia

Supporting families in South Sudan

Many refugees fleeing Syria harbour hopes of reuniting with family in Europe. However, the journeys they make are exhausting and often fraught with danger. Families leave with next to nothing and are forced to spend all their money in the hope of reaching safety. With numerous blocked routes and closed borders, many refugees find themselves stuck in Serbia.

Dana, a Syrian refugee and mother says ‘In Syria, you can die one day from a bomb but on this journey you die every day.’ Dana and her two young sons faced a gruelling 1,700 mile journey from their home town in Al Bab, Syria to reach Europe.

When they finally reached Serbia, they stopped at a refugee camp in Preševo that CARE helps run where they were able to rest and receive hot meals.

Since conflict began in the world’s youngest country more than two years ago, over 2 million people have been displaced and even more people are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance, with food and water hard to come by. But thankfully, with your help, we have teams on the ground responding in some of the most conflict-affected and hardest-to-reach areas of South

Sudan including Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile states.

Five-year-old Chianyal’s family fled their home in Koch county when fighting reached their village and they ran out of food. Although she is only five, Chianyal helps to look after her younger sister Nyanen who is currently on CARE’s feeding programme for severe malnutrition.

Keeping children safe and enabling them to receive an education in GhanaMany children in remote parts of Ghana don’t attend school because the risks of making the long journey to the nearest school are far too great. The long journeys put young girls and boys at the real risk of dehydration and even animal attack. However, with your support, we’ve been able to help provide children with safe places to learn in their local communities. You’ve helped give children the

chance to learn in safety and begin to fulfil their potential.

Having a debilitating disease, Fifi used to risk her life every time she embarked on the long walk to her closest school. However, with the help of supporters like you, Fifi is now safe and able to attend a school that was set up in her local community. “Learning makes me happy,” said Fifi.
