EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

With the creation of a new Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre (ACIC) at St Vincent’s Health Australia operating under the auspices of the Cardiology Department, an exciting opportunity exists for dynamic, goal-oriented and experienced Cardiac Radiographers. Four positions are available:

• Chief Cardiac Radiographer• 2x Senior Radiographers• 1x Radiographer

St Vincent’s Health Australia is an internationally- recognised leader in the provision of clinical, research and education and is Australia’s largest provider of not-for-profit services in the health and aged care sectors. The Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre, due to open shortly, will provide patients with the fastest, least invasive and most accurate assessment of most heart conditions and will be used for world-class research.

The Chief Cardiac Radiographer will play a major role in the ACIC leadership team in the commissioning and operation of this new facility. The successful applicant will have significant experience in the management of a multi-modality imaging department with specific skills in Cardiac CT and MRI.

The Chief Cardiac Radiographer will establish and manage the ongoing operations and staffing of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre (ACIC). The position will be the lead practitioner for both CT and MRI modalities in this state-of-the-art cardiac imaging facility and will also be responsible for monitoring and achieving clinical and corporate KPIs, service demand and revenue targets.

The Chief Cardiac Radiographer will coordinate the research agenda of the ACIC in partnership with the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, the Cardiology Department and St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney’s Executive.

The Senior Cardiac Radiographers will have expertise in either CT or MRI, preferably in cardiac imaging.

Chief Cardiac RadiographerPOSITION PURPOSE

The Chief Cardiac Radiographer will establish and manage the ongoing operations and staff establishment of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre (ACIC) at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. The Senior Radiographer will be also be the lead practitioner in a state-of-the-art cardiac imaging facility.

Managing a small team of radiographers and administrative staff, the position will monitor clinical and corporate KPIs to meet the service demand and revenue targets of the ACIC in addition to ensuring corporate efficiency and quality.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Cardiac Radiographer is expected to

• Manage and participate in the delivery of clinical care to patients attending the ACIC across both MRIand CT modalities.

• Manage the performance of the ACIC to ensure business and clinical KPIs are met.• Establish, implement and monitor quality and safety systems within the ACIC.• Coordinate the research agenda of the ACIC in partnership with the Victor Chang Cardiac Research

Institute, Cardiology Department, NSW Ministry of Health and St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Executive.• Management of non-medical staff working in the ACIC.• Develop and implement policies, procedures and educational materials to establish and govern the

ACIC.• Work with key internal and external stakeholders to establish and commission the ACIC.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Potential candidates for the role of Chief Cardiac Radiographer are expected to possess

• Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of MaryAikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.

• Demonstrated expertise in at least two imaging modalities, specifically CT and MRI and experience inthe management of a multimodality imaging department.

QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must hold:

• Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Diagnostic Radiography) and/or Bachelor of Applied Science(Medical Radiation Science) - (Diagnostic Radiography) and/or successful completion of a DiagnosticRadiography course recognised by the employer and the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia(MRPB).

• Accreditation by the Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR). From 1 July 2012, must hold registrationwith the MRPB and have a valid EPA Radiation Licence.

2x Senior RadiographersPOSITION PURPOSE

The Senior Radiographer will lead the operations for radiography tasks in cardiac CT and/or cardiac MRI within the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre (ACIC) at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney (SVHS) under the direction of the Chief Cardiac Radiographer. The Senior Radiographer will be also responsible for developing the Cardiac MRI and Cardiac CT services for outpatients and inpatients of SVHS providing research scans.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Radiographer is expected to

• Leading the operations of the cardiac MRI Suite and/or the Cardiac CT Suite independently within theACIC, under the Chief Cardiac Radiographer.

• Allocation and supervision of staff to ensure staff and resources are used with maximum efficiencyand effectiveness.

• Assisting the Chief Cardiac Radiographer in the provision of safety and training within the section andthe development and implementation of safety protocols around MRI and CT

• Commit to all on-site and off-site training deemed necessary by the Chief Cardiac Radiographer• Work within the multi-disciplinary team in ACIC and the Heart Lung Stream more broadly to ensure

ACIC complements and enables a strong cardiovascular service at SVHS.• Maintain strong clinical and corporate records relating to the activities of the ACIC.

1x RadiographerPOSITION PURPOSE

The Radiographer will provide radiography tasks in cardiac CT and cardiac MRI within the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre (ACIC) at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Ltd. (SVHS) under the direction of the Chief Cardiac Radiographer.

attainment of proficiency in the operation of the ACIC cardiac CT and cardiac MRI scanners• Maintain strong clinical and corporate records relating to the activities of the ACIC.• Supervise and be responsible for other MRS’ (Diagnostic Radiographers) and undergraduate students

as required.• Participate in teaching programs within and/or outside SVHS.• Contribute to the development of safety protocols around cardiac CT and cardiac MRI to ensure the

ACIC operates in a safe and patient-centred way.• Work within the multi-disciplinary team in ACIC and the Heart Lung Stream more broadly to ensure

ACIC complements and enables a strong cardiovascular service at St Vincent’s Hospital and acrossNSW.

POSITION PURPOSE The purpose of this position is to establish and manage the ongoing operations and staff establishment of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre (ACIC) at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. As the Senior Radiographer you will be the lead practitioner in a state-of-the-art cardiac imaging service reporting directly to the Clinical Director, Heart & Lung. Initially the position will be responsible for developing operating models for CT and MRI modalities along with other change management and commissioning activities associated with the establishment of the new service. POSITION DUTIES

Manage and participate in the delivery of clinical care to patients attending the ACIC across both MRI and CT modalities.

Manage the performance of the ACIC to ensure business and clinical KPIs are met.

Establish, implement and monitor quality and safety systems within the ACIC.

Coordinate the research agenda of the ACIC in partnership with the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, Cardiology Department, NSW Ministry of Health and St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Executive.

Management of non-medical staff working in the ACIC.

Develop and implement policies, procedures and educational materials to establish and govern the ACIC.

Work with key internal and external stakeholders to establish and commission the ACIC.

Work with external organisations to maintain the asset held by the ACIC.

Manage the ACIC costs code and associated expenses including the staff establishment.

Work with the St Vincent’s Hospital Radiology Department to establish and maintain shared arrangements.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Diagnostic Radiography) and/or Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Radiation Science) - (Diagnostic Radiography) and/or successful completion of a Diagnostic Radiography course recognised by the employer and the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPB).

Accreditation by the Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR). From 1 July 2012, must hold registration with the MRPB and have a valid EPA Radiation Licence.

Demonstrated expertise in at least 2 imaging modalities and experience in the management of a multimodality imaging department.

Demonstrated experience in the establishment of clinical protocols, clinical reviews, manuals, quality assurance and departmental continuous quality improvement activities and ability to uphold quality clinical service.

Demonstrated experience in management including; operations, finance, human resources, WH&S.

Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to negotiate and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to supervise and assist with the on-going education and training of MRS’ staff across modalities, including complex clinical procedure and ability to manage and instruct other health workers appropriate to the section.

Reporting to the Chief Cardiac Radiographer, the position will be responsible for developing the Cardiac MRI and Cardiac CT services for outpatients and inpatients of SVHS providing research scans. The position will be responsible for working with the Chief Cardiac Radiographer to ensure the service maintains a safe model of service delivery, as well as providing education to other medical radiation scientists, medical practitioners, and nursing staff.

POSITION DUTIES

• Leading the operations of the cardiac MRI Suite and/or the Cardiac CT Suite independently within the ACIC, under the Chief Cardiac Radiographer. This includes; associated administrative duties, leadership/supervision of staff, safety, patient throughput, patient care, patient scheduling, immediate staffing, education and training, equipment maintenance scheduling, quality assurance activities and maintenance of standards.

• Allocation and supervision of staff to ensure staff and resources are used with maximum efficiency and effectiveness.

• Assisting the Chief Cardiac Radiographer in the provision of safety and training within the section and the development and implementation of safety protocols around MRI and CT to ensure the ACIC operates in safe and patient-centred way.

• Commit to all on-site and off-site training deemed necessary by the Chief Cardiac Radiographer to the attainment of proficiency in the operation of the ACIC cardiac CT scanner and cardiac MRI scanner, sufficient to operate the ACIC cardiac CT scanner and cardiac MRI scanner independently and to a high standard.

• Work within the multi-disciplinary team in ACIC and the Heart Lung Stream more broadly to ensure ACIC complements and enables a strong cardiovascular service at SVHS.

• Maintain strong clinical and corporate records relating to the activities of the ACIC. • Contribute to the triaging and safety-checking of patients referred through to ACIC to

ensure patients who do not meet inclusion criteria are appropriately managed and patients who do meet criteria access the service in an appropriate timeframe.

• Contribute to the research agenda of the ACIC through conducting scans and participating in research meetings and projects as appropriate.

• Maintain MRI and CT equipment and associated technologies to ensure longevity and safety of equipment in the ACIC.

• Provide education, training and mentorship to other staff in the use of MRI and/or CT technology, including staff external to ACIC.

• Assist patients to mobilise and undertake basic activities as required.

POSITION DUTIES

• Execute radiography tasks associated with a high turnover cardiac CT and cardiac MRI program.

• Commit to all on-site and/or off-site training deemed necessary by the Chief Radiographer to the attainment of proficiency in the operation of the ACIC cardiac CT and cardiac MRI scanners, sufficient to operate the ACIC cardiac CT and MRI scanners independently and to a high standard.

• Maintain strong clinical and corporate records relating to the activities of the ACIC. • Supervise and be responsible for other MRS’ (Diagnostic Radiographers) and

undergraduate students as required. • Participate in teaching programs within and/or outside SVHS. • Contribute to the development of safety protocols around cardiac CT and cardiac MRI

to ensure the ACIC operates in a safe and patient-centred way. This includes participation in radiation safety activities across St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.

• Work within the multi-disciplinary team in ACIC and the Heart Lung Stream more broadly to ensure ACIC complements and enables a strong cardiovascular service at St Vincent’s Hospital and across NSW.

• Contribute to the triaging and safety-checking of patients referred through to ACIC to ensure patients who do not meet inclusion criteria are appropriately managed and patients who do meet criteria access the service in an appropriate timeframe.

• Contribute to the research agenda of the ACIC through conducting scans and participating in research meetings and projects as appropriate.

• Maintain CT and MRI equipment and associated technologies to ensure longevity and safety of equipment in the ACIC.

• Escalates concerns around safety and quality to multidisciplinary team as appropriate. • Assist patients to mobilise and undertake basic activities as required. • Contribute to the administrative workload of the ACIC when required.

• Ensure compliance across all relevant standards of accreditation and legislative requirements within areas of responsibility or as delegated by the CEO, St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.

• Ensure facilities operate at all times in compliance with the Catholic Health Australia Code of Ethical Standards for Catholic Health and Aged Care Services in Australia and relevant legislation.

• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and industrial instruments. • Operate within the delegated responsibilities and authorities as set by St Vincent’s

Health Australia • Ensure relevant personal qualification, registrations and memberships are maintained

at the required level. • Ensure that employees are compliant with mandatory training requirements. • Current immunity status that complies with the Occupational Assessment, Screening &

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.

• Bachelor of Science (Diagnostic Radiography) or equivalent and current registration with AHPRA as a Diagnostic Radiographer and a current NSW EPA Radiation License.

• Previous clinical experience in CT and/or MRI in a busy medical imaging environment and/or experience in cardiac CT and/or cardiac MRI.

• A commitment to on-site and/or off-site training in cardiac CT and/or cardiac MRI, if necessary, is essential. Proven capacity to develop practice capabilities and adapt to new processes and technologies.

• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. • Proven aptitude in complex problem solving and decision making within a best-practice

and evidence-based framework. • Ability to supervise ability to supervise and assist with the on-going education and

training of MRS’ colleagues, across modalities. • Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills.
