UNIT WITH

4D TEE PROBEEchocardiograms help our health care team make important assessments about a patient’s heart function. From the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to departments throughout our hospital, the echocardiography unit is a critical diagnostic and monitoring tool for patients of all ages.

Our current unit has reached the end of its life cycle and urgently needs to be replaced with advanced technology, including a special 4D tee probe that lets our team see real-time renderings of the heart. Your support will ensure that North York General has the next generation of advanced imaging tools.

1 needed at $285,600

When investigating patients for strokes, our team uses an electroencephalogram (EEG) test that helps view and interpret the brain’s electrical signals. It takes an additional set of electrodes called a ‘headbox’ to record a patient’s brainwaves. Your support will help bring a new electrode headbox to our Critical Care, Stroke and Paediatrics team, so they can diagnose and asses patients quickly, to make life-saving treatment plans.

STRESS TEST

SYSTEM UNIT

2 needed at $47,040 each

Cardiac stress tests use treadmills and monitoring systems to measure the heart’s ability to respond to exercise-induced stress, helping our health care team diagnose cardiac conditions.

At 13 years old, our current stress test systems need frequent service and repairs. Your support will help bring two new treadmill systems to our hospital, meaning that patients can get the answers they need to maintain their heart health, and a quicker start to treatment.

Nuclear cardiology studies use dedicated workstations with specialized software to assess blood flow, evaluate the heart and visualize the size and location of a heart attack. Our entire fleet of workstations are at the end of their life cycle and must be replaced immediately to avoid down time.

Your investment in nuclear cardiology will help bring state-of-the-art workstations with increased processing power and advanced imaging.

ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

DEFIBRILLATORS

Echocardiogram (ECG)

MACHINESEvery patient who comes through our emergency room doors with cardiac issues, from simple palpitations to arrest or arrhythmia, needs an ECG — a diagnostic test that helps visualize the heart. An ECG is most often performed immediately after a patient is triaged and is a critical part of identifying those in need of urgent treatment. Our current ECG machines are at the end of their life spans and must be replaced.

Defibrillators save lives during cardiac distress by shocking the heart back into a normal rhythm. Our current machines are aging and need to be replaced to ensure that our health care team can continue to provide life-saving care when every second counts.

TEE

PROBETransesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a test that uses high-frequency sound waves to make a detailed picture of a patient’s heart when a physician wants to see more information than a standard echocardiogram can give. Our current TEE probe has reached the end of its life cycle and has to be repaired often, meaning that patients are forced to either wait for testing or travel to other hospitals. Your donation toward a new TEE probe means that we will offer timely procedures to patients in our community.

Computerized tomography (CT) scanning is a powerful tool that takes a series of x-ray images from different angles. Technicians rely on post-processing technology to combine these images into an integrated visual of a patient’s body.

With your help, we will upgrade our existing system to improve visualization on bone scans and allow us to take complicated cardiac scans that are not currently possible.
