your GROWNUP

DOtryto make time for your Grownups even if youre a bit busy and they dont know

ANYTHING about Trains.

DONTforgetGrownupsare Really OLD. If they dont understand something, just say it over

and over and over again, UNTIL THEY DO.

DOyour best tomake GOING TO THE SHOPS less boringplay hide and seek, pretend

youre BURSTING to Go to the Loo, or climb into the window display.

DONTforget, the best time to talk to Grownups about VERY IMPORTANT STUFF is when

theyre reversing the car or talking on the phone.

DO give your Grownups a bit of responsibility by letting them MUCK OUT your Guinea Pigs.

DONT EVER let Grownups sit down during the day otherwise they wont feel tired at bedtime.

DOkeep Grownups away from The Newspaper - unless they are going to use it to light a FIRE!

DONT let Grownups sit on your swing or bounce on your trampoline - theyre Too FAT and itwill probably end in tears.

DO remember that your Grownup is not just for CHRISTMAS or BIRTHDAYS. Look after

your Grownups carefully and they will be good for stories, swings and shoulder-rides ALL THE

YEAR ROUND!

Erwin Schroedinger was a brilliant Austrian scientist who was probably

over fond of dogs.

When he wasnt throwing sticks or tickling their tummies he spent his time

working on Quantum Theory. This is so difficult to understand that it can ma

your head explode. In Erwins case such mental anguish may have been partresponsible for his infamous cat experiment.

Schroedinger was trying to demonstrate one of the paradoxes of Quantum

Physics: which is that sub-atomic particles can defy the normal laws of Scien

and be in two places at the same time.

So one rainy day in 1935, Erwin lured a cat into his laboratory with a sardin

tied to a long piece of string. Then he grabbed the unfortunate cat and locked

into a box together with a bottle of poison gas and a Geiger counter.

The Geiger counter was set up so that as soon as it detected the decay of a

radioactive atom it broke open the bottle and released the deadlygasWas little kitty dead or alive?

Well most sensible people would have ticked the dead box, called the RSPCA

and written a strongly worded letter to their MP. BUT according to Erwin th

have been wrong. In Quantum World until someone actually opened the boxand looked inside, the state of the cat would be unresolved. It would be

neither dead nor alive but a mixture of bothunlike Schroedinger who is nodefinitely dead.
