MASSTOWN: The message is simply a giant THANKYOU carved out of the cornfield but the thoughts of appreciation behind these words is responders. This year’s Captain Cob’s Corn Maze is all about paying tribute to those men and women who put their lives in community. Since fire fighters and first responders are often volunteers, their commitment has been represented in the cornfield as the fire battling flames. “We have several employees who belong to local Brigades, including my brother Wade, and my father Eric is tribute to these dedicated volunteers is our small way to show appreciation,” says Laurie Jennings, of Masstown Market. The Market has partnered with Harvest for Hunger NS to plant a corn maze for the last few years and this joint effort continues. There will be a fund raising picnic for H4HNS on August 28 . Appreciation Day will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7 th from 11- 4PM. Local brigades have been invited to bring some of their trucks and equipment for a display, there will be a charity BBQ and a fire fighters challenge. If the weather co-operates there may even be a giant slippy slide for the kids. Fire fighters/first responders and their complimentary access to Captain Cob’s Corn Maze for the day. The general public is welcome to join in the fun and come show their support . Captain Cob’s Corn Maze is currently open 7 days a week from 10:30AM until 6:30PM, with $1 from each admission donated to H4HNS. Members of the Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade made a lot of children happy with a giant slippy slide at Captain Cob’s Corn Maze & Fun Farm last year. Sunday, August 7 will be Fire Fighters Appreciation Day and the slide may return! Hunger Picnic will take place on Sunday, August 28 . Admission is by donation with all funds going to the H4HNS. This is always a family fun event, with horse and wagon rides through the maze, lots of corn on the cob, sausage on a bun, yummy wild blueberry shortcake and ice cream.
