PROBLEM STATEMENT

November 29, 2013 4Capstone

To propose a cross layer rate adaptive technique

for video transmission in multi-channel multi-radio

wireless mesh networks based on a new routing metric

and evaluate the quality of transmission with real-time

video traces.

MODULES

November 29, 2013 6Capstone

• Module 1:

To scale–up the existing OLSR routing protocol in NS-2 to

incorporate support for Multiple Interfaces.

• Module 2:

To propose a new Routing metric for multi channel multi

radio wireless mesh networks.

• Module 3:

To incorporate Rate Adaptive Transmission in the current

NS-2 framework.

• Module 4:

To evaluate the performance of video transmission using

EvalVid for the above mentioned cross-layer optimization.

ROUTING METRIC FORMULA

November 29, 2013 7Capstone

• The Existing Metric:

𝑀𝐼𝐿𝐷 =1

𝐶𝑛𝐶𝑊𝑎𝑣𝑔 + 𝐸𝑇𝑇 × 𝑁𝑙

Where,

Cn is Channel Utilization

CWavg is Average Contention Window on link

Nl is the interfering link count for node n.

• The Modified Metric:

𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑀𝐼𝐿𝐷 =1

𝐶𝑛𝐶𝑊𝑎𝑣𝑔 + 𝐸𝑇𝑇 × 𝐼𝑅

Where,

Cn is Channel Utilization

CWavg is Average Contention Window on link

IR is the interference ratio.
