PUBLIC FORUM DEBATE:Grades: Rising 9th to 12thAdvanced argumentation skills in the following areas: Case Criteria Development, Delivery, Issue Selection, Summary and Final Focus Writing, Refutation, Case Construction, Brief Writing, Evidence Analysis, and Research.Lead Instructor: Bob Dolan, Director of Debate at Lake Mary Preparatory School, Lake Mary FL

POLICY DEBATE:Grades: Rising 8th to 12thStudents learn theories and strategies in the following areas: Affirmative Cases, Rebuttal Strategies, Disadvantages, Counter-Plans, Critiques, Topicality, and Theory. Lead Instructor: Anthony Johnson, Assistant Director of Forensics at Southwestern College, Chula Vista CA

LINCOLN-DOUGLAS DEBATE:Grades: Rising 9th to 12thProvides a healthy background in a diverse array of arguments and case structures, ranging from traditional value-criterion cases to progressive debate arguments, such as counterplans, criticisms, metaethics, and theory.Lead Instructor: Travis Cochran, Capitol Debate Coach

COMMUNICATION, LAW, & DEBATE:Grades: Rising 9th to 12thTeaches high school students the fundamentals of argument, enabling them to develop core skills that boost confidence, build self-esteem, and will aid them on their debate, model United Nations team, mock trial, or speech team.Lead Instructor: Jane Boyd, Director of Forensics at Grapevine High School, Grapevine TX

MIDDLE SCHOOL DEBATE:Grades: Rising 6th to 9thEquips children to structure arguments, prepare debate cases, research evidence, write rebuttal briefs, deliver speeches, and refute opponents.Lead Instructor: Jay Rye, Director of Forensics at Montgomery Academy, Montgomery AL

CREATIVE WRITING:Grades: Rising 8th to 12thLearn tried and true techniques while still developing your own voice and style. Students will study the works of great authors, past and present, learn stylistic literary methods, and begin composing their own works.Lead Instructor: Sydney Brown, English & Creative Writing Professor at Grossmont College, San Diego CA

IMPROV:Grades: Rising 6th to 12thLearn fundamentals of improvisational comedy, character and scene development, self-confidence, thinking on your feet and the experience of planning and putting on a full performance. The mission of our program is to encourage and nurture our students’ creativity, connectedness, confidence and curiosity.Lead Instructor: Gary Kramer, Artistic Director at National Comedy Theater, San Diego CA

BROADCAST JOURNALISM:Grades: Rising 8th to 12thStudents learn the techniques needed to succeed in high school broadcast journalism, sports journalism, and live reporting. Our curriculum equips students for researching and writing stories, presenting, interviewing, editing, and producing.Lead Instructor: K. Tim Wulfemeyer, Journalism & Media Studies Professor at San Diego State University, San Diego CA

EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING:Grades: Rising 9th to 12thExtemporaneous speaking is different from public speaking because the speaker has limited time, limited research, and little previous knowledge of the topic. Students will learn to prepare effectively for an extemporaneous speech, including how to research and analyze current issues, events, and complicated interrelationships. They will learn to engage their audience with public speaking skills and delivery skills, like vocal variety, word color, and use of imagery.
