Welcome to the squadron to all of our new members, both cadets and seniors. Please consult with your mentor to answer any questions you may have about CAP. Please ask questions and inquire to learn all you can about our program here at Cape May County Composite Squad- ron. We have a wonderful staff put in place, use their knowledge and experience to help you along in your transition into CAP. There is a lot to learn at first, but the more you put yourself into the program, the more you will get out o f it. This program can be very fulfill- ing and challenging. Our Aerospace Educa- tion program is running at full speed now, thanks to 2Lt Williams. We are start- ing our Model Rocketry module and there is a good deal of pre-testing and classes we must finish be- fore we can start to build our rockets. Please be pa- tient and learn as much as you can from 2Lt. Williams, and this will turn out to be a fun and exciting module to work. Our Cadet Program is working quite nicely, and with the help of the entire senior staff, a lot of cadets are now passing their tests- some are advancing at a fu- rious pace. I would like to see more cadets step up to the plate and challenge themselves to promote at least quarterly. This is not an unreasonable goal. Make 1 goal for yourself this quarter, to promote! Our Emergency Services program is going through some changes as well. We must now meet Federal Training Standards, which all the Federal Agencies have already completed, so we are playing catch up to meet their level of training. This is key to working with other State and Federal agencies. So t ake the time to complete the NIMS train- ing and GES training. There will be a Search and Rescue

training exercise coming up in a cou-ple of months, this should give youplenty of time to complete the mini-mum requirements to come out withus and train as a team. We are plan-ning a Unit K-9 Team, conducted bySM Akeret who is also a member ofM.A.R.S.A.R. (Mid-Atlantic RegionSearch and Rescue Association). You need to be GES Trained in orderto participate in this training.

During this winter season, we areplanning to change some areasaround at the squadron to better ac-commodate the use of our space wehave at the squadron. Some of theareas that will be affected are Supply,Cadet Staff Area, and our Pilots.Look for more information to come.

A Note From the Cadet Staff

This last month has had a lot ofopportunities. As we move through thebeginning of the year, there will be manychanges that will take place in thesquadron. The cadet staff will need eve-ryone's participation to make Cape MayCounty Composite Squadron, the best itcan be. We have many things plannedfor this year, but any suggestions youmay have, are appreciated. We can’tchange things in our squadron unless

we hear from the cadets. There are alsoimprovements that need to be made.

It has been said many times, weneed to improve testing. Activities andextra events, can not take place unlesswe see that the total number of cadetsare participating actively, and are moti-vated in the squadron. Anything youneed help on, or just need clarified, feelfree to go up the chain of command andmake your ideas clear. There are many positions that need to

be claimed. It is more important now, more than ever, to work hard to achievethese positions. There is no doubt in mymind that every member can achievemany things through our squadron. Weneed to work on many things in thissquadron to succeed.

Who will step up, and show themotivation and leadership in the comingmonths?

Public Affairs

This month I would like tothank everyone who helped with theactivities we did in September. It hasbeen a crazy, busy month with thestart of school along with all the CAPactivities! I know it is hard to balanceCAP with school work and other ac-tivities. The cadets who came out forthe Wildwood Fireman’s Parade didan awesome job! It was long and

hot, some of you had to deal withsome blisters, but you all did yourbest and looked great!

The Ocean City Airfest wasanother success. The cadets whoparticipated were wonderful. You allworked hard greeting people as theyentered, passing out programs, help-ing direct airplanes, and assistingwith the paper airplane contest.Thank you to the senior members

who helped also. Especially CaptainLunsford and 1Lt Wuerker for bring-ing the Maule and the glider. Theywere a bit hit with the crowds and I’msure helped bring attention to CAP’spurpose and mission.

I’d like to remind everyone toplease check their email, as updatesand news are sent out regularly viaemail. You can always check on thesquadron site for more information:

http://capemay.njwg.cap.gov/index.html

Parents, we can always use

your help with snack and drink dona-tions for the meetings, as well astrash bags and office supplies tokeep our squadron running!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me:[email protected]

Thank you,1Lt Sandra Kooker

From the CadetsThis past month has been very

eventful for me. Not only am I begin-ning my senior year of high schooland working on college applications, but I have been doing a lot in CAP aswell. On September 20, I participatedin the Ocean City air fest. The mostexciting part was that I helped fly theglider to Ocean City from Woodbine,

and then, after the air fest concluded,I flew the glider back to the Woodbineairport.

Things have also been goingvery well at the squadron for the pastmonth. Last week, four people testedand passed, which is extremely good. Not only does this show that peopleare studying harder, it also shows thatthey are willing to take the initiative toprogress and develop their leadership

potential. However, there are stillsome people that have not promotedin a very long time. If you need help, talk to your cadet staff, and we will geta mentor assigned to you. It is in yourown interest to do this, because thereare a lot more opportunities in the ca-det program the higher you get inrank.

C/ 1Lt Tristan Kooker

In CAP we are currently learn-

ing about rocketry. Soon we are goingto build some, and launch them intothe atmosphere! Before we canlaunch them, though, we have to takea test...next week. It’s supposed tobe easy...Can’t wait to learn more! Ohso much fun!

C/Amn Ryan Fontaine

About 6 months ago I had a lotof water leak under the house. Itcame up from under the house, upthe walls, and the floor. We had to ripup everything - the walls and floors. We also had to get rid of the cabinets.Thank God it is finally getting back to-gether. We laid the hard wood floorand the tile. All the cabinets are in.We are almost done.

From the CadetsThings have been moving

slowly in CAP. But I just passed myleadership 5 test and Drill Teamstarted up. Drill team meetings havereally gotten better with more peopleand more staff. I also participated inthe Wildwood Fireman’s Parade in thecolor guard. It was a very long pa-rade, but it was fun and worth it.

Hopefully I will have a review boardnext week and be able to make TechSergeant.

C/SSgt Dylan Rutherford

I was in the Fireman’s ParadeSeptember 13th. I was in the colorguard. I was carrying a rifle that“guarded” the flag. It was amazing todo.

I hope that I can get Senior Air-man before the end of this year. Mygoal for next year is Cadet 1st Lieu-tenant or Cadet 2nd Lieutenant sus-tained.

C/A1C Dylan McLain

Last summer, my dad, my 10year old brother, and I went kayaking. We got a double and a single-seater.My brother and I sat in the double-seater and my dad sat in the single-seater. We raced our kayaks from

one shore to the other. During therace, my dad ran into me and mybrother and took our paddles. Thenhe came back and rammed our boatagain. This time, my brother flippedmy dad’s boat over, and I took all thepaddles. I threw my dad’s paddleacross the water then started pad-dling with my paddle for dear life. My

dad won the race anyway!

C/A1C Brendan Flynn

I haven’t been able to make itto CAP very often lately because Ihave been playing football. Football isgoing good and I am very excited forour upcoming game against HolySpirit. School is going good too, I’mreally enjoying my classes. My favor-

ite class is Honors English 1. I alsohad fun at the Wildwood Fireman’sParade. I liked being seen by all thosepeople and looking my best.

C/Amn Matthew Rickards

programs to the people that werecoming to watch and see the eventsat the Ocean City air festival. Familiesthat came had a lot to do, including apaper airplane contest, helicopterrides, and a stunt show. During theflight shows we kept the people offthe runway and patrolled around. Af-ter the airshow I got to take the CAP

airplane back (with 1Lt Wuerker’shelp) while towing the glider to Wood-bine. Overall it was one of the bestweekends of my life.

C/AB Tyler Hentges

On September 22, I enrolled ina Rutgers Internment Oyster Programunder the guidance of my Natural Sci-ences teacher, Mr. Hans Toft. Under

the program, I work for three daysduring the second week of November, making $8.00 an hour. Also, I earncollege credits towards any futuregoals. I am really excited about thehands on work I will be doing with theoysters, and the experience I will gainfrom the project. This is a great op-portunity that I will surely benefit from!

C/Amn Timothy Fisher

I learned a new skill this pastweekend on September 20th. I wastaught how to give basic directions toa taxiing aircraft, fold paper aircraft, and I got to experience a remote con-trol airshow. Along with the R.C. air-show, there was a very pleasing air-show with Pitt biplanes. The Oceancity Airfest was just one of the awe-

some experiences that I have hadwith the Civil Air Patrol since I joinedone year ago.
