LOCATION AND SUPPLIES Cape Flattery is located approximately 40km north of Cooktown. Supplies such as food, water, basic mechanical parts and repairs and fuel can be gathered here. CAMPING Eddie’s Camp is an amazing campsite – make sure you camp up here for a night or two. If you’re a keen fisherman, head up the beach from the campsite about 150- 200m. You’ll see a couple of big trees sticking out of the water. Here there is a plentiful amount of barramundi, you shouldn’t be hard-pressed to catch one. Always check with the relevant local fire service authorities or local park authorities whether open fires are permitted. CAPE FLATTERY QLD ADVENTURE GUIDE MAJOR ATTRACTIONS CONNIE’S BAY – Get out here because it’s one of the rare places on the East Coast you can watch the sunset out over the horizon. ANT’S KITE-SURFING SAFARIS – If you’re into kite surfing, or you just want to get away from it all, the whole place is available to you and your mates. Also when you see Ant, ask him where his secret walk path is that goes through the coloured sands. If you can, time it just as the sun’s going down because they really do light up. SILICA SAND DUNES – You haven’t seen sand as white and pure as this before. This is a side to Cape York most people will never experience. BEST TIME TO VISIT Up in the Cape there are two distinct seasons, the Wet and the Dry seasons. The Dry season really kicks off from about April-May, which is the prime time to visit up here. That’s if you can get through, because the water comes up and can make it a bit hard to access this place. But as soon as you can get access, go for it, because you’ll experience the Cape at its best. 4WD GEAR AND TIPS If you’re coming up here or anywhere near Cape York, the roads aren’t highways, they are usually corrugated. So if you go early in the season, the corrugations will have hardly been driven and are at their absolute worst. Good suspension and a good set of tyres is a must. Make sure your 4WD is equipped to handle all conditions and is stocked with enough supplies for long distances. Satellite phones are highly recommended in remote areas such as the Cape.
