Here’s Morgan Philips ridding new Quarter Horse a 12yr.old mare ..Miss Sugar Calibar (Kelly). She had a career in Gymkhana and Cutting ,but due to a knee injury she has been retired to just light riding. Kelly is due to foal April 01,2007 to Salty Hobby Boy {Rocket}. This foal will be Morgans future Gymkhana mount. Watch for this foal in the Halter and Showmanship Classes with Joanne in 2007 show Season.

the time to see as much as she could,also making a lot

of new friends while there. Congrats on being one of

the 4H’ers to earn her way to the Big Time in T.O..

Barrel Racers{Tip of the day}; A horses left shoulder

controls his right hip. The same is true with his right

shoulder controlling his left hip. Counter-bending is a

good way to help teach your horse proper position

because it sets his pivot foot in a turn.

The 1st Annual Tom Burt Barrel Racing Bonanza was a huge success. There were 47 entries, on a beautiful sunny weekend, with several coming from 6-7 hours away. It was a testament to a great friend, Tom Burt, to see so many riders, spectators and supporters attend the show held in his honor. The Grand Opening was quite touching with all of the riders and mounts entering the ring to participate in a lovely tribute to Tom. We paid out $8,078 in prize money, with 1st place payouts as follows: Open Barrels $193, Open Poles $153, Open Dash $165, Novice Barrels $149, Novice Poles $147, Youth Barrels $42, Youth Poles $37, and Youth Dash $38. While everyone appreciated the great payouts, the best news was that we were able to donate $2500 to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtime. Thank you to so many who added an extra donation on their entry forms and people who just came to the booth to donate, to Lindsay Hilchie for donating the Shirt, Belt and Necklace to sell tickets on, and to the Calcutta supporters. We also sold an even split, $85 won by Mona Lewis. We held a Calcutta after the Open Barrels on Saturday, it was auctioning off the winner of the Open Barrels on Sunday. We raised $865 with this alone, with ½ of it being paid to the winner and the other ½ to the Canadian Cancer Society. Charlie Edwards on Rare Flame won the Open Barrels on Sunday, winning the Calcutta for Stan Dicks, who had bought him for a mere $45….with over $100 having already been paid for several other riders. Charlie was under the radar as he had not had a great run the first day of Open Barrels, so he taught everyone a lesson with his run on Sunday. The Mystery Race was also a huge hit, paying out $156 to the two first place horses. We tried to keep it a mystery as long as possible; the only hint was that it WAS a Barrel race. What it is that the entries are paired up randomly, and the combined time is how it is placed. Everyone had a great time, the suspense was great, Jean DuGas and Wayne Strickland were leading for quite some time with a combined time of 30.50 only to be beat almost at the end of the class by Laura Morrison and Margaret Neville with a combined time of 30.292. We had several High Point Prizes: Day #1 – High Point Open Horse - $100 donated by Walter MacLean – Won by Mary Lou Rankin and Royal Katie Twist Overall High Point Open Horse - $200 donated by MacLean Feather lightTrailer Sales, a Cooler donated by SunRider Ranch, Alberta – Won by Mary Lou Rankin and Royal Katie Twist Reserve Open Horse –– Feather light Jacket donated by MacLean Trailer Sales. – Won by Jean DuGas and Victor Victor Hi Point Novice Horse – Cooler donated by Karen MacDonald and Alfie Creighton - Won by Kenny Burt and Hint of Hollywood, after and exciting tie breaking run off with him and Wayne Strickland. Reserve Novice Horse – Saddle Blanket donated by Farmers Coop – Won by Wayne Strickland and Hollywood Macho Man. Hi Point Youth– Cooler donated by the MacDonald family of Leitches Creek - Won by Dillon O’Leary and Silver Spoon.
