C a n y o n C o u r t - P r o j e c t S u m m a r y 1
BACKGROUND:
• Ecolighten became involved in this project after construction began but before the framing was complete.
• The Builder’s Project Manager wanted to detail duct routing before major beam and joisting was complete in order to acommodate any adjustments
where possible.
• Outdoor pool mechanical had not been determined due to too many conflicting recommendations from multiple sources.
SOLUTIONS & OUTCOMES:
DISCOVERY• Ecolighten engaged with Builder, Project Manager, and HVAC, Plumbing & Electrical Contractors over several boardroom meetings.
• Despite numerous conflicting recommendations, no load calculation or comparative cost analysis had been prepared.
CALCULATIONS• A detailed room-by-room load calculation was performed for the house and pool.
• Ecolighten calculated comparative costs and payback for geothermal, solar (pool mats, flat plate, evacuated tube, etc.), air-source heat pump, integrated and
independent conventional pool heating systems.
RECOMMENDATIONS• Ecolighten presented our summary of the load calculations with comment.
• We discovered the originally quoted system did not have the capacity for the cooling load.
• Ecolighten demonstrated the optimum system combination for the pool.
• Options for duct routing and sizing, based on our load calculations were negotiated.
• Equipment selection was now precise and not undersized as originally quoted.
DESIGN• Ecolighten in consultation with plumbing, HVAC, electrical contractors, and Project Manager drafted a 2-Line autoCAD design that coordinated structural
beams and joists with all duct routing, piping and terminations. (see illustration table below).
SOLUTIONS• Primary energy source for heating and cooling is a Bryant 5 ton heat pump.
• Distribution through three (3) independent zones using matching Evolution Control.
• Merv 11 pleated filter.
• Veissmann Vitodens 100 with Indirect Tank for DHW.
• Solar Pool panels with house boiler (Vitodens) as 2nd stage.
