How do I grade student’s assignments in the Canvas app on my mobile device?  Grading assignments with the Canvas app is only supported on the iPad at this time. All you have to do is download both the Canvas app and the SpeedGrader app. Mobile grading functionality is available through your Android or iOS mobile browser.

Download and open the SpeedGrader app.

With SpeedGrader you can…  

• View assignment submission. • View photo and video submissions. • Listen to audio submissions. • Make comments using video, audio, and text on student assignments. • Grade using points or your already created rubric. • Open documents in other native iPad apps.

Log in to Canvas Using the SpeedGrader app.  

• Once you open the SpeedGrader app, you must enter the URL for USF (1). • The URL is: usflearn.instructure.com. • Tap the “Connect” button (2). • Then log in using your NetId and password.

How do I use the SpeedGrader app?  

• View your courses (1). • View and modify the app settings (2). • Log out of the app (3). • The number on the ribbon displays the number of submission ready to be graded.

Open an assignment for grading  

• To open an assignment, first tap the name of the course. • SpeedGrader will show the assignments that need grading. • To grade an assignment, tap the name of the assignment.

View the SpeedGrader menu.  When the assignment is opened, you can:

1. View the assignment submission. 2. Toggle between different student submissions. 3. View different versions of an assignment submission. 4. View associated submissions files (only for file upload assignments). 5. Submit comments. 6. Grade student submissions 7. Open assignments in Native apps like Google drive, Dropbox, mail (to open, print, copy

or save on any of those apps.) 8. Return to the Dashboard.

Grade the assignment.  

• To grade the assignment, tap the Grade button (1). • Type the grade in the text box (2). • The score will automatically be updated in the course Gradebook.

• If a rubric was created for the assignment, it will appear when you tap on the Grade button.  

• To use the rubric, just tap the rubric boxes for the points that the students earned. You can also leave comments about each criterion (2).  

• Enter the student’s grade in the text field (3).  • SpeedGrader will show the score created for the rubric (1).

How do I add a comment to an assignment?  

• You can leave a text, audio or video comment on a student assignment. • To leave a text comment, tap the text box and type your comment. Then post it.

• To leave a video or audio comment, tap the video button. • Adjust the media slider to either video or audio (1). • Tap the Record button to start and stop your video (2). • Tap the Play button to replay your video (3). • Tap Post Comment to submit your video (4).
