Setting Up Your Home Page

Click Tiles to View Tutorials •  Web Videos OR Print Copies

Open Sandbox & Choose Template

Click Pages to view list of pages

Click View All Pages

Find Home Page Templates & Click

Choose the Elementary Template

Modify Template

Editing Toolbar

Click Edit button

Use to: •  Edit text •  Insert links to other Canvas pages •  Insert links to other websites •  Insert images

Rename & Set as Home Page

Finish editing, click Save

Choose Use as Front Page

Click View All Pages

Rename your template (Type in the box ABOVE

the editing toolbar)

*Can be something like Mr. _____’s Home Page

Find your page and click the Gear Icon next

to it

Done! Be sure to update and add to your page as needed.

Choose a Page & Enter Edit Mode

Click Pages to view list of pages

Click on a page

name

Click Edit

Add Images To Your Page

Editing Toolbar

Click Edit button

Always click the blue SAVE button at the bottom of the page when finished editing!

Click Edit button

*To insert an image into a page, it must be uploaded first!

Click FILES under Insert Content Into

the Page

Click UPLOAD NEW FILE

Click BROWSE and locate the file on your computer

Click UPLOAD

*To insert an image, it must be uploaded first!

Click Edit button

Click the tree icon

Click on the page where you would like to insert an image. The image will be inserted where the cursor (blinking line) is positioned.

Choose an image source:

URL: An image from a website. Canvas: Images you have uploaded to Canvas. Flickr: Search Flickr (Web photo sharing site)from right inside Canvas for images that can be used legally.

Click on COURSE FILES

to view images you’ve uploaded.

Choose an image and click UPDATE.

*TIP: When inserting an image, you can choose from a huge library of images and icons already in Canvas!

Click the tree icon

Choose CANVAS

Click the COURSE FILES

folder, then click the IMAGES folder

You can choose

images in this folder or click the

HCPSS ICONS folder for icons

Choose and click UPDATE

Add a Link To Your Page

You can link to other websites or other web pages right inside Canvas.

Editing Toolbar

Click Edit button

Always click the blue SAVE button at the bottom of the page when finished editing!

If you know the web address, you can type it in. If not, you’ll need to open the website and copy the link BEFORE the next step.

Highlight and copy

ENTER PAGE EDIT MODE Highlight text or a picture in

which you would like to insert the link

Click the CHAIN LINK icon

Paste address and click

INSERT LINK button

*HINT: To Remove a link, use the

BROKEN CHAIN LINK icon

Add Text To Your Page

You can add new text to your pages or edit existing text

Editing Toolbar

Click Edit button

To ADD text, click where you would like to add text and begin typing.

To EDIT text, highlight existing text and use icon(s) on the toolbar.

blue EMBED button to add to your

page.

Making Announcements

Make Announcements

You can make announcements to share reminders or information about upcoming class events.

Click the COURSES & GROUPS icon at the top of the screen

and choose a course

Click ANNOUNCEMENTS in the navigation sidebar

Click the blue

ADD ANNOUNCEMENT button

Edit your announcement with the editing toolbar

Attach files to the announcement by clicking the

BROWSE button

Set addition options of desired

*HINT: If you’re organized and like to work ahead, consider the delay feature.

By checking the DELAY POSTING check box, you can set your announcement to automatically post at a specified date and time

in the future.

Using the Calendar

Access the Calendar & Add Events

You can add events to a class calendar for students and parents. These might include assignment reminders, field trip notices or

classroom events.

Click the CALENDAR icon at the top of the screen

Click on a day to add an event

Add event information, select

the calendar to which you would like to add the event

Click the blue SUBMIT button

when finished

To customize further, click the MORE OPTIONS button

MORE OPTIONS allows the calendar

event to be customized using the same editing

tool from the page editor

*You can also insert files into calendar

events.
