Utica Midstream Seminar:Get Our Infrastructure Update on June 8Midstream, in the oil and gas business, involves the construction of pipelines and processing plants to deliver Utica energy to its customers. Despite the decline in Utica exploration due to low oil and gas prices, Midstream remains strong. Utica Midstream, a business development seminar co-produced by the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and Shale Directories, will be June 8, 8 am to 2:30 pm, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Tickets are $175 per person and include free admission to the Hall upon conclusion of the program (the Hall is open until 8 pm).

Attendees will benefit from the knowledge of industry-leading speakers who will share the latest in Midstream key issues and development. Speakers include: Brent Breon, Vice President Business Development Caiman Energy II - Blue Racer Midstream Blue Racer is a joint venture by Caiman Energy II and Dominion to own, operate, develop and acquire midstream assets in the Utica Shale and certain adjacent areas in the Marcellus Shale. Brent will update the seminar audience on Blue Racer projects.

Canton Blues Fest Set to Rock Downtown June 10-11

Northeast Ohio’s premier free blues festival, Canton Blues Fest, will be rocking Market Square in downtown Canton for the 15th straight year on June 10 and 11! VIP tickets are on sale now, giving blues enthusiasts up-close access and fantastic food and drinks.

Headlining the event Friday is Brandon Santini at 8:30 p.m., with opening act Victor Wainwright at 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s headliner is Samantha Fish at 8:30 pm., with opening act Mike Zito at 6:30 p.m.

June 2016 - Volume XLVIII - No. 6The City of Canton and the Downtown Canton Special Improvement District (SID) have announced that a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) in downtown Canton will go into effect June 3, 2016.

The DORA, which was unanimously approved by Canton City Council in April and only the third of its kind in Ohio, permits people to legally walk outside within specified boundaries with open containers of beer, wine and liquor. Only patrons using the DORA’s “official cup” will be permitted outside with an open container. The DORA represents a partnership between the City of Canton and SID. The purpose of the DORA is to enhance the entertainment and cultural appeal of downtown Canton as a destination and also serve to enhance its economic appeal.

“Our goal is simple: to enhance the vibrancy and vitality of downtown Canton,” said Thomas M. Bernabei, Mayor of the City of Canton.

“Downtown Canton has made a name for having a thriving independent restaurant and bar scene,” said Mike Gill, Vice President of Economic Development for the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. “Our hope is that the DORA provides an additional economic boost by drawing even more people downtown.”

REFRESHMENT AREA FACTSDays of Operation: Seven days a week Hours of Operation: 12 pm to 12 am, daily Boundaries: 68.7 acres of land, with borders marked generally by 6th Street N. (north edge), McKinley Ave. (west edge), 4th Street S. (south edge) and Walnut Ave. (east edge). Patrons may walk freely within the DORA boundaries. Signage will designate the entrances and exits of the DORA.

Official Cup: A specifically designated and marked 16 oz. plastic cup is the only cup permitted in the refreshment area.

State Rep. Kirk Schuring of Jackson Township and his medical marijuana task force listened to Ohio’s employers.

The task force accepted recommendations from the Metro Chambers of Ohio (which includes the Canton Regional Chamber) that were designed to protect drug-free workplaces.Later, a medical marijuana bill introduced in the House by Rep. Stephen Huffman included those recommendations.

Schuring led a select committee of the House that held hearings on the bill and moved it to approval by the full House, then on to the Ohio Senate.

Here is a summary of what was in the bill to protect employers. The summary is based on the Legislative Service Commission analysis:

Nothing in the bill:

Requires an employer to permit or accommodate an employee’s use, possession, or distribution of medical marijuana.

Prohibits an employer from taking any adverse employment action an employer may take under current law because of a person’s use, possession, or distribution of medical marijuana.

Permits a person to sue an employer for taking an adverse employment action related to medical marijuana.Also, nothing in the bill:

Prohibits an employer from establishing and enforcing a drug testing policy, drug-free workplace policy, or zero-tolerance drug policy or interferes with federal restrictions on employment, including U.S. Department of Transportation regulations.

Furthermore, the bill:

Considers a person who is discharged from employment because of the person’s use of medical marijuana to have been discharged for just cause under the Unemployment Compensation Law and thus ineligible for unemployment benefits, which appears to be similar to current law.

Maintains the rebuttable presumption that an employee is ineligible for workers’ compensation if the employee was under the influence of marijuana and being under the influence of marijuana was the proximate cause of the injury, regardless of whether the marijuana use is recommended by a physician.

Our thanks to Schuring and to Speaker of the House Cliff Rosenberger, who asked Schuring to take the lead on this legislation.

The Ohio Legislature, knowing there is strong public support for medical marijuana, wanted to permit it by law before voters are asked once again to allow marijuana use through a constitutional amendment. That may occur this November.

The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce last year opposed the use of the Ohio Constitution to establish the marijuana business in the state.

Mark James, American Electric Power Vice President for Economic and Business Development Mark will talk about how American Electric Power has engineered the development of large power supplies to midstream facilities, often located in rural areas. What

kinds of suppliers and subcontractors have benefited from the work?

Frank Nieto, Senior Editor Hart Energy’s Midstream Business Magazine Frank was featured at Utica Midstream in 2015. He returns to our midstream seminar to offer a journalist’s perspective on the midstream business. Jason Stechschulte, Commercial Development Senior Engineer Marathon Pipe Line LLC Jason will give an update on the Cornerstone pipeline, being built from Cadiz, Ohio, to the Marathon Petroleum refinery in Canton. He also will talk about other Marathon infrastructure projects.

Erika Young, Project Director Spectra Energy in Houston, Texas Erica will offer an update on the Spectra NEXUS gas transmission pipeline that will deliver Utica energy from the Kensington,

Ohio, gas processing plant to markets north and west of Ohio, including Canada.

Leadership Stark County has been developing leaders for Stark County for 30 years! The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival department of Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Pro Football Hall of Fame have named the following key committee chairs: Roger Manse, Community Parade; Bob Vero, Transportation; Todd Stover,

Security; and Tim Jones, Hospitality.

Manse graduated from North Canton Hoover High School and attended University of Akron. Retired from

Hilscher-Clarke Electric and 47 years with IBEW 540, he has served on the Community Parade since 2010, with this his first year as chairman. He has also been a volunteer for the Concert and Fireworks and Grand Parade committees. He is treasurer of the Stark County Harley Owners Group and is a volunteer at St. Luke Lutheran Community-North Canton. He also enjoys the time he spends as an Aultman Hospital volunteer with the Pet Partners Happy Tails program. He is the proud father of one son.

The Community Parade is scheduled to kick-off at 2:30 p.m. on July 24, at Eleventh Street and Market Avenue North, and will travel south through the heart of downtown Canton. Manse will be assisted by vice chairman Chris Bresson. Vero has been a member of the Transportation Committee since 1999, and this is his third year as chairman. He is a graduate of Rome (New York) Free Academy and received a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and

a master’s degree from University of Akron. The father of three, his life’s work has been devoted to education at the elementary school level.

He is in his 39th year as an educator, having served 36 of them in public education with the Fairless and Canton City Schools, and he currently serves as principal of Holy Cross Academy, Saint Joan of Arc School.

The Transportation Committee is responsible for providing transportation for the Enshrinees, presenters and other special guests. Many of the Hall’s guests will arrive on the Thursday preceding the Enshrinement, and will not leave until after the NFL Hall of Fame Game. The massive details of providing transportation will be addressed by a team effort led by Vero and his vice chairmen Greg Evans and Rick Evans.

Stover is the Capital Portfolio Manager for Ohio Edison/Penn Power, and this will be his 37th year serving on the Hall of Fame Security Committee.

He was named vice-chairman in 2001 and is now serving his ninth year as chairman. He is a past-president and chairman of the Jackson-Belden Jaycees, past chairman of Parish Council of Saints Philip & James Church, and is a member of the Edison Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus #11037, North Canton Eagles Aerie 2223, and North Canton Elks #2029. Todd and his

wife Shelly are the proud parents of two children.

The Hall of Fame Security Committee is responsible for the events sponsored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including the Board of Trustees reception, post-Enshrinees’ Gold Jacket Dinner reception, brunches, Enshrinement Ceremony, NFL/Hall of Fame Game, tailgate parties, Hall of Fame autograph sessions, and other Hall of Fame private events. As chairman, Stover and his assistant chairman Joel Chenevey, will work closely with the Canton Police, Jackson Township Police, Stark County Sheriff’s Deputies, State Highway Patrol, and other Hall of Fame committees.

Jones, a graduate of Jackson High School and The Ohio State University, is an asset management specialist for Rexel Holdings USA.

A veteran on the Hospitality Committee, he has been a member for 32 years and served as vice-chairman for nine years, with 2016 being his seventh year as chairman. He also volunteers for the Stefanie Spielman Fund and the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer. He and wife Tiffany have two children. The Hospitality Committee coordinates post-banquet receptions and several private receptions as well as the fan appreciation events at the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Enshrinement and Hall of Fame Game days. Assisting Jones as committee vice-chairman is Tim Theiss.

E N S H R I N E M E N T F E S T I V A LPro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Names Committee Chairs Guest Services • Ambassador • Enshrinement The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival department of Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and Pro Football Hall of Fame have named the following committee chairs: Allyson Bussey, Guest Services; Laura Weisgarber, Ambassadors; and Terry Coyne, Enshrinement.

Bussey is a graduate of Massillon Washington High School, Kent State University, Leadership Stark County Signature Program, and Ohio Tourism Leadership

Academy. She has received numerous awards, including 2014 NE Ohio Tourism Excellence Award, 2012 ystark! 20 Under 40 award, and 2011 Lake Chamber of Commerce Impact Award. She is president of Visit Canton, serves on the Ohio Travel Association Executive Board, is a founding member of the Ohio Has It! Group Tour Organization, and is chairperson of Heartland Travel Showcase.

This is her second year as chairman of the Guest Services Committee, an initiative to enhance the visitor experience and provide excellence in hospitality and information services. Volunteers will be stationed at strategically placed tents throughout Pro Football Hall of Fame campus during Hall of Fame Enshrinement weekend to answer visitor information questions and provide any other assistance as needed. These volunteers will have a broad knowledge of things happening on the campus grounds as well as what exists in the community. Guest Services will also be stationed at the Fairgrounds to assist visitors who will be transported to the campus, park and direct all motor coaches attending events, and oversee handicapped shuttle transportation. Bussey is being assisted by vice chair Mark Sibert.

Weisgarber, a Massillon native, graduated from Jackson High School and The Ohio State University. She had a 27-year career at Diebold, Inc., V & S Schuler

Inc. She is currently serving as Finance Director at ICAN Housing. A member of the Ambassador Committee since 2000, and vice chair for four years, this is her second year as chairman. She is on the finance committee of Domestic Violence Project Inc., past president of Institute Management of Accountants, and past chairman of IMA Ohio Regional Council. A Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, her only “child” has four legs and fur!

Ambassador Committee assistant chairman is Evan Hannon. The Ambassador Committee is responsible for the First Ball event and Ambassador Program. The Ambassador Program works with the returning Hall of Famers to visit and speak at various community locations.

The First Ball event will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 4. Nearly 2,000 enthusiastic youngsters will pass an official NFL football through a three-mile child link chain, from the site in downtown Canton where the NFL was founded in 1920, to the steps of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Emphasizing the importance of physical fitness starting at an early age, it is also a great ceremonial kick-off to an incredible weekend of football.

Coyne is a native of Wheeling, West Virginia, and graduated from Belmont Technical College in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He is vice president of national accounts for Joshen Paper and Packaging and a member of Little Flower Catholic Church Men’s Club. He has served for 18 years as a maître ‘d for the Enshrinees’ Gold Jacket

Dinner and has been on the Enshrinement Committee for 13 years, with the past five as co-vice chairman. He and wife Bernadette have three sons and one daughter and

are the proud grandparents of five.

Coyne and his team of volunteers, including vice chairman Dave McRoberts, prepare the facilities and programming for staging, seating and logistics of the Enshrinement Ceremony program. The Enshrinement Ceremony for the Class of 2016 football greats will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. The stellar Class of Enshrinees includes Edward DeBartolo, Jr., Tony Dungy, Brett Favre, Kevin Greene, Marvin Harrison, Orlando Pace, Ken Stabler, and Dick Stanfel.

Stark County Safety Council Named Top Safety Council in OhioThe Stark County Safety Council, a program of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, is happy to announce it has been named the top-rated safety council in state of Ohio by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC).

The SCSC received the number-one spot out of 83 safety councils statewide for its exemplary performance, communication and training and employer participation.

True-up Coming in JulyAre you prepared for the next steps in the new workers’ comp billing process?

In July, 2016, private employers will need to complete the payroll true-up process for the policy year that will end June 30, 2016. The true-up requires employers to report their payroll for the period of July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016 which will be reconciled with the estimated payroll BWC used to calculate their premium.

Employers must complete this true-up online at www.bwc.ohio.gov. If an employer doesn’t have an e-account on www.bwc.ohio.gov, BWC strongly encourages creation of one prior to the true-up deadline to complete the online true-up reporting process. Failure to file a true-up will result in disqualifications from BWC programs.

BWC created two videos with detailed instructions on How to Create a BWC E-Account and the BWC Payroll True-Up.

ArtsinStark’s 2016 Annual Arts Campaign has made goal for the 11th straight year in a row. At the Victory Luncheon held at Canton Glassworks and the Hub Art Factory in the Arts District on Wednesday, May 25, volunteers and arts leaders cheered as 2016 Campaign Chair Jim Porter, CEO/Publisher of The Repository announced “We’ve done it again!” Porter reminded everyone that “In a challenging economic environment like this one --- it’s all about just getting to the $1.7 million goal.” More than 100 volunteers worked on the drive and 30 companies hosted arts workplaces for the arts. ArtsinStark Board Chair Max Deuble thanked Porter for his amazing leadership saying “Jim’s determination was inspirational, and The Repository’s coverage about how art changes lives in our schools, our downtowns, and our neighborhoods made all the difference.”

American National University has a lot to celebrate after recently transitioning to university status and reaching a milestone of 130 years of providing students with career-focused training. The ANU Stark County Campus, located at 4736 Dressler Road NW in Canton, offers diplomas and associate’s degrees in high-demand fields with flexible schedules designed with the working

adult in mind. Classes are now forming for programs in medical assisting, medical office professional, pharmacy technician, and business administration-management and accounting. Associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees are also available through ANU Online where students can continue their education in their home and on their schedule. Both the on-campus and online programs at ANU are nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC, announces the opening of its newest office in North Canton, Ohio serving the north-, central- and southeastern parts of the State. The company is also pleased to announce that it has added an experienced engineering manager to its team. Dennis Gonano, PE, has joined the firm as a Senior Engineer and Ohio Operations Manager based in the new office. Mr. Gonano brings 28 years of experience serving clients with engineering, environmental documentation and management services for a variety of projects. His project ties to Stark County include improving 12th Street, NW in Perry Township, between Brunnerdale Ave and the Sippo Lake Park Drive to prevent recurring flooding of the roadway; the Trail Bridge over the Deer Creek Reservoir Spillway near Alliance; and the Cherry Street Bridge Replacement in Canal Fulton.

Siffrin held an open house on April 28th to celebrate the opening of their new central office location on 3688 Dressler Road NW. Senator Oelslager offered well wishes to Siffrin staff and those in attendance. Siffrin Board of Directors President, Michael Bogdan from Krugliak, Wilkins also made remarks. Siffrin is a not for profit agency that provides, residential, employment, transportation,

financial and day services for persons with intellectual and physical challenges. Siffrin has been part of the Canton/Stark County community for 40 years and presently has operations in nine counties in northeastern Ohio. CEO Brad Vincent stated that he feels very fortunate to partner with the Stark Community Foundation, the Timken Foundation and the Hoover Foundation as well as the many community supporters who believe in the mission of Siffrin.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Academy in Canton, Ohio has launched a new football curriculum, world class training and technol-ogy, and some of the NFL’s top coaches led by Hall of Famer Rod Woodson. The Academy also launched the Call to The Hall scouting campaign to uncover the nation’s premiere high school and middle school athletes to participate in an invite only, premiere scouting and educational event this summer. Nominations are currently being accepted at www.ProFootballHOFAcademy.com. The facility-based training will be held on new fields at the National Football & Youth Sports Complex currently under construction as part of Hall of Fame Village. The Academy will feature four days of elite athlete train-ing and programming both on the field and off the field. The classroom sessions will feature Axon Sports, the leader in cogni-tive sports training, that will help athletes improve their reaction and decision making ability. Through CHARACTER GAMEPLANTM, the Muñoz Agency will lead the character development program. The selected athletes will get the first sneak peak of the word-class training center and work with legendary NFL coaches, elite performance trainers and sport scientists.
