June 2014 THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

MEET THE LORD AFRESH EVERY DAY

In the Pope’s amazing exhortation “Evangelii Gaudium”, he challenges

everyone to “meet the Lord afresh each day”. This is a challenge that is

based deep in our life of prayer. No day should begin without

acknowledging His presence.

There are moments when this exhortation takes on a very special

significance. This weekend is such a moment. At three Masses on Saturday,

over 70 children made their First Holy Communion. Much preparation has

gone into the event. We first met with the parents last September and we

started the journey with the children in January. It has been a great time. The

meetings I had with the parents were a great opportunity to look at the

challenges parents and carers have as they bring children to faith. Always

the emphasis is the same: we need to children to KNOW Jesus and not

simply to know a lot about Him.

On their First Holy Communion Day we trust they did just that. May every

Sunday onwards be just as special for them.
