Features and Benefits of the Remote UI
The Remote UI (User Interface) is software within the device that provides you withfunctions such as managing device status, job management, and allows varioussettings and changes. Web server software is installed into the device whichenables you to use the Remote UI. Therefore no additional software is required.
After you start your web browser and specify an IP (Internet Protocol) address forthe device, the Remote UI screen is displayed and ready to use.

Device status check from a network computerThe Remote UI allows you to access the device via a network, enabling you to display the
current status and settings for the device, and the status of all information and job
processing. You can manage the device from a personal computer connected to the
network without having to perform operations on the device itself.
When you specify the IP address of the device with your web browser, the Remote UIs
top page appears as shown below:
Go to Remote UI Top Page.Displays the current printer status, scanner status, and fax status.
(The Fax function is only available when the fax board is installed in
the imageRUNNER 3300i, or the imageRUNNER 3300/2800/2200.)
Displays the current status, settings and equipment being used with
the device.
Displays the current status of jobs, and permits changes to jobs being
processed by the device.
View and print documents stored in mail boxes in the device.
Click this button when you want to use the device to print a PDF or PS
file saved on the computer or network you are using, without opening
the file. (This function can only be used when the imageRUNNER 105,
imageRUNNER 8500, imageRUNNER 85, imageRUNNER 7200 or
imageRUNNER 3300i is used as a PS or PCL printer.)

NOTE
You can change the language displayed on the screen by selecting a language from the
language drop-down list. This function is only available when you set the [Language
Switch] to [On] in the [System Settings] in the Additional Functions using the devices
control panel. For instructions on how to use the control panel, see Chapter 3, Selecting
and Storing Settings to Suit your Needs, in the Reference Guide. (This function is not
available with the imageRUNNER 6000/5000.)
Switching the language limits the types of letters you can enter.
Set and control the device from a PCThe Remote UI allows you to stop and resume jobs, view and print jobs stored in mail
boxes, and change various settings. You can edit settings and control the device from a
PC without using the devices control panel.
Click this button to store addresses in, and manage, the Address
Books, and System Ref.
Click this button to edit a variety of settings for the device (such as
System, Forwarding Settings, Dept. ID Management, Import/Export,
and Custom Settings).
This updates the currently displayed screen with the latest information.Information is not updated automatically. When you click this button,
the latest information from the device is acquired.

View an image in a Mail Box on a PCThe Remote UI enables you to display image files stored in mail boxes, from the [Mail
Box] button on your PC, using the JBIG Image Viewer.

System Requirements
The Remote UI has been designed to work with the following systems and
applications.

- Microsoft Windows XP Web Browser
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 or later
- Netscape Communicator/Navigator 4.6 or later
Macintosh
OS
- Mac OS 8.6 or later
However, does not conform to Mac OS X.
Web Browser- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 or later
IMPORTANT
If you are using Netscape Communicator 6.2, select [Edit] [Preferences] from the
Menu bar, then click [Advanced] from the [Category] list, and click [Cache]. Under the
setting [Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network:] select [Once per
session] or [Never]. If you do not edit this setting, you will need the access conditions
from another browser.
NOTE
Apart from those mentioned above, no other software, such as a web server, isnecessary. (There is already a web server inside the device.)
To display the documents stored in a mail box, it is necessary to install the JBIG Image
Viewer. The JBIG Image Viewer is included with the PS/PCL package.

Before You Start the Remote UI
Before you start the Remote UI, check the following:
Network SettingsSelect the [Network Settings] in [System Settings] inAdditional Functions, and verify the
IP address of the device. If you do not know the IP address, consult your network
administrator. (See the Network Guide.)
Set the Remote UI to [ON]Set the [Remote UI] to [On] in the [System Settings] in Additional Functions using the
devices control panel. It is also recommended to set the [Device information Settings] in
[System Settings].
Install the JBIG Image ViewerTo display the documents stored in a mail box, it is necessary to install the JBIG Image
Viewer. To install and use the JBIG Image Viewer, see the readme.txt file on the CD-ROM
provided.
IMPORTANT
Connection via a proxy server is not possible. If your system environment has a proxy
server, perform the following settings. (Settings vary according to the system
environment so please consult your network administrator.)
- Input the device IP address into Exceptions in the web browser proxy server settings.
Set your web browser to allow all cookies. If you do not set your web browser to allow allcookies and Java Script, you will not be able to change the settings of the device.
When the control panel of the device is being used, you cannot perform the same
operations from the Remote UI.
When multiple Remote UIs are started simultaneously, the latest setting made will be
enabled. It is recommended that only one Remote UI be started at one time.

Setting the Remote UI to On/Off
This allows you to enable or disable settings from the Remote UI. The initial devicesettings are made using the devices control panel.
1 Call up the desired screen as follows:Press (Additional Functions)[System Settings] [Remote UI].
If the System Manager ID and System Password have been set, press [System
Settings], enter the System Manager ID and password, and press (ID).
2 Select [ON] or [OFF], and Press [OK].
3 Press [Done] repeatedly until the Basic Features screenappears.
4 Turn OFF the main power to the device, wait ten seconds and
turn the power ON again.
NOTE
The Remote UI starts only after the device has been turned back ON.

Device Status and Information Display
Using the Remote UI, you can find out the current status of the device, such as theamount of paper remaining or the display status. You can also find out informationabout the device administrator, the installation location and the device protocolsettings.
1 Click the [Device] button and then select the item that youwant to display from the menu.
Status: Displays the current device status, such as the amount of paper
remaining, error status and maintenance information
(consumables). Maintenance information is not displayed in theimageRUNNER 5000i, imageRUNNER 6000/5000, imageRUNNER
3300i and imageRUNNER 3300/2800/2200.
Information: Displays device information regarding the device administrator,
and installation location.
Features: Displays equipment that is being used with the device, such as
the feeder or finisher.

Network: Displays the device protocol settings.
Counter: Displays the number of pages that have been output from the device
for printing, copying and received job printing (Only available if the
fax or I-Fax function is installed.).
The information is displayed for the selected item.

Job Management
The Remote UI provides you with job management capabilities to check job status,stop/resume jobs and prioritize print jobs.
The types of jobs that can be managed are as follows:
Print jobs
Copy jobs
Send jobs (only available with the imageRUNNER 105, imageRUNNER 8500,imageRUNNER 7200, imageRUNNER 5000i and imageRUNNER 3300i).
Receive jobs (only available with the imageRUNNER 105, imageRUNNER 8500,imageRUNNER 7200 and imageRUNNER 3300i)
Fax jobs (only available if the fax board is installed with the imageRUNNER 3300ior imageRUNNER 3300/2800/2200)
NOTE
The job management operations available using the Remote UI are the same as those
available from the [System Monitor] on the control panel of the device. For details of
operations from the control panel see Chapter 2, Checking Various Job Operations and
Device Status, in the Reference Guide (For the imageRUNNER 6000/5000, see Chapter
5, Printing Efficiently, in the Users Guide).
For a detailed explanation of fax job management of the imageRUNNER 3300/2800/
2200, see Chapter 4, Checking and Changing the Fax Status, in the Facsimile Guide.
For a detailed explanation of job management, see Chapter 2 Checking Various JobOperations and Device Status in the Reference Guide (For the imageRUNNER 6000/
5000, see Chapter 5, Printing Efficiently, in the Users Guide).
Send jobs and Receive jobs can only be managed in the imageRUNNER 105,
imageRUNNER 8500 and imageRUNNER 7200 if the Universal Send Expansion Board-
A1 (optional) is installed.
Copy jobs and Send jobs can only be managed in the imageRUNNER 5000i if the Image
Reader- A1 (optional) is installed.
Copy jobs, Send jobs and Receive jobs can only be managed in the imageRUNNER
3300i if the Image Reader-B1 (optional) is installed.
Fax jobs can only be managed in the imageRUNNER 3300i and imageRUNNER 3300/
2800/2200 if the fax board (optional) is installed.
Only print jobs can be managed in the imageRUNNER 85.

1 Click the [Job Status] button and then select the job type fromthe menu.
A list for the selected job type appears.

Managing the imageRUNNER 3300/2800/2200 Fax Sendand Receive Jobs
The Remote UI allows you to delete fax jobs and change the receive mode (RXmode). (The fax function is only available when the fax board is installed with the
imageRUNNER 3300/2800/2200.)
NOTE
To set the machine to receive mode, set the memory lock and the transfer settings to
[ON] by pressing (Additional Functions) [System Settings] [Communications
Settings] [Memory Lock Setting] or [Transfer Setting]. You can also set the machine to
receiving mode using the Remote UI by pressing [Add. Func.] button [Custom
Settings] [Transfer settings] or [Memory Lock Settings].

Managing Mail Boxes
The Remote UI allows you to perform operations on documents stored in mailboxes, edit mail box settings, and otherwise manage mail boxes. The mail boxesthat can be managed are listed below.
Mail box management operations available using the Remote UI are the same asthose available from the control panel of the device. For a detailed explanation ofthese operations, see Chapter 4, Using/Arranging Documents Stored in an Inbox,in the Mail Box Function Guide (Chapter 2 for the imageRUNNER 85, and Chapter3 for the imageRUNNER 5000i and imageRUNNER 3300/2800/2200. For theimageRUNNER 6000/5000, see Chapter 4, Using the Mail Box Functions, in theUsers Guide.).
User InboxesThese are mail boxes in which documents that have been loaded into the device are
stored temporarily. Documents can be saved in up to 100 user inboxes. Stored documents
can be printed, sent, moved or duplicated to another user inbox, merged, inserted into
other documents, or deleted. Also, names can be assigned to user inboxes, and
passwords and storing periods set.
NOTE
The send function is available only with the imageRUNNER 105, imageRUNNER 8500,
imageRUNNER 7200, imageRUNNER 5000i, and imageRUNNER 3300i. This function is
only available in the following cases:
- When the Universal Send Expansion Board-A1 (optional) is installed in the
imageRUNNER 105, imageRUNNER 8500, and imageRUNNER 7200.
- When the Image Reader-A1 (optional) is installed in the imageRUNNER 5000i.
- When the Image Reader-B1 (optional) is installed in the imageRUNNER 3300i.
Merging and saving documents and inserting documents are only available with the
imageRUNNER 105, imageRUNNER 8500, imageRUNNER 85, imageRUNNER 7200,
and imageRUNNER 3300i.
In the imageRUNNER 5000i, imageRUNNER 6000/5000, and imageRUNNER 3300/
2800/2200, a User Inbox is referred to as a User Box.
Memory RX Inbox (imageRUNNER 105, imageRUNNER 8500,imageRUNNER 7200 and imageRUNNER 3300i)This is a mail box where received fax and I-Fax documents are stored into memory.
Stored documents can be printed, sent or deleted. Also, you can set whether faxes and I-
Faxes are stored into memory, and set passwords.

conditions registered in the Forwarding Settings are stored. Documents can be saved in
up to 50 mail boxes. Stored documents can be printed or deleted. Also, names can be

By selecting a document and clicking the buttons below, you can change the
order in which the documents are printed.

Click the [Change Print Setting] button.
When you switch to the [Printer Settings] screen, you can change the print
settings saved in the mail box.
Clicking the [Original Settings...] button on the switched screen, it will return
you to the previous screen, where you can print using the former print
settings.
The [Change Print Setting] button is only displayed when a user inbox
document is being printed. Change the Settings, then click the [OK] button.
If you perform a number of settings which cannot be used in combination, you
cannot click the [OK] button. Try performing the operation again.

You can specify and direct print PDF files or PS files from the Remote UI. Thisfunction is available only where the printer function is installed.
IMPORTANT
If you direct print a file whose page size is a mixture of 11" x 17" and LTR, or LGL and
LTR, the direction in which the pages are fed may differ. If you want the pages to be fed in
the same direction, open the file in the application used to create it, change the print
settings using the print driver, then print the file.
NOTE
This function is available only in the following cases:
- The imageRUNNER 105, imageRUNNER 8500, imageRUNNER 85, imageRUNNER
7200 and imageRUNNER 3300i are used with as PS or PCL printers.

Customizing System Information
The Remote UI enables you to set information that is used for managing the systemof the device.
NOTE
Some of the system settings made with the Remote UI can also be set on the devices
control panel with the (Additional Functions) key [System Settings] [System
Manager Settings]. For details about control panel operations, see Chapter 4, System
Manager Settings, in the Reference Guide, or Chapter 6, Setting and Adjusting
Common Settings to Suit Your Needs, in the Users Guide (imageRUNNER 6000/5000).
The maximum number of digits you can store for the Department ID and Password is
seven. If you store less than seven digits, the machine stores them as follows:
- Example: If [321] is entered, [0000321] is stored.

1 Set the Message Board.
Status Display: This message is displayed furthest down on the touch
panel display. Enter a message of up to 23 characters.
Pop-up Window: This message is displayed on the touch panel display.
Enter a message of up to 23 characters for each line.
You can enter up to 4 lines.
Display: This is for determining the way the pop-up window will
be displayed.
-With [All Times], the message cannot be erased from
the devices touch panel display. (To erase the
message, select [Clear Message Board] from
the (Additional Functions) key or reset the settings
with the Remote UI.)
-With [On Auto Clear Time], when you press [Done], themessage on the touch panel display is deleted. The
message will be displayed again after the control panel
is cleared automatically.
Remote UI: This displays the contents of the pop-up window on the
top page of the Remote UI as well.
2 Set the Support Link.
URL: This is for specifying the URL link for support, to be
displayed on the top page of the Remote UI.
3 Set the System Manager Information.
System Manager: Enter the name of the system manager.
Contact Information: Enter the contact information for the system manager.
E-mail Address: Enter the system managers e-mail address.

Forwarding Settings

Forwarding Conditions: If you specify forwarding conditions here, you
can set them so that only received documents
which have (or do not have) a specific word
string are forwarded.
Forwarding Destination: When specifying an address from an address
book, after selecting the [Select from Address
Book] radio button, click the [Address Book...]
button to select a forwarding destination from thelist displayed. If you are forwarding to a
confidential fax box, after selecting the [Select
from Confidential Fax Inbox] radio button, select
the Confidential Fax Inbox that is the forwarding
destination from the Confidential Fax Inbox drop-
down list.
Forwarding Setting: Enter the necessary settings, such as the name
of the document you are sending and file type.
If you want to send confirmation that forwarding has been successfully
completed, place a checkmark beside [Forwarding Done Notice], click the
[Address Book...] button, and select the address you want to notify.
If you place a checkmark next to [Store/Print Received Document], you can print
a received document which is to be forwarded, or receive it into memory.

Managing Department IDs
You can manage Department IDs with the Remote UI.
IMPORTANT
This machine will automatically manage the department ID when the optional Card
Reader-C1 or Card Reader-D1 is attached.
NOTE
Managing department IDs with the Remote UI is the same as doing it from
the (Additional Functions) key [System Settings] [Dept. ID Management] on the
devices control panel. For details of managing department IDs from the control panel,

To change the password and impression limit for a department:

message to confirm whether you want to erase the count appears, click the
[OK] button.
To delete a department:

the button (delete button).

Loading an imageRUNNER 105, imageRUNNER 8500, imageRUNNER7200, imageRUNNER 5000i, or imageRUNNER 3300i Address List File
You can load address book information into the device from saved files.
IMPORTANT
If you select [Append] as the [Import Method], if addresses in the file to be downloadedhave the same name as those already registered in the device, those addresses are
treated as new registrations with the same name.
If you select [Overwrite] as the [Import Method], the addresses registered in the device
are all erased, and the contents of the file are loaded into the device.
When overwrite importing, the operation panel settings of the device return to their
standard settings.
NOTE
You can register up to 1800 addresses in an address book. (200 of these are addresses
assigned to the one-touch buttons.) The information for each address is treated as a
separate item. When importing additional addresses, make sure that you do not exceedan overall total of 1800 addresses.
When importing LDAP format files, only e-mail addresses and fax numbers are
registered in the device. Make sure that the number of items does not exceed 1800.
The information in the address book one touch buttons cannot be imported in LDAP.
