20mph speed limit on residential roads?

Croydon Council is currently holding the first stage of a 'consultation' on their proposed introduction of a 20 mph speed limit on residential roads in our ward (Addiscombe) and neighbouring wards in north-east Croydon. The Council has delivered a flier to every household in our two roads. You can find more information and an online questionnaire at www.croydon.gov.uk/20mph. The deadline for this first stage of 'consultation', which the Council is calling 'community engagement', ends on Friday 20 May 2016 for electronic responses and Monday 23 May 2016 for paper responses. The Council will then proceed to a 'statutory consultation' in July / August 2016 when residents have another opportunity to voice their opinions. For a variety of views on a potential 20 mph speed limit, Croydon Radio has a podcast at www.croydonradio.com/podcast/podcast.php?ID=370. It’s really important that everyone expresses their view – for or against, strong or not strong. In such situations there is a possibility that those who have the strongest views are the only ones who express them and the result is not necessarily representative of residents as a whole.

Campaign for a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Croydon This is a new, resident-led group. A Facebook page has recently been set up, it will be updated with all upcoming events. The campaign for a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Croydon will also have its own stall at Croydon’s Environmental Fair, Wandle Park, 11 June. For more information contact Charles Barber at [email protected]. We don’t have a contact phone number but, if you don’t have email and want to get in touch, let Anne know and she’ll email a message for you.

Volunteering in the community The Addiscombe Neighbourhood Care Association (ANCA) is a voluntary organisation providing practical help, advice, support and community activities to the people of Addiscombe and the immediate area. Please could you help local people with one of the following? * Drive clients to health appointments and collect them afterwards * Escort clients on the shopping buses * Help at social events and the Lunch Club * Befriend clients by regular visits to them in their homes * Offer practical "DIY" type help on an occasional basis * Help out in the office * Carry out light gardening * Assist clients with official "form-filling" and liaison with statutory authorities. For more information see www.anca.org.uk or phone 020 8654 5062.

Quick Contact Group We are increasingly being sent information on events or consultations at short notice. Since we can only put out a limited number of newsletters, we have a Quick Contact Group. This is mainly by email but we do drop round paper copies for those without internet access. We avoid sending round too many emails. If you would like to be on our Quick Contact Group, please let Anne know.
