JOYFUL, JOYFUL, WE ADORE THEE
Joyful , joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, Opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day.
All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays, Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain , Flowery meadow, flashing sea, Chanting bird and flowing fountain, Call us to rejoice in Thee.
Thou art giving and forgiving , Ever blessing , ever blest, Well-spring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ, our Brother, All who live in love are Thine; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the Joy divine.
Mortals, join the happy chorus Which the morning stars began; Father love is reigning o'er us, Brother love binds man to man. Ever singing, march we onward , Victors in the midst of strife, Joyful music leads us Sunward In the triumph song of life.
YE SERVANTS OF GOD, YOUR MASTER PROCLAIM
Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim, And publish abroad His wonderful Name; The Name all victorious of Jesus extol ; His Kingdom is glorious, He rules over all.
God ruleth on high, almighty to save; And still He is nighHis presence we have; The great congregation His triumph shall sing , Ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.
"Salvation to God, who sits on the throne," Let all cry aloud and honor the Son; The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim , Fall down on their faces, and worship the Lamb.
Then let us adore, and give Him His right, All glory and power, all wisdom and might; All honor and blessing, with angels above, And thanks never ceasing , and infinite love.

0 sing of His grace, Whose robe is the light, Whose canopy space; His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form , And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.
The earth with its store of wonders untold, Almighty, Thy power hath founded of old ; Thy mercies, how tender, how firm to the end, Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer and Friend.
ACADEMIC ATTIRE
The custom of wearing academic gowns and hoods dates from the twelfth century when a long gown and cowl (similar to the academic hood of today) were worn by clerics and scholars in unheated buildings. Today academic regalia signifies scholastic achievement.
Bachelors' gowns are made with pointed sleeves; Masters' gowns are made with long closed sleeves; Doctors' gowns have black velvet panels down the front and velvet bars on round and open sleeves.
The size and shape of the hood distinguish the degree, that of Doctor being largest. The color used in the velvet border of the hood indicates the degree. The colors in the lining of the hood indicate the college or university which confers the degree.
The Board of Trustees wear doctoral gowns during their term of office along with a black mortarboard which is worn by all participants.

Praise Him J. S. Bach(1685 · 175(1 Edited & arranged, Paul Steel
Praise Him, praise Him, 0 praise the Lord most holy; Bow before Him all ye people ; Bow before Him, the Lord on high.
Worthy art Thou to be praised , For Thou art the true and righteous Lord of all on Heav'n and earth .
King of kings and God Almighty, We do worship at Thy throne .
I'll Praise My Maker
I'll praise my Maker while I've breath And when my voice is lost in death Praise shall employ my nobler pow'rs.
My days of praise shall ne'er be past, While life and thought and being last, Or immortality endures.
Old 113tl Setting by Eug~ne Bulle
Happy the man whose hopes rely on Israel's God; He made the sky and earth and seas with all their tra in . His truth forever stands secure, He saves the oppressed , He feeds the poor,
and none shall find His promise vain .
The Lord pours eyesight on the blind ; The Lord supports the fainting mind:
He sends the Jab'ring conscience peace; He helps the stranger in distress,
the widow and the fatherless, And grants the pris'ner sweet release.
I'll praise Him while He lends me breath, And when my voice is lost in death Praise shall employ my nobler pow'rs.
My days of praise shall ne'er be past While Life and thought and being last, Or immortality endures! Amen!
··Isaac Watts, Alterations, John Wesley
The Omnipotence Soloist: J ulie Patterson
Great is Jehovah the Lord For heaven and earth testify to His great power!
'Tis heard in the fierce raging storm, In the torrent's loud thundering roar ; Great is Jehovah the Lord , Mighty is His pow'r!
'Tis heard in the rustling of leaves in the forest , Seen in the waving of golden fields In loveliest flowers' gaudy array. 'Tis seen in myriad stars of heaven .
Fierce it sounds in the thunder's loud roll,
Franz Schubert Arr. Max Spieker
And flames in the lightning 's brightly quivering flash . Yet clearer thy throbbing heart to Thee proclaims Jehovah's pow'r,
The Lord God Almighty.
Look thou praying to Heav'n, And hope for grace and for mercy.
Great is Jehovah the Lord!
PART II
Foundation Early American Melody Setting, John Ness Back
How firm a foundation , ye saints of the Lord , Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said, To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?
" Fear not, I am with thee : 0 be not dismayed, For I am thy God and will still give thee aid .
I'll strengthen thee, help thee , and cause thee to stand, Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.
"When through fiery trials Thy pathway shall lie , My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply.
The flame shall not hurt thee , I only design Thy dross to consume, and Thy gold to refine."
The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose " I will not, I will not desert to its foes.
That soul , though all hell should endeavor to shake, I'll never, no, never, forsake!"
Alleluia, Amen! " K in Rippon 's Selection of Hymns, 1787
Based on II Timothy 2 :19, Hebrews 13:5 and Isaiah 43: 1·2
God Bring Thy Sword Ron Nelson (1967)
Not for heaven 's sight, nor for glory and eternal joy; Not for endless peace or comfort for our sleeping souls.
We ask , 0 Lord , to see Thy sword, Thy judgment, lightning sharp, stand above the altar
Where we kneel and pray. Strip the pious vestments from us. Hold our eyes open wide 't i ll we see the world we make
With our suave mannered hate, With our instant fires of hell.
Simpering postures of pride, Clinking the money, aping the race, Patch ing the flimsy walls with paper speech.
Hand the sword above the pulpit and the pew Close to the curse of pliant courtesy; Close to the ugly sin we cover with vain velvet; Close to the empty smile we use to hide our fear; Close to the peace we die carping our soul in a lie.
God bring Thy sword , hold our eyes open wide. God bring Thy sword over pulpit and pew. God bring Thy sword , cleave the light from the dark. God bring Thy sword close to where we pray. God bring Thy sword, husk our shabby souls
'Till we stand clean in Thy holy sight. Amen . ..samuel Miller (1967)
Holy Spirit With Light Divine Gordon Young
Holy Spirit, with light divine, shine upon this heart of mine, Chase the shades of night away; turn my darkness into day.
Holy Spirit, with power div ine , cleanse this guilty heart of mine. Long hath sin without control held dominion o'er my soul.
Holy Spirit, all divine, dwell within this heart of mine, Cast down every idol throne ; reign supreme and reign alone . Amen .
.. Andrew Reed
PART III Thou Art My God
Thou wilt show me the path of life . In Thy presence is fullness of joy,
In Thy right hand are pleasures forevermore , 0 Lord, Thou art my God.
Thou wilt lead me to waters clear, Where I drink of the fountain of life ,
Springs and wells there are bubbling forevermore , 0 Lord, Thou art my God.
Thou art my God, who turns my mourning into dancing, Sadness into song ,
Heavy heartedness is turned to gladness, What was stricken now is strong.
Hank Beebe
Therefore I will love the Lord, Love Him with my heart and soul ; Keep Him first in all my thoughts , As my one and only goal, As my one and only Lord He can fill my heart and soul , He can fill the wicked old world with love.
I will try to do His will , take the Bible off the shelf; Learn the ways of loving Him and my neighbor as myself; He will help me think of Him, He will help me think of them, He will help the wicked old world to love.
Therefore I will bless the Lord ; therefore I will praise the Lord. Therefore I will love the Lord, love Him with my heart and soul. Keep Him first in all my thoughts as my one and only goal. As my one and only Lord He can fill my heart and soul.
He can fill the wicked old world .
Therefore I will bless the Lord; Therefore I will praise the Lord;
Therefore I will follow my God! ··Based on Psalm 16:11

Professor Leland Flickinger Professor Leland Flickinger is in his first year as Chairman of the Music Department and Choral Club director at St. Paul Bible College. He holds the Master of Music degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and has completed additional graduate study at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Westminister Choir College, the Universities of Oregon and Missouri, and Colorado State University.
Prior to coming to SPBC Professor Flickinger taught for 12 years at Grace College of the Bible in Omaha, Nebraska, and prior to that he taught at the secondary level. In 1978 he assumed a part-time position as the minister of music at the Omaha Gospel Tabernacle of The Christian and Missionary Alliance and served in this position until joining the SPBC faculty.
Music at St. Paul Bible College St. Paul Bible College and excellent sacred music are nearly synonymous for many. Since 1944 the St. Paul Bible College Choral Club has ministered encouragement, facilitated worship, and provided inspiration to congregations across the United States.
The 1983 Choral Club is representative of the music program of SPBC . .. a program growing both in scope and excellence. The Music Department, under the Chairmanship of Professor Leland Flickinger, director of the Choral Club, is looking forward to continued growth as new programs in music education (preparation of Christian elementary and secondary school music teachers), and church music (education in leader· ship, performance, and philosophy for church musicians). Symbolic of the improving program has been the recent addition of several new pianos. Donations by concerned friends of the college made possible the purchase of a concert grand piano, an additional grand piano, and new studio pianos.
Whether majoring in music or not, all students are free to audition for par· ticipation in a variety of college musical organizations including Choral Club, Symphonic Band, Chapel Choir, His Workmanship vocal ensemble, and numerous smaller groups.
The friendly members of the Choral Club will be happy to tell you more about God's blessing upon the people and programs of St. Paul Bible Col· lege. Be sure to meet these students at the conclusion of their ministry in music.

Dr. Desiderius Klempay, director of the Symphonic Band is Assistant Professor of Music at St. Paul Bible College. Dr. Klempay holds a Master of Arts Degree from California State University at Los Angeles and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Organ Performance from the University of Minnesota. He has concertized in Europe and on the West Coast before joining the teaching staff at St. Paul Bible College in 1978.
St. Paul Bible College graces a 175 acre campus just nine miles west of the suburbs of Greater Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lakes, ponds and wooded rolling hills give a special character to this unusual location. The large crossshaped main building includes classrooms, the library, offices, some dormitories, the dining room and the gymnasium. Four other attractive, recently constructed buildings provide additional housing.
Over 600 students will study at SPBC this year. Coming from three foreign nations and thirty-eight different states, they will study under a committed, scholarly faculty, nearly one-half of whom hold earned doctorates or are doctoral candidates.
St. Paul Bible College exists to educate Christian ambassadors who will serve the Lord in diverse fields ranging from pastoral education and missionary training to the equipping of teachers for ministry in Christian elementary schools. Christian journalists, pre-seminary students, church secretaries and church musicians also prepare for their professional ministries at SPBC. Students, preparing for vocations other than full -time ministry professions, find that the Bible-based education at SPBC is valuable as a prelude to educational endeavors at other institutions and in other disciplines.
Accredited by both the American Association of Bible Colleges and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, St. Paul Bible College is a beautiful place with academically competent and spiritually sensitive people.
