"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it

is the courage to continue that counts." -

Winston Churchill

“I know your works. See, I have set

before you an open door, and no one can shut

it” – Revelations 3:8. My eighth grade year a

door was opened for me because that was the

year that I joined the FFA. This door has led

me on a journey that has been indescribable.

Through ought this journey I have learned so

much and created many new friendships and

memories. From the many life lessons in the

ag truck, to the late nights writing speeches

the Oklahoma FFA has made an impact on

my life.

As my senior year comes to an end my

door is slowly closing and a new journey is

about to begin. I am excited to see what doors

the lord will open for me.

Oklahoma FFA members, it would be

an honor for me to be able to wear the blue

corduroy jacket for one more year and to be

able to serve the Oklahoma FFA.

Sincerely,

Jake Landrum

“Sometimes we only see how people are different from us.

But if you look hard enough you can see how much we’re

all alike.”

This quote is from my favorite Disney movie,

Aladdin. It wasn’t until I became an 8th grader that I

actually paid attention to the message it conveys. While

today’s society infers that we as individuals need to be

something that we are not to “fit in”, I believe that each

person is made to be different. Being Native American,

growing up it was a daily occurrence to be asked, “Why

don’t you look like your parents?” It never really clicked in

my head that I was “different” from my parents. After

school, sometimes I would run to my dad and ask, “Why

don’t I look like you or mom?” The reply I always got from

my dad is that “God made you just like he wanted you to

be.”

In life we tend to draw opinions about others

without knowing his or her story. What I’ve learned over

the past 5 years being part of the FFA is that everyone dares

to be different. The members of this organization want to

be the ones to make a difference in this broken world we

live in. We all have taken different roads to get where we

are today, there still remains one common fact between the

members of the FFA. We are one organization that wants to

change the world.

It would be an honor to help Oklahoma FFA

members change the world for one more year as your 2019-

2019 State FFA Reporter.

Sincerely,

Bailey Nunn

calf operation. I have showed swine since my 8th grade year

in FFA. I started my stocker calf operation with one steer

and have since purchased four more to grow my SAE.

Future Plans Upon Graduation, I plan to attend Oklahoma State

University majoring in Agricultural Education. During my

second year of college, I will enlist into the National Guard

and join the OSU ROTC. Once I have obtained my

bachelor’s degree, I will be returning back to rural

Oklahoma to start a career as an Agricultural Education

Instructor.

“There is nothing noble in being superior to

your fellow man; true nobility is being superior

to your former self.”

- Ernest Hemingway

Seth Martin was my role model. He competed

in opening and closing ceremonies, speech

contests, and showed pigs. These were his

passions and skills he worked to improve. He

said, “Today, be the best you that you can be.”

He lived a life focused on self-improvement.

Every time I zip up my FFA jacket, I think of

Seth’s words. They motivate me to be better

every time I put it on. FFA has taught me to be a

leader who encourages others; whether it is a

scared eighth grade FFA member or a senior

hanging up his/her jacket for the last time.

The Oklahoma FFA Association is my blue

and gold family. I was overwhelmed by everyone

Seth impacted, who honored him by proudly

wearing the FFA official dress, when we gathered

to pay our last respects to Seth Martin.

My passion is to make that same impact by

serving as your next State FFA Reporter and to

spread the message, “Today, be the best you that

you can be.”

Tyler Wilkinson
