UMCOR Special Offering March 21st & 22nd

For more than 75 years, The United Methodist Com-mittee on Relief has provided disaster relief, often long after others have left the scene. UMCOR has aided ref-ugees and confronted the crippling challenges of world hunger and poverty. The examples are many — help-ing rebuild after hurricanes in the U.S., Bahamas, etc.; offering assistance after mudslides in Sierra Leone; and continuing to help survivors of floods and other natural disasters.

However, UMCOR simply cannot do it with-out us. Unlike other benevolent causes, UMCOR re-ceives no funds from the regular United Methodist Church budget. Our generous gifts help cover the agen-cy’s administrative costs so UMCOR can continue to guarantee that 100 percent of all designated donations go toward the specific relief projects.

We cannot all be present when disaster strikes. Howev-er, on March 21st & 22nd, we will equip others to go in our place. UMCOR Sunday allows The United Methodist Church to respond when disaster strikes. Think of UMCOR as our “Go Team” who can be pre-sent when help is needed.

Our congregation will join thousands of others across the United States by participating in the United Meth-odist church-wide special Sunday with an offering. Together, we will help fund the critical disaster-relief efforts of the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

As we near the end of the construction of our Educa-tion Building, the pastor will offer a new Sunday School Class. We are hoping that we can attract some of our younger people, but it is in no way limited by age. The Class is called “Life Perspective.” Each of us looks at the world through a different lens. But God wants His children to see His world through His eyes. This class will help each person to come to a fuller un-derstanding of 1.) Who God Is, 2.) Who Jesus is, and 3.) Who the Holy Spirit is. We will look in great detail about each of these per-sons. Many of us have never been taught these things. I believe the more you learn about who God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are, the more you will love and appreci-ate them. It will help you to know why we believe what we believe. We hope this will also be the oppor-tunity to ask questions and enter into dialogue with one another. This class will be offered the first week the Education Building is open. Watch for dates and times.

DAY TRIP TO THE SIGHT & SOUND THEATRE for the Tues-day, April 7th showing of Esther. See the sign up sheet in the sanctu-ary if interested or contact the of-fice.

THE PASTOR WRITES Dear Ones, Although it was wonderful to spend time with our family in Arizona, it was a joy to return home. Judi and I missed all of you! You are all a source of joy, love and comfort to us. Now we are entering into a very holy season in the Church. Ash Wednesday began on February 26th and we are now into our first week of Lent. Lent is a time that we are to examine our relationship with God and let Him make any corrections that need to be made in our spiritual lives. It is a forty day period of repent-ance and renewal preceding Easter. I will be preaching from the book of Numbers that will help us to understand what it means to live a holy life in the presence of a Holy God. Each week I will add one principle from the book of Numbers that will help us understand how to live a holy life. The Israelites were taught by God how to be a holy people so that they could dwell with a Holy God. We must never forget that God is preparing us for our “promised land” which is our eternal home in heaven. In heaven we are going to live in the presence of a Holy God, therefore God wants to teach us what that holiness looks like. Last week we learned our first step into holiness includes being willing to stand up and be counted. Are we willing to say to God, “You can count on me to offer my resources and my spiritu-al gifts for your glorious Church?” This is a step that God wants all of His children to take. I hope to see all of you each Sunday of Lent as we grow together in holiness. In His service and yours, Pastor Frank Sermons In March March 1: What Is At the Center of Your Life? If you or someone you know would be interested in any of these positions, please have them send their resume to [email protected] or contact the office for more information: 724-238-2627. Thank you!

Office space for rent beginning May 1st! The office space currently being used by the of-fice staff above Connections Café (109 S Mar-ket St.) will be available for rent May 1st. If you or someone you know is interested, please con-tact the office for more information. Dear Church Family, My family and I want to thank everyone for all their support and outpouring of love and prayers during our great-grandson’s (Brooks) difficult journey with infantile botulism. Brooks will need a few months of PT/OT to catch him up, but that is nothing this little warrior can’t handle after what he has gone through. God is good.

Fred & Shirley Nipps Hi Friends! An opportunity fell into my lap recently to serve with Bahamas Methodist Habi-tat this Spr ing. I will be flying out of Pittsburgh on March 9th and returning on March 20th. Most peo-ple laugh when I mention a mission trip to the Bahamas, because we associate the Bahamas with palm trees and crystal-clear water. The truth is there is quite a bit of poverty once you leave the tourist areas. In the after-math of hurricane Dorian there is much to be done.

I have served with Bahamas Methodist Habitat three times before this. While I’m not sure what tasks I’ll be assigned to during my time there, I know that God will find opportunities and will do powerful things. I would appreciate your prayers leading up to, and during my trip, specifically for the staff at Bahamas Methodist Habitat, and the families they are working with. I recently became more aware of the recovery efforts taking place in the Bahamas. The amount of work to be done contrasted against the resources available is overwhelming. If you are interested in financially supporting this trip (no pressure), here are a few options. Through God’s provision I was put in contact with a family who wanted to pay for the plane tickets, so the only major expenses I will have are traveling mission insurance and food (which is more expensive because it has to be flown in or brought to the island by boat). This should be around $300. I am hoping that I will find support above and beyond that, and be able to donate extra money to Bahamas Methodist Habitats disaster relief efforts. If you would prefer, instead of a financial donation, you can search for the Bahamas Methodist Habitat wishlist on Amazon.com and purchase something there, which will be shipped directly to the facility. If you choose to go this route, please email [email protected] with shipping details so that arrangements can be made to pick up your donation at the airport.

Thank you for your prayers and support, Sara Hilf [email protected]

Circle #1 would like to thank all those who brought in donations for the Union Mission. The men were very grateful.

Cub Scout Pack 370 recently honored our community first responders with a dinner and hand made plaques to thank them for their service. Heritage is Pack 370’s charter-ing organization and Henry Fisher is a scout with Pack 370.
