Vector Aerospace – sponsored student nominee wins Air League trophy Vector’s commitment to investing in new talent received a boost last month when Graham Bendall, the company’s 2013 Air League engineering scholarship sponsored nominee, was announced the winner of the inaugural Airbus Helicopters Rotary Wing Trophy. Graham was the recipient of one of four inaugural Bristow NPPL(A) flying scholarships in 2013, undertaking his flight training in the UK and the USA.

The Air League’s annual reception at St. James’s Palace hosted the presentation, which has historically lacked an award for rotary flying despite the fact that the association’s patron - His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh - has been keen to see these skills recognized. Consequently Airbus Helicopters took the decision to sponsor a rotary wing element in the association’s award program.

“He was undoubtedly the best of the four candidates,” said Andrew Brookes Director of the Air League. “As with any award, judging is subjective but Graham was simply a tremendous candidate; a great leader and an all-round good guy.”

The judges attributed Graham’s victory to his receipt of the Vector Aerospace engineering scholarship in conjunction with a number of other factors including his outstanding contribution to the Air League, his performance on the Bristow flying scholarship and his academic work at Liverpool University.

“I am so pleased that Graham proved successful,” said Michael Tyrrell, Managing Director for Vector - UK. “He is the latest of a series of students who have, for more than half a decade, enjoyed a one-week placement scheme at Vector as part of our long-term commitment to innovation, thought-leadership and engineering excellence.”

“The aim of the program is to encourage young individuals aspiring to break into the aerospace industry and provide them with some experience of working within a highly-skilled, professional and successful environment. I wish Graham every success in the future.”
