Dear fellow GLTA players and friends:

Welcome to the 2012 Canadian Gay Open (CGO) Tennis Tournament and to Toronto; the largest city in Canada and the fifth largest in North America, making this thriving multi-cultural city a venue not to be missed.

We are thrilled to hold this 19th annual GLTA-sanctioned tournament at the Mayfair Clubs once again. We pride ourselves on our hospitality and have been working tirelessly to make sure everyone has a great experience. The CGO is more than just a tennis competition. It’s about lifelong friendships, unexpected romances, and cultivating a global network with a unifying passion: Tennis.

This year, in addition to the Draw Party held at The Vic Pub on Friday and the banquet held at the 519 Community Center on Sunday, we have added an official closing party held at The Vic Pub after the banquet. We have extended an invitation for the Jocks’ Spring Fling Party to the entire Toronto Lesbian and Gay Tennis Association (TLGTA) and multiple other gay sports leagues in Toronto. Make sure you come and join the party.

Whether this is your first CGO Tennis Tournament or your 19th, it is our mission to make the 2012 tournament a truly memorable experience. We want to thank all our volunteers, sponsors, and competitors coming from across Canada, the U.S., Europe and Japan for helping us to make CGO as fun as possible. Tennis Canada is proud to be a major supporter of your event and we congratulate you for building it into one of the largest amateur events in this country. It is events such as yours that truly celebrate our sport. This summer promises to be filled with excitement and incredible tennis as the stars of the ATP World Tour return to Toronto for nine thrilling days of action at the 2012 Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. Defending champion Novak Djokovic will be back to do battle for the crown with other former winners Roger Federer (2004, 2006), Rafael Nadal (2005, 2008), Andy Murray (2009, 2010) and Andy Roddick (2003). The tournament is taking great strides towards enhancing the on-site fan experience making this Masters 1000 event a can’t-miss ticket on your summer schedule. Please join us as the men storm the Rexall Centre from August 4-12, 2012 to witness first-hand the incomparable athleticism and electricity that captivates crowds around the world. Dear Canadian Gay Open Tennis Tournament Participants and Staff, Hearing Every Youth though Youth is very excited that you have chosen our charitable organization to receive your support this year. H.E.Y.Y. wishes you the best of luck, as well as a fun and safe tournament. The H.E.Y.Y Line was created in 1996 by a group of youth who saw a need for a confidential, non-judgmental peer-to-peer support and referral service, dedicated to empowering youth. Every year participants go through a 12 week training process where they are educated about social and personal issues that concern youth, as well as develop their counseling, leadership, communication and team building skills. The role of a H.E.Y.Y. Line volunteer is to provide a listening ear for everyone, to remind those in need that they are never alone, and help callers to discuss their own solutions and options instead of giving advice. Youth are also invited to join the Youth Planning Action Committee (Y.P.A.C.); the public face and voice of H.E.Y.Y., where we encourage further skills development in areas of writing grant proposals, organizing fundraisers, outreach, screening applicants and creating workshops. As of 2012 the H.E.Y.Y. Line has trained over 1000 youth who continue to volunteer on the line and/or within the organization for several years. Our volunteers also use their training to further their education and find employment in both local and International environments. The financial support we will receive from the CGO event will help us to continue and develop further outreach initiatives, as well as maintain our website, chat room, discussion forum and TTY Line. Tournament Rules & Information

1. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled match time and check in with the tournament desk. They will inform you if play is on time or if there is a queue

2. Once your scheduled match time arrives, please stay within earshot of the tournament desk. It is your responsibility to stay close to the tournament desk. DO NOT expect volunteer to walk around the club looking for you

3. If your name is called for play, a reasonable time will be allowed for you to show up at the desk before penalties occur

4. Match penalties and defaults:

• Up to 5 minutes - loss of toss and one game

• 5 -10 minutes - loss of toss and two games

• 10 - 15 minutes - loss of toss and three games

• After 15 minutes - default

Split Divisions

1. Two different sites will be used for matches on the first day of the tournament, Saturday May 19th: Mayfair West and Mayfair Parkway

2. The CGO committee will attempt to schedule more time between singles and doubles matches for players who are registered in split divisions. However, this may not always be possible

3. Please keep in mind that it will be your responsibility to travel from one site to another in time for your matches

Match Play

1. In consideration of our very tight schedule, please allow only 5 MINUTES FOR WARM UP. This will be strictly enforced.

2. Rest breaks: 20 seconds between points (not counting tracking down balls; 90 seconds on changeovers; 2 minutes between sets.

3. If you have any questions regarding rules, please check with the tournament desk
