Campus Initiative Timeline
Activity and time Description
Team Building Phase (varies) Build Happiness team. This can consist of students
(including existing clubs/groups), faculty, and
staff/administration. A mix of students and faculty is strongly
encouraged.
Planning Phase (varies) Team decides scope of project, goals and time line, roles
and responsibilities.
Promotion Phase (two weeks-
2 months, after planning
phase)
Promote and market the Happiness initiative through social
media. Allow your team to expand during this phase and
reassess your scope if need be. Download and use the
Outreach Suggestions resource in addition to the teams
own approaches.
Focused Survey Phase (two
weeks, after promotional
phase)
Two weeks of focused activity to get as many people as
possible to take the survey. Survey also remains online
indefinitely, and data is taken on an annual or other basis. If
the school provides the resources to conduct a
representative survey, the focused survey phase is a good
time to do this.
Objective Indicators Planning
Phase (2 weeks 2 months,
after planning phase)
Identify your campus objective indicators. If you can access
your campuses existing sustainability indicators, you can use
them and/or add your own. HI will provide a suggested set of
indicators in the toolkit. The objective indicators show abalanced picture when paired with the survey results.
Data Analysis Phase (2
weeks, after Focused Survey
Phase)
Gather survey and objective indicator data and analyze data
from the survey. We provide you basic data. To ensure the
protection of personal data, we do not provide you raw data
but if someone on the team or on campus is a qualified
researcher, such as a faculty member, and agrees to sign
the confidentiality form, we can provide raw data. We also
provide data analysis services.
Happiness Report Phase
(after focused survey and
objective indicator datagathering phases)
Once the data is analyzed, the team meets to discuss the
results, content, focus and recommendations for the report.
The report can then be written, reviewed and issued. Itshould be issued to the school paper, different groups, clubs,
academic chairs and the administration.
Community forum phase (1
week-1 month- after the report
is issued)
Happiness team members can conduct community forums to
present results, having conversations about happiness;
asking What are you doing to be happy? What do you
want to do? and What do you want to see done here on
campus? This can be done as a large community meeting

or small focus groups. It can be done in different dorms in the
library, classroom or other reserved space.
Action Phase (2 weeks-6
months after the communityform phase)
People, formal and informal groups conduct projects to
increase the wellbeing of the campus based on the surveydata, and feedback from the forums. Actions can be small or
large. Small projects may develop into larger projects or be
further developments of programs already in place. The
people conducting the project are encouraged to write small
reports describing the project and how it links to the survey
and objective indicators data. At a minimum, this information
should be communicated to happycounts.org
Campus Report (1 week- 1
month- after happy project
phase)
Campus feedback from the forum and the descriptions of the
projects and actions is gathered for campus report. The
team meets again to discuss the content, priorities and next
iteration of the campus happiness initiative. Again, this
report should be shared widely within the campus to informand invoke discussion. A copy also to be sent to
happycounts.org
